I wish NKP #759 would operate again!
I received this DVD as a gift and it's a fantastic video. This video is a MUST for any Norfolk & Western fan!
Thank you! I'm glad you like it.
Finally!
A film where 759 is dressed in N&W colors...
This Is Great Watching Nickel Plate #759 & The Last N&W Pocahontas😊😊😊 &🚂🚂🚂
Thanks!
Interesting that the 759 still had her original Bendix train radio mounted on the tender deck. She should be out there w/765! Not sitting as a static display! Same for the 779!
I cannot think of a good reason why this locomotive is sitting cold in Steamtown. She needs a 1472 and then she should be out with 765, stunning new initiates into the steam hobby!
Wonder if any railfans are trying to turn that into a reality, they would need lots of money I suppose like a sponsor.
Kitty Muffins put simply, the engine is un-run-able. The engine was being stored in a roundhouse in PA, I think, during the winter. Some people working the house were assigned with draining the water out of the engine’s pipes. They didn’t do it correctly and the water froze up in the engine over the months. This messed up the flues, pipes, etc and repair were to expensive. F in the chat for the 759 bois
@@capitollimitedproductions211 In need of repair, yes. Un-runnable? No. Any repairs to the boiler and plumbing that still need to be undertaken are automatically addressed in a 1472 day inspection anyway. All tubes, flues, and staybolts are replaced and all plumbing as needed. Yes she did suffer freeze damage but I believe it was confined to strictly the piping, not the boiler and most of it was repaired after Steamtown won the lawsuit against the D&H for leaving her out in the cold. They actually made a few test runs in the yard with her after the repairs, but a tube let go which prompted them to pull all the flues in preparation for replacement but that never came to fruition and this is how the engine sits today. Also, at one point she also suffered damage to her Engineer's side valve cage when an additional cylinder oil reservoir that was plumbed into the mechanical lubricator became contaminated with condensate when a crew member forgot to put the fill plug back in. The lubricator started pumping water instead of oil and with superheated steam being sent to those cylinders it didn't take long for her to start squeaking and develop a continuous wheeze, even after they got rid of the water and got the lubricator re-primed with cylinder oil. I'm not sure if that was repaired along with the freeze damage, but once again, the valve cages and cylinder sleeves can be extracted and new ones fitted as well as well as new rings after the valves and pistons are freshened up. 759 is arguably one of the most historically significant and iconic engines in the Steamtown collection, and also she is arguably in the best Mechanical shape of any other engine in the collection and would take the least amount of work and money to get back into steam. To prove it, she rolls smoothly with all of her running gear still connected, no rods removed, she's been continuously stored indoors since her excursion career, and she last ran relatively recently compared to most of the other engines. She is more than powerful enough to do anything that Steamtown asks of her and more, and she will do it swiftly and efficiently since she was built at the Apex of Lima Super Power. And while I love 2317 and 3254, 759 will be comparatively cheaper to restore, operate, and maintain than the two of them. IMHO, 3713 was the wrong engine to restore, as 759 can do a lot more with only a very slight increase in overall operating costs.
Also Steamtown was on board to restore 759 it was tested but it failed the hydro static test and abandoned the project and they say that Steamtown has little interest in restoring 759 and are focusing on Boston and Maine 3713
I can restore it! Even though I'm only 11years old. I think I can get the berk running
Cool seeing the servicing going on without the first safety vest or hardhat. 👍
Fire up 759
Is this Danny from Distant Signal? He's amazing at voice-overs!
That is indeed him. And he certainly is good at voice-overs, no doubt about that.
Lima Superpower at its finest. I agree with PRR5406 759 had a short excursion life and she was given a major overhaul by the nickel plate and was retired after that and Ross Rowland did a fine job of restoring her I would love to know her condition today she would be the best locomotive at steamtown to bring back to life for excursions again.
759 is still at steamtown usa
Is Herron Rail Video still producing historical train videos? For all I know, train video studios, like Green Frog and Pentrex, are still producing steam train videos and modern railroading videos. So, is Herron still in business or something?
Absolutely. Search for herronraildotcom
@@herronrailvideo1169 Nice. I was concerned you stopped producing railroad videos and went out of business.

Hey it’s Danny harmen
Actually, it's Danny Harmon.
Herron Rail Video ok ok
Herron Rail Video ok ok
Is that Danny Harmond?
Yes, Danny is our narrator on several of our shows.
Cool.
@@herronrailvideo1169 I made a stop motion in paper.
it's a video for you called steam on the Central and captial railroad

Come on steamtown bring her back! We know restoring 759 is hard but it’s way easier then restoring 4014! All you gotta do is fix a few of its boiler pipes!
Ok foamer 🤦
I hate Amtrak! They not only took away many cool trips like the Pocahontas, and other passenger trains back then. THEN they have the audacity of the ultimate stupidity to cut all “special excursions” in 2017! With this no more mainline steam! I hate Amtrak!
Amtrak was a government creation because the passenger train was a money losing venture. Its priority is first and foremost to its passenger service, though I will agree the recent excursion decision was a boneheaded move when it cost them a lot of PR.
Its not Amtrak's fault that Amtrak sucks. It was formed because all those old railroads were failing businesses in the first place. The highway system killed rail. Then all the lines were sold to freight companies, so Amtrack hardly owns any lines anymore.
@@TheTrainMan570 The lines were owned by said "freight companies" before Amtrak came into being.
