    This was your best interview ever. My ears were GLUED to my phone (I was listening in the background without the video). You should bring Mr. Hoffman back for as many times as he’s down to participate! An absolute legend.

    I have a bunch of 1950's and 1960's "test" records, as well as a few copies of the "sessions" LP produced by JBL. But regarding music for "testing" my vinyl setup, I have a music album that I view similarly to the records you showed. It's one I picked up at Goodwill for a quarter about 15 years ago. "Annie get your gun", with Doris Day. The orchestra was recorded on one coast, they sent to tapes to the other coast, and her vocals were recorded there, yet it sounds like an amazing live performance.
    It caused me to coin the phrase: Don't kid yourself, the industry had sound quality dialed in way back in the 50's. On a related note, I was listening to one of my Herb Alpert and the TJB records a few months ago and realized that there was some amazing production going on there, and talent, and arrangement magic. When you put yourself in the place of an average 20 or 30 something in the mid-60's, and the music history that preceded it, it suddenly makes sense that that sound was hugely popular. And played to death.
    And always remember, vinyl is final!😉

    Steve W, I'd love it if you'd have Tom Port back on to talk about the Hot Stampers concept, and to share his picks for great records and tips on how to find them on your own. As great as Steve H's advice and perspectives are, Tom's got a lot to offer along these lines as well.

    I subscribed to The Secret Guide To Music and ordered the DCC titles back in the day. I finally have equipment to do them justice. Later bought the Rock of the '70s compilations plus DCC LPs (Eagles, Elton John , Jethro Tull etc.) and Audio Fidelity CDs (Alice Cooper, Heart, Carly Simon etc.). Glad I bought them before the Secret got out. Thanks Steve H. I also enjoy your version of Who's Next on MCA. One advantage of being old is having added these to my collection when they were new and reasonably priced.

    Thank you Steve W. and Steve H. I enjoyed Mr. Hoffman's selection of LPs to listen and test your sound system. I would ask that Mr. Hoffman discuss a few more examples of these eclectic sound gems. I read the Hoffman forum and was familiar with many of them and they are available in the Chicagoland area at a low price. Once you listen to what Mr. Hoffman looks for in a recording one can go off and find other listening gems of their own. I look forward to when he revisits your channel.

    • @mazzysmusic
      @mazzysmusic Před 2 měsíci

      They can only narrow it down and direct you to a good option. Of course it may vary depending on your gear, your room, your ears and your taste. But if there are ten choices, it’s cool to get them narrowed down by someone who may have heard many of them.

    Thanks you BOTH Steves! Hey Mr. Westman... I'm a bit confused because I would REALLY like to get that 1987 CD everyone is talking about for the Magical Mystery Tour. Mr. Hoffman kept saying the EMI CD, but there is no EMI CD listed on Discogs. The very first one listed is a UK CD and it is Parlophone. The 2nd one listed is a US CD, but it says 'Remastered' and 'Jax', certainly that cannot be the one he said that is a Flat Transfer, right? So, do I get the 1st UK one? All the subsequent ones say 'Remastered', so I honestly do NOT know which one to get and I would like to. As the Beatles said, 'Can you *PLEASE, PLEASE Help Me!'* Thank you Sir!

    • @mazzysmusic
