To the guy that made the video. I’m new to airbrushing and all I do is watch videos or read about airbrushing. After 9 years of the marine Corps I had to find something to do besides sit around and think about the past. I started watching different videos on painting and airbrush seemed to be something I wanted to try anyways it’s helping me to stay active and my mind to remain open and free. I haven’t trued the cleaning pot but it’s something on my list to buy along with few other things. I’ve tried the airbrush cleaner which I’m not to happy with do to it doesn’t take all the paint out and I spend more time cleaning than painting. My question is this would it be safe to just use acetone to clean my gun after each color? Just one more question sir. Have you ever used Angelus leather paints to airbrush and what paint would you recommend to paint with on t-shirts to get the bright colors? Like to know what the shops use such as the shirts you get airbrush at the beach. Lol they have some bright colors. Thank you sir.
i've learned a great amount of paint work from this man!
Thank you my friend
I love watching your tutorials because you just talk about what works. Some stuff that works is expensive, but some stuff (like the teeth cleaners) is cheap and easy to find.
This is what I love about this channel. He shows what works without there being an agenda of him trying to push any product.
Home Depot and Lowe's sell thread protectors. They go on the end of threaded rods to prevent the threads being deformed. They work just like the badger caps, just a bit shorter. You can get different sizes depending on what airbrush you have, and they work perfectly. About 1-2 dollars for 2
Thank you for taking the time to do this video and pass on your knowledge …Greatly Appreciated..A Richards Dartmouth UK
Nothing like coming down to airbrush a model and having all your brushes super clean and ready to go! I generally spray hardware store lacquer thinner between color changes, and at the end of the session I do lacquer thinner, then half a cup of hardware cleaner. Keeps everything looking like new.
Thanks man! Another simple steps to make your tools work better and last longer. Great video as usual.
That Iwata brush is actually called a "washing brush" (you can see it on their official site) it looks like yours had the wrong packaging. That's the packaging their replacement needles come in, hence the "fluid needle". I've had to buy a few over the years due to user error.. 😅 ... just fyi
edit: wanted to add. I've been using a Procon Boy for a few months now and I'm glad I just learned about unscrewing the nozzle cap slightly to backflush. I've been replacing the crown cap with a regular flat cap to put my finger over it for backflushing.. This'll save a little time
You sir are the reason I got into airbrushing. I paint miniatures, but your videos are cross platform if you would. I also bought my first Gundam kit just to try it out. Thank you
Thank you for the kind words. Keep me updated on how the Gundam kit turns out. More videos will be up this weekend too
Well, you learn something new everyday!
I never knew you were supposed to put water in the airbrush cleaning pot.
I generally placed paper towels in mine, to soak up the paint / cleaner from the airbrush. Despite the cleaning pot having a bit of filter foam in the the lid, it was still quite smelly at times.
So I think I'll try water in it next time!
I was actually gonna request a cleaning tutorial, you read my mind sir! As always a great video.
FYI. The GUM brushes have a coated wire to avoid scratching. Check other brushes for the same protective coating design.
Oh yeah, those things are great
Another great video and much appreciated. After I watched your video I went onto Amazon and ordered the larger airbrush cleaning pot. What I also learned that I didn’t know was to add water into it beforehand. I never did that with my old one. I certainly will with the new one though. Thank you again for another great tutorial,
Best wishes!
Thanks Rex, very thorough and informative. Also the new intro screen is great.
Thanks for the new upload. I really like the new intro song, and how the volume is about the same as your speaking voice. It's a small thing that makes watching these more enjoyable. :)
I recently bought a cleaning pot from sparmax and i didnt know you need to fill it with water. Thx for the tip.
The blackend blue is awesome looking. Great for two toning
You are the greatest at finding great products at economical prices!!
I had to get those cotton swabs for cleaning. Thanks!!
You're welcome buddy
This was another good video that showed in a simple way how to do this and with what. Even where to get the supplies. Another winner! Thank you and Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you and your family
Great video the was a few pieces that I got with my cleaning pot and didn’t know what they were for, now I know thank you. I noticed you changed your intro looking good. 👍
I had to watch this video again. After several months.
Great, great video. Learned a ton. Thank you!
I’m returning the crappy spray pot from Harbor Freight, glad I never used it. Getting the red one.
Great information as always -- keep them coming.
The gaahleri cleaning pot is identical to the round cleaning pot you demistated and it includes that pointy tool too..
Just wanted you to know that I have pick up several handy tips from you. Thanks for all of the information you provide.
You're welcome buddy 👍
Amazon was sold out of the Red cleaning pot version so i ordered the Masters version and a separate cleaning kit.
Nice! I have a GSI Creos 289,, best how to clean video by far!
I have the traditional cleaning pot. I had to rebend the airbrush holding bracket so my badge 105 would fit in there better. No complaints since I did that.
All excellent tips… I am liking the new intro also!
Awesome video learned a lot from this guy. Thanks
Thank you, from that guy
Good- day Rex. I have watched many of your videos and have learned quite a lot. As mostly everyone has stated I did not know you were supposed to put water in the cleaning pot. I like the GUM teeth cleaners and gun cleaning swabs.
I just learned a lot thanks👍
I have just bought my first airbrush, it's a portable, battery type. I also ordered a portable spray booth you recommended (well, similar, I'm in Australia so I can't get exactly the same) but basically this is all your fault!!! I really get a lot out of your videos, easy to watch. I'll be referring to this one a few times!
Great video and a really nice "how to". I really like how you show the process with different styles of airbrushes, got a lot out of that. Even thought I've been doing this for a long time it's always nice when I see and learn something new. I've never seen that orange pot with the cap, I have the standard one, I may look in to that one since mines is getting hard to open and close. I have also been using those "GUM" things, they work great and super inexpensive. Do you use lacquer cleaner and acetone for all paint or just lacquers? I only use acrylics so I just use water and my home brew airbrush cleaner. Ether way, you make cleaning them look super easy, not always that way for me especially with primers. Thanks again and have a great day. -David
I hope you and mcw can make an all of the colors set. So we can buy all of the colors at once. Aside from the anodized aluminum ones cause those are already a set. But all the colors outside of that would be awesome to have a massive set! Great vid too.
When I need to backflush my H&S Silverline airbrush, I use the small cap from GUM Trav-Ler Evolution . It fits on the nozzle cap.
Rex, Thanks for the helpful cleaning tips! Question - What is the diameter of that black protective cap? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Great video! I'm new to airbrushing, though I plan to use it for painting instead of miniatures. I was wondering if the lacquer would still be needed if I am using regular acrylic or fabric paints ?
I ordered a 200 pack, of the gun clean style Q-tips, off Amazon, after seeing this video, and I shit you not, they accidentally sent me 6,000, and I was only charged the 200pk I ordered 😳 Chalked it up to good karma, and I’ll never need another one, as long as I live 🤣 Thanks for the (Q)tip!! Lol
Send me a 100 to the Uk 😁😁seriously though do you have the Amazon article reference numbers……thankyou
The dental brushes can be purchased at the dollar store. Cheap
I used a beaker and Mr. Hobby Tool cleaner and an ultrasonic cleaner at the end of each session, airbrush like new as day one. But noted only the front part should be touching the cleaner.
I now have a setup with a separate stand and a bucket without a stand. So I can just flush and then put the airbrush away without that stand bit getting in the way.
Tip if you wanna be real thorough: Ultrasonic cleaner. Plop in some water and dish soap and you're good. Cleanes out everything inside the nozzle and the main part itself. Does mean you're disassembling the entire thing. Might sound like overkill, but I deem it necessary when painting with things like metallics, especially if they contain some sparkle. That sparkle gets everywhere, and the ultrasonic cleans it right out.
I found some silicone tip covers once on Amazon that fit over the airbrush tip just like the metal cap you have. They were 10 for 2 bucks.
That's great. I use those things everyday
I found the exact same sort of swabs with about a third of the stick between the cotton.
Where did you get the containers that you have the acetone and lacquer thinner in ?
what kind of airbrush stands/holders are you using. the one that holds it by the air valve and the one that holds 2 of them? thank you.
Nice review, I watched your other video on cleaning acrylics with hot water which was great. I have found a better way using Fantastic kitchen cleaner, I just shoot acrylic paint so don't know how it will work with other mediums. Thanks for sharing how you clean your AB's
In your videos I've watched, I haven't seen a "vortex mixer", have you considered using one? I use that for different types of paints such acrylics and enamels, you don't need to stick anything inside the paint pot and it really helps to shake the entire pigments inside, specially those settled down the paint pods in the corners.
Well I tested this one and use it every day

Thank You - Thank You - THANK YOU !! for all of your hard work in making these videos, i know its not easy. i know this was 2yrs ago. but as i said in another comment, im new to the hobby of airbrush, so im really diggin your channel man. your videos are really helping me answer a lot of questions.
im like... so how do i - oh look B-Rex made a vid, SWEET... so now, how do i...? B-Rex has a vid....!! lmao
im using all this airbrush stuff to paint my 3D Printed stuff. i do both FDM and RESIN. so shes used to me spending money on craft stuff. lol. but now, im buying paints etc. and thats her domain!
my wife said to tell you - Youre In The Dog House Mister !!
at first it was just like a couple colors. and she was ok with that. bcuz she does hand painted Wood Signs and so shes like why am "I" buying paints? paints are hers!! 3D prints are mine!

ROFLMAO. so yeah, shes made at you LMAO. so now youre in the dog house with me !!! ROFLMAO. THANKS BUDDY !!
Oh no, not the dog house 😬 Tell her life's too short, paint makes it better 👍
Great video!
Great video I'm curious what the best air brush holders are and how to set up everything to air brush possibly you can do a video on the best way to airbrush
I'm going to do a full video on airbrushing basics beginning to end.
If you need caps to backwash try some carburetor vacuum caps. They are rubber and come it sets of different sizes. You can find them at most every auto parts store.
Great info, thanks
If you are using water based paints is a cleaning pot still useful?
Hey rex! Been a huge fan recently and thank you for so much good info on things that saved one of my airbrushes, and also a video of showing this really cheap but practical airbrush kit (The nedeco I believe it's called), that I bought and was happy with, but I wanted to ask a few questions since I've been customizing transformers figures for a while.
1. Would a dehydrator work on them and not melt them at all like how you dry the spoons out and model kit pieces?
2. Would you recommend the airbrushes in the video here? So it's more easy to follow with cleaning and such?
3. What airbrushes would you actually recommend? Since I want to get the best of my customs
4. What paint/lacquer would you recommend? I've heard you mention alclad a few times, and I want to use the best of either of those to make my customs as durable and playable as possible
Thank you so much in advance! And really sorry for this wall of text haha, have a great day/evening/night!
Thanks for the video, nice one! just bought the triple 7 model. to replace an worn out one ...Whats the zippo fluid for? 🙂 apart from the obvious and have you ever tried cleaning in a ultrasound bath at all as I have one that I use for mine...thanks a lot....
I did a video on cleaning airbrushes with an ultrasonic cleaner. The Zippo fluid is for cleaning panel lnes
Whath airbrush and compressor y need basíc for dye leather?
👍Great informative video
I think plastic ferrules on the brush clearing are preferable to metal ones...i've damaged the plating of the cup on some of my Badgers with the black plating on them..finding plasitc ones isn't easy tho'..one other method is to tape up the metal ferrules on the brush so it doesn't touch the interior of the cup
7:29 what holder are you using for the airbrush?
Where did you get the red airbrush pot from
FYI The GUM brushes have a coated wire so as not to scratch. Make sure other brands are similar.
ME6300E BLACKENED BLUE. I can under stand the box set for shipping. But for one color I Thought that it was a little high. Love the wok your doing. Just want to try some of your paint line. I really think you have a gold mine here . I'm glad that we don't have to look to other country's for model paint. not to say there's is not good.
I called the manufacturer and asked them. They said they use a flat rate system. You can buy 4 jars and it's still $10. They said it's much easier for them. Being a smaller company. That's why I asked what you wanted. I'd try and get you a jar sent out on me
When you have the needle out, the liquid in the cup can flow back into the trigger area of the gun...I have constant trouble with my trigger sticking, and I suspect this may be the cause, but I am not sure. What do u think?
It will happen on occasion. That's why I used the dental piece to go back towards the trigger. Always remember to keep the airbrush tilted downward towards the front. Gravity helps a lot too. But it's part of airbrushing, you will get paint back there. I pull the airbrush apart once a week. Meaning I take out the spring mechanism and clean that out.
I love your videos, but I noticed that you use gravity feed airbrushes, do you use siphon feed airbrushes? I have a siphon feed and I feel like I cannot get it clean enough between colors that I end up doing a full tear down and thorough cleaning. Any tips on that?
I don't use siphon feed airbrushes because I hate cleaning them. You just can't get it clean quickly and that drives me nuts. I clean my gravity ones in about a minute. Sorry to tell you this but someone has to, switch to gravity feed
New subscriber outstanding content!! Eddie from simple kustoms!!
Welcome Eddie. Thanks for the sub 😀
where did you get your airbrush display stand? It looks very convienent for the work bench. Tlhank you, Gene

Hi, can I use rubbing alcohol to clean? I use acrylics and sometimes water doesn’t cut thru the dried paint inside the airbrush bowl. Thanks.
yeah but it can ruin o-rings. I use acetone.
Some people shoot solvent through the back. Is that necessary?
Followed the link for the red pot on Amazon……out of stock and don’t know when it will be available again😢
Great tips where did you get the one on the left looking at back of your bench also the airbrush holder the little chrome one
The airbrush holder is made by Hobby Mio but they're sold out everywhere. Not sure what your asking about in the back, clarify what it is your asking about 👌
Sorry cleaning pot
What do think about the 3 gallon central pneumatic air compressor from harbor freight for airbrushing
My buddy uses one but it's loud and he keeps it in a separate room.
Thank You for the very informative video.
I just got a compressor airbrush combo and haven't used it yet.
What about Acrylic paints is it the same process?
I used to do a lot of high end finish work on homes and I was having lunch with the painters 1 day and I asked them why they cleaned out their spray guns with lacquer thinner and then turn around and clean them with mineral spirits?
They told me that the lacquer thinner is used to clean but the spirits were used to save the O-rings inside their guns because the lacquer thinner would dry them out in just a matter of a few weeks if they didn't chase with mineral spirits to lubricate the seals so they didn't crack.
I'm wondering if the same would apply here?
Before they started spraying paint they would just chase out the mineral spirits with lacquer thinner to clear the gun of the slight oil residue.
Any thoughts on this style of cleaning or is it a bad idea for airbrushes?
You can use the same process here. I keep mineral spirits in stock. However most if not all of my airbrushes have solvent resistant seals and O Rings. So far I've had no problems with failing seals in over 3 years. But I don't see a problem with that. With acrylics I flush with super hot water. Then a universal acrylic thinner. You can also use Simply Green or a window cleaner too. Check out my video on making your own acrylic airbrush cleaner and thinner.
Nice vid again! What would you use to clean the acrylics like ak , vallejo, mig ?
he uses hotwater. he heats water up through coffee maker/etc and pours the hot water into a insulated thermos, immediately flushes it couple times, does the trick for him. i forget if theres anything else he uses adfter the fact/inbetween colors etc.
Like he says here, plus I would flush it with a universal acrylic thinner at the end
Just use acetone
What quick disconnects do you use on your airbrush?
I use this one
amzn.to/3p0mqmV
Excellent information. I don’t do models and gunpla.. (altho I remember doing it with my older brother as a kid). I make tumblers/sippee cups and I enjoy going out of the norm for my artwork. Airbrushing is a step up and I find it relaxing. Thanks for sharing 👌💯💯🙌
I used the airbrush to put some overly fancy light/med/dark indication on my bhg fliptop clear coffee boxes after the sharpie labeling proved insufficient. They're now a joy a look at every time I go to make some coffee, even though they deserve a 2nd draft due to some masking errors on the text.
Loving the content Rex. You along with some of my friends have inspired me to try my hand at airbrushing. I ordered a starter kit from SprayGunner.
I know I'm dating myself here, but those dental brushes reminded me of the tiny "nuke" fake drug packets in RoboCop 2. If you've seen it, you'll get the reference!
Off topic for this video, but do you have a recommended brand of acrylic primer for a newbie using them on board game minis? Thanks man!
My favorite acrylic primer is Stynylrez. You can get them at Spray Gunner. Please use my affiliate link in the description for airbrush supplies
I get all 80s references, I'm 56 years old
@@barbatosrex9473 Unfortunately, they are out of stock on a lot of primers. How does it compare to Pro Acryl primers? You have so many products on your shelves, I dont know how you keep track!
@@GraphixJunkie I have Pro Acryl primer but I never tried it. I will today and let you know. Stynylrez is also on Amazon, Micro Mark and Mega Hobby. Use Barbatos10 for a discount at Micro Mark
I hate how greedy Harder and steenbech are. You have to buy a cup cap seperate, tools to take some parts off seperately, different size cups seperately bla bla. Also I found out that back washing is not good for their airbrushes. Paint rests will travel everywhere even as far as to the airvalve.
What are those things at 22:59 ? where can I buy them, what are they called. Thanks !
Those are dental brushes. G.U.M. Is one brand name for them. I have a link to them in the description below the video. Also here's a link to them
amzn.to/3oBmZXF
If you just want the red top to hold your PS-290 try turning it around and sliding the handle (?) into the holder.
That’s what I was thinking.. maybe it changes the height too much 🤔
Oh dang I think you meant upside down. I meant just flip it backwards lol
I have the black pot and it's fine. However, I am impatient so I spray my airbrush into a large wide mouth plastic container.
Another good video but it would have been even better if you could have covered any special requirements for paints other than water based. I have the pot with the black cap and the airbrush holder doesn't hold airbrushes with a MAC valve very well. The hold gets in the way of the valve. I also like to fold up some paper towels and put it in the jar along with some water to absorb most of the paint to make disposal and cleaning easier.
He didn't show water based, but you can use the same technique just different cleaner
Excellent!!! Thanks Man!!!! Always appreciate more knowledge & tips!!!!! 👍😎😃🤘

Looks like the Iwata brush is in their needle package.
I would’ve appreciated if you would’ve went a little more in depth about what the needle juice actually is and how it works in relation to cleaning it shows that she wiped it off, so what is the purpose of that if you’re going to put it on and wipe it off I’m just not too sure what the needle just is for? It’s a bit confusing especially for a beginner, and might be a little too confusing at times especially when you’re talking about Accutane and lacquer thinner wouldn’t just normal airbrush cleaning fluid cover both of these instead of having to switch between both that you are using?
Great vodeo. Where can i get your mecka paints i just want a couple of colors from you to start out with.

So no airbrush cleaner is needed?
Nice new intro, did the old one die with the PC? 😁
Died with the PC. Haven't had time to extract the files of it yet so I made this one quick. Everything was done on my phone. Lucky I have a Galaxy Note, it's powerful enough to do this stuff
Alas, the red pot is UNAVAILABLE
I don't realize the power of CZcams, I've gotten many products sold out 😕
Rex, your Mecha paints link is not working. Just thought I'd let you know
Try this

Ive been using mine for like a year...never knew you were supposed to put water in it... guess i've been enjoying the sweet sweet fumes of paint thinner all this time... :/
😬 Oh no
Same here, luckily I store mine outside so no ethylacetate sniffing afterall😅
Why is the shipping price so high. If I buy one color. Your asking for 10.75 flat. that's next day air prices at the post office?
What color do you want?
this video looks way cleaner and crisp..what happened ?
DO NOT BACKFLUSH! this is a go-to way to damage your seals, most notably your needle packing screw.
Iwata strictly advises against backflushing, its not good for the longevity of your brush.
This is coming from somebody who airbrushes avidly and works at Iwata
eh old soundtrack i liked better
It will be back, just have to recover my hard drive
