    Thanks for sharing this video. Something you might consider to work in tandem with your foot pump is using a Coleman 5 gal jug with spigot on your counter top. The jug can be placed on a 6-12 inch support to allow faster filling into coffee pots or pans for heating water etc. . (Place jug on floor when travelling.) The foot pump can be used when only a splash is needed to reduce water use and limit the gray water as well.

    The foot pump does the job, but I think having the automatic pump is the way to go for the next one!

    Do you know if you can install an electric pump with a hand pumped faucet? Or would I have to replace it with a regular faucet?

  • @editbench

    get a Whale Gusher foot pump- it's what everyone uses in the sailing world. same idea but a profoundly better pump design - output flow per pump vastly better. fill a 12 oz water bottle in prob 2 pumps. Asian knock offs on ebay for $60 shipped.

  • @jupitersailing
    @jupitersailing Před 2 lety +4

    PLEASE AVOID BRAIDED HOSES!! Here's why: As a domestic plumber in the UK for the past 40 years I can sympathise with this old 'effort-to-flow' problem, and it is largely down to those pesky braided hoses and their tiny bore - ie the lack of space inside the tube causing difficulty in passing water!
    We have both mains water and gravity-fed water systems in houses here, and if you try to use the braided hose tap supplies with gravity-fed systems or in low water pressure areas you will be terribly disappointed with the flow. An already poor flow will be severely restricted by braided hoses, and you will become very disenchanted very quickly.
    A foot operated pump will need a tap or fawcet with, as near as possible, a 1/2" inlet and NO hose restricting it.
    Hope this helps people to not only avoid this with manual pumps/foot pumps but also with electric pump installations, as the restrictive nature of braided hoses burns out the motor very quickly. Remember, braided hose is a big no-no anywhere in a van, caravan, motorhome or boat set-up no matter what system you use, unless those braided hoses are as close to being full 1/2" or 15mm bore right through, including through fittings. I have seen this problem aggravate customers hundreds of times, and had to explain why there is a problem. Repeatedly damaging a pump will soon make you wish you'd had wider bore pipework, and even a foot or hand pump will quickly develop a leak at a weak point in the design after persistently fighting to get water to travel through a thin stretch of hose. Whale electric pumps are wonderful, but if you make them struggle non-stop they will soon give up. The chinese copies are much, much less able to accommodate a thin bore, and will die within the first two week trip away.
    You may also inadvertently restrict hot flow through a gas or electric water heater causing it to repeatedly turn on and off, and possibly damaging it beyond economic repair.
    I really hope this helps you and that you've read this in time, wherever you are in the world.

      What faucet do you recommend. Thanks for the info

    • @jupitersailing
      @jupitersailing Před 2 lety +1

      @@AnkeneyVanBuilds Well when you go to purchase the faucet either check on the packaging or ask the staff for confirmation that it is designed for use with gravity-fed systems. The difference in functioning is that gravity-fed probably has around one bar (14lbs/square inch) of pressure behind it, and the water pumped from the local waterworks may have between 3 and 5 times that pressure due to colossal electric pumps. Therefore a faucet designed for gravity-fed systems is able to give you a good flow thanks to its much wider bore tubes. It's a good idea to do a bit of research online first so that you will not be disappointed. A quick phone call or email to the importer or local seller will confirm or deny its suitability, and this question will have arisen plenty of times before.
      Quite often the mention of it on the box is microscopic - well they don't want you being put off by realistic facts now, do they!! I often get customers complaining that 'that faucet my son installed in the bathroom is pathetically slow - can you fix it?".
      I know instantly what the problem is.
