- Here is the original Broadway cast of Little Shop of Horrors performing a medley of the title song and "Suddenly, Seymour" during the NBC broadcast of the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, telecast on November 27, 2003.
The cast members included in the performance are Trisha Jeffrey as Crystal, Carla J. Hargrove as Ronnette, and DeQuina Moore as Chiffon, Kerry Butler as Audrey, and Hunter Foster as Seymour.
As with all NBC transmissions of the annual parade, this performance was pre-recorded and lipsynced by the cast due to technical and logistical limitations of the broadcast. - Zábava

and regina’s mom/ms. norbury/cady’s mom in mean girls!
She has done soooo many shows!!! Beauty and the beast, Bat boy, Hairspray, LSP, Xanadu, Rock of Ages, Catch me if you can, Disaster, Mean Girls and Beetlejuice. And she originated like 8/10 of those roles.

Kerry was so beautiful with a gorgeous and pretty voice in this performance. I absolutely love everything about Kerry in this performance.

Apparently, before the Maitlands moved into the house, while Adam was working in the hardware, Barbara had a career on Broadway as Audrey and Penny.

And Clio in Xanadu (Tony nominated for that one) and Brenda in Catch Me If You Can and Sherry in Rock of Ages and Mrs. Norbury in Mean Girls and Marianne in Disaster! and Mabel in The Best Man and Miss Jones in Blood Brothers and Shelly in Bat Boy and even Hilary Clinton (the last two were off-Broadway but close enough).
Kerry Butler and Hunter Foster were perfectly cast in this.

Kerry has a more...."generic Broadway voice" compared to Ellen Greene, she's not BAD per se but just.... lacking the personality that I think most people associate with Audrey. It's kinda unfair but what can you do?
Hunter Foster sounds great here though
@@HeyItsSarah30 I don't think anyone in 2003 was ready to accept anyone but Ellen as Audrey. But here's the thing: Kerry never actually tried to be Ellen. Her version of Audrey was completely her own, and was perfectly valid (I thought), and those naysayers who kept comparing her to Ellen were missing out on something new and unique because it didn't match their 20-year-old memories.
The puppeteer for Audrey 2 seemed to be having the time of his life out there, not having to lip-sync the puppet to anything

My highschool did this and it was great. I played Mushnik my friend Michael played Seymour and we were both laughing and crying at the end because it was our last play together because it was our Senior year and we went out with a bang. The Bang meaning being eaten by a plant. Now when we joke around he calls me Mushnik as I call him Krelborn

It's cool, you three. Personally, as one who's been a devoted fan of Kerry's since the Macy's Parade the year before this one (when she performed as Penny with the Hairspray cast and I fell immediately under the spell of that voice), it warms my little wooden heart to see Kerry gaining a whole new generation of fans thanks to Beetlejuice. I've also had the pleasure of meeting Kerry three times, and I can assure you she is appreciative of and grateful to all her fans, whether we boarded the wagon during Blood Brothers '93 (her Broadway debut), Beetlejuice '19, or anything she's done in between.

no idea. it doesn't make sense. couldn't they do Feed Me or Lean Green Mother or Suppertime? I want the plant, not the humans. they are all plant food anyway
Mean Green Mother isn't in the stage show. As for the other two, they are pretty static and 'Suppertime' is pretty dark, in content for a happy Thanksgiving broadcast - not only is that not going to sell the show well to a broad audience, it's also a number that will not work very well in broad daylight outside of Macy's. It's better for a show, in terms of advertising to do something up beat and with some movement - the title song does that well and then you can segue into something a little more static such as 'Suddenly Seymour' partly because the song is fairly well known. I think the title song into 'Skid Row' would have been better personally but again the lyrical content isn;t very optimistic for Thanksgiving. Having the plant in the background is purely to give a flavour of the show as a whole, you need to think of this as a trailer of sorts.

1) Mean Green Mother isn’t in the musical. Only the movie
2)Even though the plant isn’t talking here they want people to come see the show! Shows perform on Good Morning America, Macy’s Parade, And other stations/events for publicity. Audrey 2 (the plant) is the main character/entire plot of Little Shop Of Horrors so they put it in instead of just random actors singing which wouldn’t really makes sense

I remeber that a few of my Schoolmates and I were going to do this, I was asked to play Audrey. I even tried to pull-off the high, squeaky voice she had.
Who would win? Barbara and Adam (beetlejuice), brad and janet (Rocky horror picture show), or Audrey and Seymour (well, little shop of horrors of course) all 3 very wholesome couples from musicals are faced with a person or thing not of this world and it ends up changing their lives or (afterlives) forever. Pick your fighters
Audrey and seymour, they faced an evil plant and lived to tell the tale(well not in the original version but you get the idea)
I mean, as much as I'd like to root for either of Kerry's character pairings to win this, Audrey and Seymour die at the end of Little Shop of Horrors (along with, presumably, the human race), and - SPOILER ALERT - Barbara and Adam die at the beginning of Beetlejuice! So I think I'll have to hand this one to Janet and Brad, the last two standing at the end of their show.

@@chvrlotte1342 I know but they normally don't for the Broadway performances and I've sang, quite effortlessly, in the freezing cold as well. Sure you might need more warm ups but I think they would take the time for that

Why are the thanksgiving parades always lip synced?
I think because there are just too many factors at play -- the choreography, the cold, the audience, the time of day, the technical challenges of micing performers for a live outdoor performance for TV -- it's just just easier and more practical to have the performers lipsync.
I was in a thanksgiving parade a couple of years ago and my school and a bunch of other schools got to sing a couple of songs in it along with a bunch of other schools. They played some other kids singing In the background on loudspeakers and on tv it was just the other kids recordings. I don’t get why we were there then.

Sarah Reichard No, the setting was made to be in the dingy area of downtown. The urchins (the trio in skirts) are costumed in a urban downtown fashion while Audrey's character use to be a frisky lifetsyle working in the "gutter" therefore she usually wears old tacky tight dresses and cheetah print. Seymour usually wears slacks and a dingy button down shirt (he's a poor nerdy fellow)
