    What a great video! When I was a child, my Grandmother always purchased chicken canned in a glass jar at Woodward's Department store. She used it to make my delicious sandwiches for my school lunch... But, once Woodward's closed down I never saw chicken for sale in glass jars again. In fact for many years I have never seen canned chicken for sale at all... Now I am thinking of making some and just bought a small pressure canner. Canned chicken is marvellous! I am 74 years old and just getting back into canning...

    I made my first batch - 8 pints - yesterday in my new Instant Pot Max. Today I made a big batch of homemade noodles. I emptied a jar of chicken, it’s broth plus some extra, a couple of sliced carrots, half of a small onion, a rib sliced celery, cooked gently until the veggies were done, then added my homemade noodles. When they were cooked, I added some frozen baby peas (they keep their color that way), and we had the best chicken noodle dinner I have ever made! I sent Hubs to my 92 year old friend’s house with a pint of this goodness so she can have some after chemo tomorrow. This is beautiful chicken that

      K Flan, oh. So you didn’t add the noodles to the canning jar? CAN you add them to the canning jars as a pre made soup? And how do you prepare to dehydrate noodles? Are you talking about dehydrated zoodles or boiled pasta?

      @kflan3342 Před 5 lety +3

      So I use squash quite a bit in soups. Especially Mexican Chicken Soup. When I canned the soup with squash they became VERY soft. So I can the soup with what holds up best texturally. So I became an 'equal opportunity food preserver'. I can, dehydrate, freeze and ferment. When I want to eat a soup which needs additional ingredients I bring to a simmer and add in more delicate veggies. Squash or cabbage for example. This week I used fresh zucchini noodles. As my squash and cabbage are producing I noodle (squash) or shred (cabbage) and dehydrate them. When I want to make soup when my garden is not producing I add dehydrated produce to my soups. They absorb the broth and flavor. They will not be the same as fresh zucchini noodles but close.

    I can "ugly chicken" all the time. It's AWESOME and so flexible. Chicken salad, chicken pot pie, chicken & noodles, chicken & dumplings, chicken casseroles, chicken soft tacos, chicken enchiiladas, and on and on and on. EXCELLENT video for someone who hasn't done this before!

    Looks delicious 😋. My mom and grandma used to pressure cook beef and it was the best. Too bad you can't make this in an electric pressure cooker but I read your reply to someone else about that. I'm a bit scared of this type but plan to research more. This intrigues me.

    I can chicken, bbq pork and roast beef, chilli, tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, salsa, pinto beans, pickles, sweet potatoes, beef stew....some foods I water bath...low acidic foods I pressure can. I can't keep enough jars lids bands etc. We love to eat what we have canned and is good to know I have things on hand in case of power outage or a snow storm etc.

      Jennifer Showalter. I saw another canner that said she removes her rings after 48 hours. That way if they pop open you know it right away. If you still have the ring on it can seal back. But at that point it has gone bad.

    Great job, lady! And amen about the canned chicken and the way some people eat with their eyes. I am reminded of the reaction some people have about herbal concoctions that would absolutely improve their health, if they could just get past the “awful taste”!! You made a very informative video and I thank you because I am just learning to can with the Presto 16 qt. I live in a small rv and no room to use larger one or store many canned goods. I can for one so I use 1/2 pint jars and my first batch of grassfed beef and duck breast worked so well today!! How exciting! Thank you again. Namaste’
