Elektron 'thinking' has been blowing us away for the last 10+ yrs. My AR1 after 10 yrs is even more amazing after the last update in 2023 and how awesome is that ? Elektron is now all about 128 step sequencers, Stereo everything, Sampling on every device , better PC interface, and still about LIVE PERFORMANCE. I don't have a Digitakt MK1, but I will own a Digitakt MK2.... I am 100% all-in. I want to play the AR3 with my AR1. Thank you for this Sensei EZBOT.

@@EZBOT_ i just want to be able to route my 303 directly into the overdrive via the input processing. You can do it with every other effect Digitakt 2 has.
Seems like a super simple & easy to implement thing that Elektron is sleeping on. I know all the acid freaks out there would appreciate it.
As fpr the Godfather, I expect a video about Digitakt 3, 16 years later.
Obviously the DT OG was maxed out, and the DT2, with stereo sampling and big storage was needed. However, I think (or hope) the Syntakt has enough room under the hood to include bar looping, chorus, euclidean sequencer, even an arp generator. I'd be very pissed if a syntakt 2 came out 😂

Syntakt 2 will come out in like, 5-6 years, no time soon. Digitone 2 would be first if they're refreshing them all anyway!
@@hexwavemusic this is definitely needed. As a digitone owner my wishlist includes - doubled voice count, more algorithms, individual adsr envelopes for the fm operators, an offset so the envelope doesn't always start at zero (unless the atk is set to zero you always get pure unmoded carrier output at the start of the note), new filter types, more effects, the elektron master compressor and xy blend as LFO target.
Some of these, like the envelope offset and LFO to xy are so obvious and easy that they should be added to the current digitone.
I preordered mine last week and I’m so excited - I feel like this is all you need to make full length songs with the least amount of creative friction.

Received my Digitakt 2 today. I am so excited
I have never found watching someone read through an instruction manual so compelling before. Seriously. Because my DTII is in a delivery van about half a mile away and this will be me fumbling around sometime this evening 🤣 The first "torturous few hours" with a new bit of gear. And that's after you've spent at least an hour swearing while you try and sort the MIDI and I/O out.

I wouldn’t bet on this, but for Syntakt it’s different story, i believe we will see many sequencer features portes on Syntaky too.. also general menu structure and maybe things like new filters too (of course just digital filters)
I believe Elektron is far from being done with Syntakt updates.

Nice vid. Got a DT2 and all this because of you. Have 2 M8's and this way I found your channel. Always saw the Digis but was not sure about them. I first bought a DN, and a few days later a DT. What can i say.... I never had so much fun in making techno music. These machines are insane. Maby one day i will get the OT also. Keep up the great content.
THE DIGITAKT CONTINUES
It's interesting how the DT2 somehow rivals the ST as a synthesizer groovebox. It's a much more compartmentalized workflow (wavetable samples in slice machines vs Syntakt's more fluid synth machines), and perhaps the workflow will feel more like preset browsing, but there's no doubt that the DT2 is capable as a synth in ways the DT could never quite achieve: portamento, ADSR amp, 3 LFOs, more interesting filters. It might not approach things like SY Swarm for versatility and tweakability, but it's a very interesting concept. A sampler that's kind of like a synthesizer. 😊

I'm the newb that has only a few pieces of kit and doesn't know how to use any well enough to show yet.
Elektron, I only own the Model : Samples.
Otherwise I own only a Modal Cobalt 8, Meris Mercury7 Reverb, a Gretsch parlor guitar with pickup, ....and a SP 404 MK2 that I am offloading to a friend so I can pickup the Digi2? I'm very much attempting / learning to appreciate the workflow of Elektron gear and this is why I'm here.

I'm very confused Elektron didn't put these features on the Syntakt when they probably knew they'd do it on the DT2. Specifically 128 steps. That one feature immediately makes it less compatible with the DN and the ST. I just don't get that when the ST JUST came out.

I hope there is a way they patch it into the syntakt. If the page LEDs could for example change color when you are on the second set of pages

I had the Digitakt twice. My biggest reason for selling was it being too overwhelming. It seems Elektron tackled a few things that make the DTII easier in use. Combined with my iPad Mini (and now being able to midi learn and name CC's!) it could be a nice portable setup with endless fun.
Features I wanna see in DTII asap before I'm willing to put down the cash:
- Auto chopping and manually choose begin & end points with fades to prevent clicks. Don't understand why this isn't implemented already?
- Polyphony made easy. I really don't wanna overcomplicate it by using different tracks. It's cumbersome and makes little sense for a new device in 2024.

400mb memory is good, albeit still small for 2024… but I still prefer 85mb of memory with direct streaming from a CF card.
I’m pleasantry surprised how much OT still trumps the DT2 in certain areas. Sure, the extra sequencer resolution is sweet, you can do a lot without changing pattern on the DT2 now, yet OT+DT2 surprisingly still serve two unique purposes.
How does Perform Kit work if you switch to a second pattern but the second pattern has some of the same kit sounds as the first and some different sounds? Like if Track 5 was a cowbell on Pattern 1 with no trigs set, but on Pattern 2 it's a bass stab that does have trigs set -- if you enable Perform Kit on Pattern 1 and then switch to Pattern 2 what happens? Would the bass stab trigs play using the cowbell sound?
The original DT had a massive update when they implemented the different machines for sampling.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that maxed out its hardware capabilities.
I’ve got the original DT and am quite happy with it, no rush to upgrade.
What different machines for sampling? The did an update for sample playback (slicing, etc.) but this were no deep code upgrades as this was already possible before (start position, LFO assignement)
@@el_dani - sorry, playback. But that was a decent upgrade.
Of course it was possible before using workarounds, but people wanted easy slicing etc and they delivered.

I get stems and slices on Koala Sampler on my phone and sample them into the Digitakt.
@@EZBOT_ how viable do you think saving startpoint/endpoint "chops" as presets from stretch/repitch machines and then performing them via the new Trig Preset Pool mode is? Seems to me a much better workflow for slicing on the digitakt than on mkI - still a bit cumbersome, but you can at least perform chops into your track's sequence with that new Trig mode

How do you set up Digitakt to record cords from a midi controller? As I understand it you can only have one note per channel.

One thing I’m most curious about, is how it works to have multiple presets loaded on a single track. As in, can this be a workaround for the lack of slicing, by having multiple instances of the same sound with different start points?
Not sure if this helps but I’ve always used parameter locks for start points. You’re never restricted to pre-made chops. Takes more work but it’s more creative.
I’m thinking the same thing; you can perform them in with the Preset Trig mode. If you save the presets from a stretch or repitch machine they should adjust with your tempo too, right?

actually i wouldn’t be that surprised if we see in next few months major Syntak UI update to match general
layout with Digitakt 2 firmware.. from the developement standpoint it is much better to have same UI codebase across multiple devices..
Again i do not mean features matching - that wouldn’t make sense cause they are very different mchines - but general UI layouy and structure ..
i REEEEEEEALLy hope a firmware update comes out that allows live sampling direct to a trig without needing to sample > save > name etc.
i love my octatrack but the form factor is so much nicer
Im pretty sure there arent any ts split patch cables in Iceland. There is not a single eurorack module in stores in Iceland.

I'm still trying to see passed the lack of polyphony per track. They upgraded everything I would have hoped bar a few things. It's still an absolute beast!
This was as good a demo as I knew it would be from Matthew. Do I want one? Damn right as they er, say in the US. But.. Overbridge is a big thing for me - being able to have my Syntakt multi-channel into Logic then automate pretty much ever parameter is massively important to me, as is song mode. I actually had the original Digitakt + Digitone + Analog Four back in 2018 but Overbridge really wasn't fit for purpose then & no song mode on the DTK or DGT. Sold all three. Anyway, so.. I'll probably hang on until the DII is up to speed with OB before having to selling the wife & kids for scientific experiments to get the money (bugger! I'm not married..)

Ask your Elektron homies what kind of updates we can expect for the Syntakt. That bad boy’s got plenty of room left for growth. With the timing of its release against the DG2 it feels like it should be more comparable.
The sound 45:09 at the 44 minute is very Noise Engineering
I wish they'd add a full platter of fx to all the machines. Distortion, chorus, flange, delay, comb, reverb, reverse reverb, etc.
Is there a way to use an LFO on a delay (on any of the machines) to perhaps turn it into a flanger? At least OT has a good selection of fx, but it would be nice per-track within the others.
syntakt can route lfo to fx parameters. never tried turning the delay into a flanger tho! I'll get to it asap :)

I think its an amazing standalone sampler now for making music, also capable of synthesis. Overbridge support is still waiting (They will release it) after that it is an amazing device if you want only one groowbox and like sampling.

How do you feel about that AI can generate what you been making for 3 hours in seconds, I think the future is brutal for us, only live music have chance to survive and people bonding and connecting their souls. Rest of the music will be mass generated based on data what average person likes to listen to. Most people will not give a “F” how it was made.
Btw. The digitak 2 sims like fun and maybe this is what matters

Mass people dont care how music was done today either nor for quality. People who actually like music care. AI can do impressive art but it isnt replacing human made art either.
There definitely will be oversaturation of AI made songs by people who dont understand music, but it wont kill being a musician.

“Best sampler” …still doesn’t slice or time stretch in any sort of acceptable manner for a sampler in 2024. I’ve said this many times, awesome device and it’s a huge update, yet still a crippled device. No excuse for this thing to not allow for choosing each slice point. Roland on the other hand is just jamming the SP full of new features with each update, albeit a ridiculous workflow.
All that storage and no multi-sampling capability or higher polyphony. That breaks the deal for me.

@EZBOT_ I stand by what you said too 🤣 I've been on the fence about what box I want to go with my OT. I think the DTII will FINALLY replace my Electribe 2 Sampler. Paraphony is the only thing left that the Electribe has that the Digitakt doesn't. I don't even want full-blown polyphony. One filter and amp works great. It's how the E2 is, and it grew on me.
Digitakt II is good.
Sadly it has done the greatest injustice to the original Digitakt unless they update the same.
In fact even the syntakt May take a beating.
The best brains of Elektron have left and it’s now confirmed that Elektron can only do updates on existing hardware and call it MK II

As much as I'd like that, to go with my MD, it doesnt make much sense from a branding point of view. Both machines are utterly iconic, growing in value all the time and lend Elektron a ton of credibility. If they make them easily available, they lose a lot of that kudos. Also, there are people who enjoy having something special that's not for all and sundry, and want that unique sound to remain special. You probably lose those people.
They also release what is in fact dated hardware onto the market in 2024. Despite the fact that they can still do things other boxes can't, they do also have some shortcomings due to their age. And guess what the internet would magnify? That's even if the parts and expertise to remake them exists, which is contested.
Lastly, how big is the market for new MM and MD? A niche product for Elektron, who are pretty niche, in an already fairly niche space. is the money really there for them to justify the investment? They'd have to be cheaper than the used market. It also follows that the vintage boxes nosedive in value which pisses off their most passionate supporters.
How much cheaper do you really think it would be than a vintage model?
No, they are doing the right thing. People need to save up if they really want them.

It’s not a synth or sampler instrument, it’s a computer, just get a MacBook Air and a DAW save your money folks. This is garbage, the workflow of their devices is the worst ever. There’s no immediate gratification if you’re a musician. The slightest thing has to be done through menu diving. Don’t listen to these wanna be monetizers elitist YT wanna be.s

You are telling me starting up a pc, starting up a DAW, loading in tracks, loading in vsts, opening said vst windows to adjust parameters, load effects, open effects windows to adjust parameters is less menu divey?
Some people dont like DAWs and for some people hardware is easier to getting more creative. For some people it isnt about the money either.
