Audrey running towards Audrey 2 is very unfortunate foreshadowing as even when faced with danger, she falls so easily into the trap of watering them… Audrey’s mental state is so far gone she didn’t need any further push

The incredibly sad thing about Audrey’s dream is that a house like that became possible to own back then but even now 60 years on, getting a house, mortgage etc is incredibly difficult (going by the films timeline of 1961, not the actual release in 1986)

This version of the song is basically what sells the original/“bad” ending. Seymour is on the very cusp of confronting the plant but utterly collapses and backpedals at the idea of losing Audrey. At that point he becomes both tragic and irredeemable, making the “everybody dies” ending the only logical one.

I have seen this new girl singing this part (didn't bother to find her name), and it upset me sooo much that she basically played it like she was SETTLING for Seymore! That isn't the point of the song! 🤦 It has no emotional impact at all, if it isn't her genuine realization that he had always been there for her and that she had always cared about him, too.

Total devotion to Audrey on Seymour's part, one could say dog-like, I do not mean it as an insult.

There is the ability to sing in character and then there is *this*

I love how, at 1:16, you can just barely hear Menken whispering the commands after Audrey II says them. "Save ya skin boy... Save ya hide... See tomorrow... Step aside!" It's such a cool effect that I wish was kept for the film, or even just louder in this version!

Can anyone tell me what the little three-note section at 2:28 is from/similar to? It sounds super familiar to me yet I can place it, like a 60s song or something

Ellen Greene is so fabulous! She still has a rockin' voice!

I still get chills when I hear Ellen Greene sing this song. Even though the song is very campy, you feel genuine emotion in her voice. It is amazing!

I love the trio on the balcony, their names are Crystal, Ronnette, and Chiffon. I'm assuming this is a tribute to three of the major girl singing groups. The Crystals, Ronnettes and The Chiffons.

Imagine how much of this movie we’ve lost over the production, and it’s still a great movie shame we lost so many scenes though

Ellen is so amazing, so perfect and so real. The contrast of funny lyrics and her complete sincerity make this the ultimate in heart wrenching Broadway songs. You can't help but be in awe as she takes the audience through all the different emotions and then as if by magic, it's suddenly not about irony or laughs, she's telling us here deepest dreams and the tragedy that they haven't and won't come true. The silence in the crowd is almost chilling as she sings the last of the song. Honestly, one of the best scenes ever on Broadway. Ellen is a miracle.

Ok so yeah we're all amazed that she still sings amazingly but for me I'm amazed she sings amazingly while doing this insane voice the whole show (she doesn't sound like that in real life)!!!

Jake is great here… but Ellen is SENSATIONAL. If a role ever belonged to anyone…. Audrey belongs to her… Damn!

Honestly I do wish they kept this whole thing, dream sequence and all. It's a bit weird tonally but like that section feels like a fever dream in the music too and it's clear he's spiraling so like why not?
