- This How To Tutorial shows one of the most common coolant leaks that are hard to diagnose. When the turbo coolant line o-rings start to leak you may never see a drop, but might slowly lose coolant over time. In this DIY tutorial I show you how to replace the turbo coolant line o-rings on a 2016 BMW F30 N20 320i 4 Cylinder Turbo Engine. This DIY can apply to other turbo BMW engines as well, the process might just be a little different. I have attached links to the parts seen in this video. Thanks for watching, see you all in the next one!

the more videos I watch about my car, the more I want to sell it.
😂
I sold mine for a lexus, no such issues
Thats exactly what came to my mind 😢, never buy BMW again
don't maintain your BMW properly, then cry how bad it is. if you can't afford it, don't cry about it.
@@jabajaba15I can afford mine I’m just tires off sending it to the shop every few months!
that was exactly what i had in my 528i . thank you so much for the info. keep posting videos
Went to the dealer for an four-hour oil change and got a $7,500 estimate. $3,700 of it was to replace the turbo cooler hoses. Luckly you made this video . Only cost me $38 for two O rings at the dealer. I only bought those from them cause I needed the part right away. Thanks for the video help a lot.
Good video. My car has the N20 and I've topped up the coolant a couple of times in the past year (which I wasn't expecting to have to do). I'm going to check these o-rings now, thanks.
It never occurred to me that the turbo would have / need coolant lines as well as oil lines. It will now. Thanks!
I don't have an N20 (have plenty of 6-8 cyl though). But watching your job is always a joy!
Appreciate you guys for always supporting!
Mystery Solved. Nice work, guys!
Thanks Rich!
Thank you for sharing the info and making an effort of shooting the video. I've been adding coolant to my wife's F30 N20 for the past 3 month. Finally I decided to check the common issues online and here we go: you case covers up to 99% of indicated symptoms. Special thanks for providing the links to the parts (O-rings). Al in all with your help I have saved at least $300, considering the rates that BMW shops usually charge. THANK YOU!
Just to add some details: 2013 BMW F30 with 76K miles.
great content brother thank you
Great video, thank you so much!
Nice vid very informative 💪🏾
Good Job. Very interesting. Thanks
Man, great video will keep this in mind....I've got the F31 wagon
Thanks man, I love wagons!!
@@ShopLifeTV I know......Lol
Great job bro. Thank you.
Thanks buddy, got this same issue on my 2013 F30. 🙏
Good job and good info...thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Good information. Thanks
Thanks for this video I do have coolant leak that I can't find. I will check this when the weather get better here in the uk.
Hope it's just the o-rings so that it is an easy fix!
THANK YOU
Awesome vid; thanks!
Thank you for watching!
Silicone lube is top tier. Works every time.
Miss your guys
Glad to be back to uploading!
Hey Shop Life Fam you should really put out more f30 videos I feel that would offer a lot of value to your channel since IMO that’s the most popular chassis.
Did this and still was leaking, sadly had to take off the whole manifold and replace the turbo coolant lines, was definitely a pain in the ass but did it myself vid was super helpful
Your the man thank you and yup mechanics good for a lot stuff 😂
Good tip on the brake clean, I hate seeing brake clean being used on rubber and plastic even if it’s non chlorinated I feel like it reduces the life of whatever it touches
Car has had this problem twice now, finally got diagnosed. 2017 430i. European repair shops wants $920.00 for repairs and labor.
Do you have a BMW part number for those orings
How long should this take ?
Inam asking as im wonfering how much to charge for this exact job.
2014 BMW 328i Low coolant indicator came on three weeks ago, and mechanic topped off coolant couldn’t find any leak. Mechanic also did an oil change the same day. The following morning my car has had blue white smoke coming out the exhaust on start up. Is this coolant or is it oil? The coolant light has never come back on.
Yesss🔥👌
Did you have overheat problem?
Bro I love your channel🫡
my M240i (2017) uses some coolant I never heard anyone in all my researching say to check this.
Do you have a shop in California if so where?
How much coolant did you take out?
It's a little confusing from the way it played out, but did you completely drain the coolant or just some from the turbo coolant lines? I tried this and after a few seconds of coolant leaving my lines I plugged it back up for fear I would be stuck holding a bucket under it while the whole coolant system emptied out; which I just changed... lol
I didn’t drain the coolant before hand, but during the o-ring replacement I collected close to a gallon of coolant
I have an F30 n26. Maybe you've come across this issue: The car dumps its coolant when the heat is on. Could this be the heater core or the control valve, or something else? I can't tell yet where the leak is, but it's closer to passenger side, you can see some wetness near the water pump but it seems dry, there's no issue when the heat is off.
Did you ever find out where your coolant was going I have the same mystery with my f30 n26
Yes, it was the water pump. I ended up replacing that, the thermostat and a few hoses as prevention while I had the system drained.
There is a coolant sensor on the passenger side of the radiator that also like to slowly leak out of the O-ring. Found ours leaking while doing the oil filter housing gasket.
is that sensor you're talking about looks like a wiring harness that clips into the upper passenger side of the radiator?
Hi, I have a 330i f30 2018, I got prob got scammed by a seller who sold me the car and my intercooler fluid is always going below the level after a just few days. They also sold me false insurance that does not cover anything. I feel so helpless and sad, when they took the car in they only pressure-tested the engine coolant reservoir, not the other one. And now they are just unwilling to help me further...
Can anyone tell me if he will work on a Bmw . If so location of shop or email or any contact info. Thank You
Since 1 month, I have a code that appears in my BMW 528i 2014 (N20) screen mentioning a lack of coolant. Even after adding blue coolant 50/50, after the engine warms up, it mentions the code again in my screen mentioning a lack of coolant and yet the coolant is in min-max of the tank.
What to check?
The actual sensor is likely bad.
Might be the reason behind the b58 coolant loss mystery
Same issue here. I have to add a little about every 3 months. Just a splash.
mine is leaking from the turbo lines on a 2015 bmw x4
It also could be the line itself too.
The inside of the coolant line gets loose and leaks.
From the middle, not the o ring.
I'm dealing with that right now.
Did you just replace the line or can you carefully cut the bad rubber off the plastic that goes to the waterproof housing and clamp it on the metal and plastic part in a pinch?
Anyone have the problem where alot of white smoke comes out the exhaust at start up then disappears
Trying get some advice. Any help would be appreciated.
Discovered a coolant leak on my 135i. Took to shop for a radiator replacement and after picking up the vehicle started getting transmission issues after driving it for a day or so.
-Honestly, how much would you charge your customer to fix repair like this? £ 950 ??😂😂
What did you use to pry the top one off
A pick and my fingers. Can’t really see anything while doing it so wear some thick gloves otherwise you will have some holes in your fingers
I’ve been trying that I have a little space in it just won’t budge
Can’t get top hose off
If my car starts leaking coolant in December, it isn’t getting fixed until march. Too damn cold for working on cars now. 🥶
Don't neglect it. An overheated engine could leave you stranded or worse destroy your engine. Overheated engines are generally not covered under warranty and worse, are hugely expensive to replace out of warranty.
@@houseofno I meant for small leaks. Keep the tank topped up. Will be fine.
Hahaha I don’t blame you, I can’t stand the cold
December is prime car project season in Houston. Usually no mosquitoes and manageable temps 🤣
@@y2ksierra I think mosquitos are getting tougher. I get bitten by them all year round.
Here in London it is freezing and snow is on the way. 🥶
Did you have to remove the engine to access the turbo coolant lines? I have a 2015 528I and my mechanic wants to charge me $3,500
Think this is happening to my m4
I’m losing way too much coolant for it to be the turbo coolant lines
Noticed the EPS shield was cracked…either hit a big bump or someone lifted this car in the wrong spot confusing it with the center jack point. Trust me I know. Guilty. Happened to me. Very costly mistake if EPC control unit gets messed up. $6000 +
Yeah I have the same repair on my brother in laws. Except the coolant was leaking from the hose to metal fitting part of the line. As well as rust belt car so everything was seized. Turbo out, replace lines, replace all o rings on oil lines. And now the turbo drain line on the block side is leaking. Can't win with this car. czcams.com/video/x0oDImQrI7U/video.html
If you own a bmw....get rid of it now! Lol
😂
Save your time and use “Lqui Moly radiator stop leak”
Good solid tips yo. That car is ugly though
Thanks man, the cars not bad, just needs some mods!
@@ShopLifeTV haha probably right
