Did you look at the basements? The best time to house hunt is AFTER the spring melts, when all the water has shifted around. Then you go down to the basement to see if there are leaks or cracks in the foundation. You also have to ask questions about drainage, the wiring, the plumbing....are there warranties? What company built the house, if it's new, will they come back over the next year to do the little repairs that are needed when the house begins to settle. And the air conditioning, the heating...
Hey Mikey: Such good news! I watch you for a number of reasons. I live in Toronto that happens to have more Chinese individuals than Vancouver could ever wish for. With a myriad if Chinese restaurants, what I learn from you enables me to eat and shop with some authority. I enjoy all the cuisines of China plus, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. I can even make my own Chinese meals with Ma Po Tofu being my latest accomplishment. You find unusual places with such delicious food. You show many different destinations. Above all, you are kind, funny, passionate, friendly, don't cuss and you appear a happy guy. Continued success in NY. I look forward to seeing it all.

That is a big house to live in by yourself. It's more suitable for a big family. Wink wink.
Similar time for me too. Owned houses all my adult life so far, lived in Kamloops BC (hot weather) for about 8 years til I was 33. Had to sell move temp into rental in Abbotsford BC (by vancouver) for 6 months then had to move to Edmonton Alberta (COLD SNOWING) because houses are cheaper, Been in a rental for 1yr . Now lease is up trying to see if I can buy a house again OR have to go rental hunting --Life is crazy!!
Good for you. I agree 100% there needs to be content that is positive for adults. There are some big channels that are positive that are family oriented but really the subscribers and the commenters are kids. A positive channel for adults is a great thing. Excited to see where this journey takes you and us.
Mom of 3 boys There's this little channel here on CZcams called Jas. Townsend and Son. They specialize in the 17th century, historical recipes and reenactments and such. It's one of the few channels on CZcams where the comments section is non-toxic and uplifting. The content is geared towards adults, and it's just really positive and such a joy to watch. If you're into historical stuff, you might want to check it out. :)

Hi Mikey, I was smiling when you were talking about life in the Bay Area. My family & I lived there for nearly 10 yrs. Our friends became our family there. So I was kind of depressed when we had to return to our motherland, Philippines, 7 yrs ago💕 I still miss the culture, the way of life, the fact that I could drive safely, the clean & green surroundings. That's why I watch vlogs, thanks for creating moments that remind us of the past, exciting things of the present & hopeful things in the future 😍😘

Still don't really understand Mike's reasons for moving back to NY. He mentioned a lot about being able to create good content and some tax incentive in NY. But it seems like this cannot be the main reasons. I'm not clear why better content can be created in NY vs SF and I doubt that the tax incentive is that big to make a large difference compared to the hassle of moving back. My random thoughts.
1. Buying a house usually means settling down. Perhaps there is a near future Mrs. Chen that Mike will be introducing to us soon? Maybe she had a say in the move.
2. Maybe Mike thought it was too expensive to live in the SF Bay Area. Buying even a semi-decent house in a decent area now is out of reach for most people unless you work in tech and are loaded with stock or stock options.
3. I think Mike's parents live in NY so they probably encouraged him to move back closer to them.
4. Since Mike lived in NY for awhile before (not sure how long), I'm sure there is sometimes a feeling of being homesick and wanting to go back to see familiar friends and family.
Anyways, Mike has his own good reasons for moving back. Just not sure the main reasons were stated in the video. Regardless, will still be following Mike's videos (especially strictly dumpling) since I consider him one of the best youtubers out there.
Seasons can be blessing in disguise. Always been living where we have some form of winter and it makes you love the summers, maybe even cherish life in unique ways you didn't know.
Sucks to see you leave the Bay Area so soon, Mikey. I was hoping I'd bump into you at one of the restaurants around here someday. :) But your presence here finally ended our drought, so thanks for that!! Good luck with your house hunting in NY and keep doing what you're doing.

My first thought was: So does this mean you're getting a real bed for your new house, no more air mattress?
It's going to be a big adjustment. Make sure the house you buy is a good investment, just in case you need to flip it. The cold is one thing, but it's the winter darkness which makes people change their minds about living in the Northeast. Good luck, and welcome back to NY, Mikey!

Mickey, do be cautious though, about the size of the house you buy. Bigger is not necessarily better! Bigger equals a LOT mores space to clean! If you will use the space and you don't mind cleaning - or if you can afford a cleaning service - then a big house is fine. But if you don't need the space and especially if you must clean yourself, then a big house can be a horrible burden!
Not meaning to be negative, but you do need to think your needs through cautiously!

Actually on a recent video titled Longest Starbucks Order on his TheCheNews channel, he states, "Our friend Dan... " and Jen laughs in agreement. 49 seconds into the video. Seems like they're still friends to me.
I don't think so =( In one of their videos on Double Chen (now Chen Dynasty) they announced that they were leaving Off The Great Wall due to indifferences (I think there was more) with the direction the channel was going, but somehow after Mike moved states Dan returned to OFTGW. Even the name of the Double Chen channel changed.
Hope everything works out with the move and the house purchase. We just saw you @ our go-to place for XLB in Fremont, California. Hope you liked it as much as we do. Looking forward to the video.

My family, fathers side are from Middletown / Scotchtown. Both my grandfather and great-grandfather had dairy farms there, maybe a mile apart. The road my grandfather's farm was on is named after my family. Blumel Road (technically Scotchtown). Woodstock the famous event was almost held on My GF's farm, (at that time sold to a developer) instead of the final choice of Bethel, NY. The Middletown people fought it coming there, my Grandmother was scared of it, so she was relieved. My Great-grandfather's farm was on Chrystal Run Road. this story goes back to the 60's and 70's.

Too deal with mosquito bites try taking Vitamins C and B12 for several days. They won't prevent bites, but they will heal faster and the itching will go away more quickly. During visits to Taiwan where the mosquitoes will bite you several times to find the juiciest and tenderest spots my bites would stop itching within a few hours and the bumps would be hardly noticeable the next day.
Too deal with cold weather on the east coast I suggest wearing an insulated vest under your jacket. You need to prioritize keeping your core heat in your torso warmest. Once that is taken care of your body will naturally release circulation to your extremities and they won't feel cold.
Upstate has nice places to visit. State parks, hiking trails, caves. Middletown has aloooooot of places to eat. Watch water run off when house is lower then land around. You will have a swamp in backyard

I moved from south Alabama to Portland, OR last June and it was my FIRST summer not getting bit by a mosquito either! I feel ya on that one!!
