  • VS Guild Wars 2 in 2013 - Presenting: the first trailer.
    I never would have thought my life would get to the point where the idea of doing a study of a video game trailer would be such an exciting prospect, but that's exactly what happened this morning. Enjoy and let me know whether it was worth the time!

    I had a section on it that I cut out in the end: The trailer shows the central area. The great lodges dont have their respective giant animal heads over the doorways, and there are more beams about than at launch. But the fences with random weapons on them and barriers are still there!! Hope this helps.

    hello, i am from the future. Guild wars 2 will grow so much, you cant even imagine how cool and big it gets, you get a new class, you get 3 ELITE SPECS that are kinda like new classes or subclasses for the origin classes, you get mounts??!?! like you get an actual flying dragon to fly around with and a griffon that u can use to go super super fast! you get to kill so many elder dragons, and omg there is so much for you to still experience, just keep at the game and im sure you will have a blast!

    old version of the Black Citadel looked far more like a city than the one we got. The one we got is a bunch of poorly thrown together assets, like canopies halfway intersecting doors, and massive city gates with no defined edges. It has hardly any housing, apart from the Hero's Canton, and the Canton behind the staging area, and just looks like a theme park.

    I believe WP is spot on that that was likely Zhaitan's (no google.. I did not mean Shaitan. Who the eff is Shaitan?) original model. It would seem that the explore modes are intended to take place chronologically after the story mode. The deceased dragon on that old explorable map was very likely Zhaitan's corpse after his defeat. I wager one of the paths originally had a focus on delving into his body. Perhaps to defeat something lurking inside. His still beating heart trying to reanimate his slain corpse? Some kind of second in command? We may never know. I'm guessing they decided to scrap it partly because they in the end agreed it was silly to so openly show the corpse of their flagship vilain and also partly due to his radically changed appearance.

    The scenes from the trailer that is supposedly going to be the grove or at least a sylvari area looks a lot more like the maguuma jungle area you could find in guild wars 1 with the huge root bridges and was what initially got me so excited to play sylvari when this first launched. I really do hope they bring that sort of concept art into the actual game when you get to explore Magus Falls and Maguuma Wastes, potentially in the second pale tree you hear about in the sylvari storyline. Would be interesting to see if they decided to bring that orginial plan for that instead as it looks a lot dryer and more like the maguuma jungle from guild wars 1

    Most exciting thing for me was the dead dragon - up to now I never thought of it again! But now, seeing the old map of arah and comparing it to the trailer, there are a lot of similarities. (Also take a look at the oily surface on its wings, it's a lot like the ones you find in Orr). And you can also see the front paw on the map (but strangely not the head.) There's also water next to the dragons body and the whole greenish lights and stuff make it look a lot like Arah.

    To clarify the “LA looks like an island” Look at DR there you really still see water around it but there are no maps around it. At LA is seems they had water around it but took that away. The north entrance (Gendarran fields) there is this little pool of water with even a wharf. The entrance is over the water but then (looking on the map) the water is just a little pool. It really looks like they took out the water and place some cliffs on it's place to make it a separate (instanced) area.

    As for the corpse of the dragon, first thing I thought was Dragons gullet from GW1, but it would be super awesome if there was a new arah explorable taking place inside the corpse of zhaitan, to finish him once and for all, eg. destroying his heart or something like that.
    Definitely keep this series up.

    At one time I decided I wanted to recreate Lions Arch in Minecraft. This was before any information about it had came out, and I was looking at everything, from trailers, to screenshots and everything else I could find to map out the entire city. I very vividly remember the blue cloth, and even recreated them and I was very surprise to go ingame and not see them the when they seemed. They seemed to cover pretty much the entire market area, from one side to the other.

  • @kalin1993
    @kalin1993 Před 10 lety +1

    They really should think about adding the original rata sum, grove and black citadel areas in some other areas, i mean we have yet to see a huge part of the jungle to the west so it leaves alot of space for the grove area and a hidden (genious) asuran city that wouldn't drop amazing design for practicality (just plonk all the NPC's in one room for gods sake and leave the visuals alone), also the charr homeland to the north. So many chances for these to reenter the game in all their glory.

    Great video!! It's cool to look back to things like this and draw comparisons. I can't help but be sad about some of the things we don't have though, especially Rata Sum. I like the idea of some other Asurans appearing though, it would create even more conflict within a very divided species.
    Also, I LOVE it when you compare things to the first game. GW1 was one of my favorite games, unfortunately I never really got to play it very much so I know little of the story. If you get the time, I would love a series of videos on factions and NightFall, like you did with Prophecies, explaining the story. Some new mysteries videos would to awesome as well.

  • @daefaron
    @daefaron Před 11 lety

    Oh, about the giant sea monster. You never see a live one ingame (so far), but you see skeletons of that race all over. "Chompy" in the pirate jumping puzzle in LA is over that race, the Priory has a skeleton in their instanced HQ, and I believe a few are about Orr.
    Perhaps we'll see it ingame when they start doing stuff for the underwater dragon?

    I think The Grove area may have been more heavily influenced by what's in Henge of Denravi in the first installment. Switching to a more vertical design in that city certainly frees up more space around it and it makes sense for a tree which is, after all, vertical.

    Wooden Potatoes,
    Thanks for all your great vids. They have helped with my immersion greatly while playing GW2 which is something I never get into! TY!
    Have you seen Mark Pitrie's 1 hour cinematic with two GW2 cinematics put to his epic music. One is Embolden I think; which is so amazingly beuatiful and I think put over this material you are talking about in this video though I may be wrong. Nonetheless check it out. It's so beautiful and well done. The other is his song Covenant but the footage he puts it over I have not a clue which cinematic is used. It seems like a mix of footage. I would like to know where we can get the raw cinematics themselves if available.

    I think perhaps the dead dragon could have been what you were talking about the "real end" of the arah story mode: we put zhaitan down, then we go down into his guts and tear his heart out! x) Considering the region on the map ( the 5 or 6 pillars, like rays of a wheel, and comparing them with the towers around zhaitan's tower... it could match...)

    @DubiousDoodad Před 11 lety

    I'd like to mention that the shot of the field in kessex hills around 6 minutes in is indeed as big as they showed in this trailer. However, in the trailer, it seems as though the field of view is set pretty high, a lot higher than we can actually get in game, unfortunately.
    But this higher field of view differently makes this already open area look a lot more vast than it really is.

    About the Lion Arch thing, I think the only explaination is that LA in the trailer is the one before the Zhaitan rise where LA get flooded. Where the LA in the current GW2 is the one after the flood, so we could see the ship and buildings are wrecked and kinda rebuilt.
