Hey everyone!
Unfortunately Display.Land has been shut down, which means that you will no longer be able to access the app or the data associated with it. Hope you still enjoyed the video. Here is a link to a more in depth photogrammetry tool which serves as a great alternative: www.capturingreality.com/

Hijacking this comment to let people know that Blender's Quadriflow remesher is all you need to optimize the models from this app (unless you are animating it of course). Just duplicate the object, remesh it, then smart UV unwrap and bake the texture from the high res mesh to the optimized mesh. The video showed Blender's "Decimate" modifier as the method but that outputs bad topology so I wouldn't recommend it.
Yeah it will also look like u made it fast
Yeah it will also look like u made it fast
Damn, I could have done this 2 years ago in my game development thesis. Scanning the whole school to create a Resident Evil-like game. We end up creating a 2D Game instead cuz we lack people to create 3D Models.
You could've went with the classic look that was pre-rendered backgrounds with static camera angles and tank control.
and how do you render the 3D looking 2D backgrounds?
bro its always hard because you need to RETOPOLGY ALL...
This video is not saying that thing.

He didn't?that was my point
Everybody gangsta until the dude from around the world in 80 days starts scanning the entire world
underrated
This is an older video but I’ve gotta say that even if you don’t get a highly detailed mesh out of some of the scans, you could always import them into a 3D software and model over them to create a new and clean mesh based off of the high detailed one. Shrink wrap is a modifier you can use in Blender for example.
Oh man, you should continue this series with facial/body tracking!
O HO HO HO HO WE NEED REAL TIME 3D SCANNING SO WE CAN ROAM AROUND A VIRTUAL WORLD IN VR AND OTHER VIRTUAL THINGZ ON IT
My Idea: Scan your room, load it into VR and play it in the same room
Edit: thank you for 300 Likes!
Imagine editing the room so it looks like alot different, but the table and chairs and stuff are still in the exact same position. That would be crazy. Like the upside down
What if you just changed some things up here and there, so that the placement of the objects are the same but maybe they look different, nicer. You could essentially scan you whole house and if you had it set up right, perform like the greatest 24 hour vr challenge

As much as I want to agree that this is an amazing tool, the some of the results looks like a live-action picasso painting. The technology is not ready yet but this is a really interesting video to watch, it seems we are getting close to in home 3D-scanning and that is really exciting.

Thank you so much for this video! I have been looking for quite a while now for a good scanning app, but all of them either required dual cameras or were paid apps. This is perfect! Thank you!
Wow, a 3d scanner app without in app purchases. I’m impressed

Neupane I meant the app in the video, link is in the description
Man. With more levels and enemy types, that could be a really funny game.
This is a game changer, this helps people who want to get into game dev actually gets into it. I'm so excited!
This gives me a whole new reason to go on an outdoor adventure...head out for months then come back with an alternate universe game
I Just want to know one thing: If I use their app to create my own models, render them in Unity (Like you did), make and sell a game using those models... Do I owe any money to displayland for using their application to do that? I just went to their site and tried to understand their policy, and I think the answer is "no" due to the "Intellectual Property" laws/classification/definition... but those policies are always so long and convoluted and dense that only a lawyer could possibly find the loopholes and absolutes.
Don't would make sense they put the app free and ask for your project money, but its a very good question
I think the reason the app is free in the first place is because they collect the models and will probably built a large asset library off of user scans, and this is where the profit would come in. Never used the app or read their terms of use but it really does sound like they aim for this.
Or they just might have ads in the app and they don't take money off you
this sort of technology could change everything about the way models are created, a digital model creator might struggle to add realistic level detail quickly to for example a table, but a real world carpenter could make an actual physical table, and have it scanned into being a model, or for fantasy genre game having a genuine blacksmith creating the weapons.
I think in the future you will be able to request any type of asset from cloud libraries, and machine learning (deep learning?) will modify the asset to whatever you want. For example, you desire a table, but you want it decorated with a cloth from the time of Henry VIII and also featuring goblets from Viking times. No problem, the algorithm "knows" these features or can find out, or can even create them from scratch after researching all available literature on Tudor cloths and Viking goblets. Et voila! just click to download. After paying a small fee of course :-)
I already scanned my face and modded into a bunch of games
amazing tool will be helpful in many of my projects
nice video Brackeys!!!
This is amazing! I am just imagining the possibilities of scanning a city and playing a game in that city
Imagine this with VR. It would take some long scanning times but it would be worth!
Well it will be more efficient over time and we shall hope the future

Don't worry @Crafto 1337 I live in Copenhagen too, you can rob me instead :P
I've been playing with photogrammetry since like 3 years , infact I suggest this video on an email like 2 years ago ,
It could be improved through the new unity delight tool and other aspects it is great for large scale projects but there's some trade there i.e time ,for reflected materials I suggest using laser scanning or model it yourself, there's a budget laser scans but mostly you don't need them ...depends on your game
ways to improve your scan :
-Use high resolution camera .
-Try to place your scaned object under good lighting conditions
-try to avoid auto focused mode use manual and adjust the settings as you need .
-remove blurry shots
-the respective distance should be the same with each angel
-remove lighting using Unity delight tool.
there's other things but for kow I think these are the most important for beginners, have fun .
I'm trying to develop tool to bring this to unity with some improvement I've learned through my experience.. and to make it easier.
If you want to spare some help or want me to help DM on Instagram@Veteran_gamez
Hey bro, I am interesting in helping you. Are you still working on this project? Did you ever come across any alternatives since display.land shutdown?
@@ghost_in_the_robot hi there,
There's always an alternative solution , I suggest you look at agisoft which provides the best textures quality & accurate mapping ( they also have really good delighting tool)
There's also open source applications
but the problem with photogrammetry is that you can't capture anything i.e repetitive pattern & reflected materials,
Unity actually acquired a company that specialized for material authoring using ai&ml .
But it's expansive licensing fees .
the tool I want to make isn't yet ready but it's on the list ( perhaps it's not competitive at all) tho
I'm learning AI&ML now with other projects .
whenever it's ready to use I will publish it into the assets store and my instagram account .
I already scanned my face and modded into a bunch of games
@@Matschaak lol , the face particularly have use advanced shader and authorize material maps depends on lighting situations , i.e microsurfacs & multi specular mapping and additionally changes during animation needs be change dynamically other wise you will get uncanny valley, some advanced techniques include 3D printing and advanced hair shading. One of the best studio done it right the Dexter studio and there's other fewer examples but baked and not enough resources of breakdown the vfx
@@ludologian Yeah that would be so awesome. Like Metahuman maybe? But I don't have that XD just a static mesh.

0:40 I was SURE you would say "procedural generation"
"Your device is not supported" rippy dippy, are there any photogrammetry apps compatible with the samsung galaxy a10
Try SCANN3D
I think the warped windows and things from the reflective surfaces gave it a really awesome style. I'd use that as it is
Could have used this technology about 3 years ago, when I needed to model by hand a statue and central park. I hope this technology evolves!
Honestly as cool as an app for this is, I wish it was a more general "Upload a video file" service, because then you could use whatever cameras you have lying around which could be higher quality than a cellphone camera. For example I have a decent DSLR that I could then use, and higher res video would likely produce cleaner looking results. The app makes things easier a little because phones have sensor data like rotation and momentum data, but these are only aids to photogrammetry and are not required, it's a similar technology to how camera tracking can work in various programs, based on an image alone and enough tracking points software can determine with good accuracy where the camera was, which provides the same info as the rotation and momentum data of the phone. So personally I prefer to use MeshRoom.
There's free desktop software that lets you upload videos or photo sets and do photogrammetry with it.
This program is cool because of the convenience, but if you want the higher quality you will probably want the extra control from doing it yourself as well.
Man wrote a whole essay just to say no thanks
@@thelegendofme7520 A single paragraph is hardly an essay. All I was doing was expressing how I felt it'd be more useful if it was made more general. I said nothing about no thanks, and I never said it wasn't interesting or cool, simply that it was limiting its potential by being tied to a phone app. That's all.
