    I modded a Harley Benton Jazzmaster (with lots of your inspiration) but I left the pickups since it sounded so good. I just updated the internals with new 1Meg pots and a switchable capacitor from Mythos Pedals and shielded the inside. It is so good with a cheap wiggle stick too. It lost some tuning stability but I like the broken sound of the stringless always just floating in an out of tune

    Recently bought my first fender guitar been playing upright bass for years. A lovely jaguar… first thing I ripped off the neck and installed a shim within two weeks I had the chisel out hocking chunks out of the body to give me more room to install a variable coil split circuit in the upper cavity for a set of vintage overspun PAF humbuckers and les Paul wiring… pretty crazy to spend so much on a guitar and rip it up almost right away.

      @@NoFearGuitarGear I only refinished a spot a few centimeters in size. Gibson's quality control missed an air bubble under the neck where the finish chipped off. It used to be the same color in the beginning but the nitro turned yellow quickly and the nail polish remained largely the same giving it a very special look. This feature is almost as cool as my ESP Eclipse buckle rush :) It's the living proof that poly can age great too looking like broken glass.

    I remember when basswood a the cheap wood cheap guitars were made from. Top of the lounge guitars use basswood these days and sell it as atonewood. It's all marketing. While craftsmanship is real, they price of guitars is primarily snake oil.

    • @NoFearGuitarGear
      @NoFearGuitarGear  Před 2 měsíci +1

      You are correct basswood was initially adopted in the least expensive instruments and now is in stuff at all prices. Can't deny some of that is marketing, but the other thing is basswood does have its own sonic properties and players have embraced that for their sound in many cases. Also pickups, effects, and amps have come so far that the little sonic edge you get from the wood in the body is less of a difference maker than it once was. Lots of factors behind the broadening of the use of basswood from what we have seen.

    For some reason, it seems a lot harder to find a truly authentic JM clone than a truly authentic Strat or Tele clone. With Strats and Teles, it’s not that hard to find good clones with styling, pickups, and hardware that are completely interchangeable with a genuine Fender. Not so for the JM-it seems like most JM clones fall short of the real thing in some way, like having a slightly smaller body, no rhythm circuit, P90’s instead of proper JM-style pickups (such as on the OS40), and/or different bridge/vibrato tailpiece hardware (like the Harley Benton JA-60). I think Ryan is correct that the OS40 might just be the cheapest JM clone out there that has an authentic JM-style bridge and vibrato tailpiece. I know IYV makes a couple of JM clones with JM-style tailpieces and even rhythm circuits, but still with only P90-style pickups and Wilkinson-type roller Tune-o-Matic bridges, which might actually be better for tuning stability.
