Our parents and the adults we look up to can have such an impact on our lives, but unfortunately, that impact is not always a positive one. This storytime is one that takes a journey of emotion through the story of an incredibly brave and resilient young woman.
Sydney's father was always sweet and kind to her, but her mother was always angry and hurtful to her - a mean Mom - and her Mom's angry words, the verbal abuse, sunk in and made her feel bad about herself. Telling her daughter that was not good enough, that she regrets the day she was born and turning common mistakes all children make growing up into horrible and traumatic experiences, Sydneys Mom was a parent bully and had no idea what she was doing to her daughter. It's hard to image a Mothers Day in Sydney' house.
Bad parenting can negatively effect relationships and mental health. Hard parents, in her case, a mean mom, laying on a full on attack to her self-esteem, took Sydney to a very dark place. This is NOT a case of tough love. It lead to depression, sadness, fear and anxiety.
With her self-esteem damaged, she began hurting herself. Her bad Mom's actions, led Sydney to physically cause pain to herself as punishment for being the terrible, disappointment of a child her mean Mom told her she was everyday. A bullying parent is the last thing that any child would want to deal with. Victim is the textbook definition for Sydney in her abusive home.
But in the end, with professional therapy, counseling, help and support from professionals, friends and family, she found that her true self was not the girl her abusive mean Mother made her feel like. But she was a strong, proud young woman who could overcome anything!

Man I feel so sorry for everyone who can relate to this. I showed this to my mom and she got a little emotional. She said if I could afford it financially I would adopt every human who feels neglected by their mom. I'm very blessed to have a mom who's an mom to everyone she meets, even my own friends.

this is exactly how i feel, my mum is exactly the same. she can slap me when shes really really mad. she calls me stuff and says stuff to me. my dad isnt really trying to help me or my mum, probably because theyre divorced. but whenever my mum and i go out shopping or maybe go to a restaurant shes a completely different person, shes nice (but still really embarrasing when she laughs really loud) but when we come home again shes just like normal, screaming at me
edit: so its been like at least 5 months since i last saw her. ive been doing kinda fine without her. sometimes i think about her, and sometimes i even miss her. but i have friends now, and i have fun with them. i couldnt have friends before because i was always tired and felt like i didnt even wanna live. but i decided to stop going there, and i stayed with my dad. now im feeling much better than i did months ago, back when i lived with my mum

My brother goes out all the time and he’s only 16. I’m just now a turned 21 year old and I work my ass off in the medical field and all my money goes to her. I pay the bills and insurance , I don’t have my own vehicle I borrow the truck or van to go to work and I’m forced to put gas in each twice a week. My mom doesn’t give my brother any harsh yelling like I receive from her telling me I’m a worthless piece of shit and I’m stupid , lazy , ugly , no one is ever going to treat me right etc. I want to move out but I’m stuck , since all my money goes to her I can’t even get myself a car. My job is hard and I tell her about it and she yells at me “you bitch too much when you don’t do shit”. I’m her oldest I would think she would in fact even help me even more to try to move out or help me go back to school like I want but no. I’m never allowed to go out and if I do eat I have to go buy for the rest of the family which is 9 people. Like exactly right now I’m wanting to go see a friend during lunch break and instead of letting me go she yells at me that I have three bills to pay today and to get to it and counting all the bills in total I don’t have enough money but if I don’t do it she beats me and tells me I’m worthless and can never do anything right. I have a miscarriage at 18 and she makes fun of it. She said I would be a shitty mom anyways. I don’t think she understands how much she’s slowly hurting me and she still hits me and beats me to this day. Last year I tried to commit suicide and started cutting afterwards and she laughed in my face and said I just want attention and I’m not going to get it. I just hope things get better. I’m tired of crying myself to sleep and wishing for my life to be completely different. Please be nice to others you meet or speak to , you never know what is going on I’m the home they love in or what they deal with.

Once when I was like ten my friend was going through the same thing. Once in the summer, he took off his sweater but his shirt was stuck to it so it lifted up aswell. He had loads of bruises. He did boxing so I thought it was just that, but not until he didnt want to go outside, go out with friends and that. He told me that ever since his parents had divorced, his Mom had been really abusive. He always preffered to be with his dad and step - mom. He said that she hit him with the vaccume cleaner and slapped him and said stuff like "Why cant you be like your brother?" and "I dont love you at all." He had kept it a secret for two years! He said that his mom said that if he told he would be abandoned. Keep in mind we were only nine and ten. It took alot of encouragement, but one day we told our teacher. His mom is now in prison (she was an alcaholic and was found to be a drug addict too ._.) and he lives with his dad and stepmom! They had a little baby girl! He is happy because HE TOLD. Dont keep it inside. Nobody deserves to be treated like nothing.

Makes me grateful that my mom was never like this to me. She always took care of me, taught me, and made sure I had everything I needed, always. I love and adore my mother for life, and I fear losing her so much.
Watching these story’s get me in the feels I’m realizing how lucky I am to have a great mom and dad they’ve done so much for me and I’m in debt to them I feel terrible for every time where I’ve hated my mom because at least I have a mom that cares about me and I don’t get to see my dad often because he’s usual working but he’s still a great dad I can’t ask for anything more
I understand how she feels. The only problem is that it was both of my parents. My dad was physically abusive and would constantly slap and hit me. My mom was like in the video, emotionally abusive, calling me slurs, a disgrace, and even said she wish she killed herself so she didn’t deal with me. I have lived 3 years “on my own” because I don’t have any support. I taught myself things that my parents should have taught me but u learned alone, like cleaning cooking and doing laundry. I live with my mom because out of the two my mom is better. But most of the time, when she isn’t abusive, she is working so I live half of my life alone and half in misery because my self esteem is passed gone. My parents are totally strick and they don't even allow me to hang out with my friends or go to party they don't allow me to go out of home after 5pm and they always want me to study all time to get good marks. Amy Laircey thank you a lot. I don’t have any siblings but I do have something worse: half siblings. My dad has had 2 other children before me, all having different mothers, and wants another!! He had his first kid at 18!! My half sis is almost 30!!! Yes, he did grow up in Ecuador but it does not warrant him to be a cheating asshole who moves on to another child after they turn 13. I was born when my half sis was 13 and when I was 13, that’s when he wanted a new kid. It’s like we get to an age where we become worthless. However, I’m glad I didn’t get the same treatment as my half sis.
She was beaten by both her parents and her life was much more strict than mine. It got to the point where she actually called the cops on my dad once for abuse, even though they didn’t do anything. Our family is far from good
My mom justifies this behavior by saying that she had a rougher childhood (she had no father and was poor) but nothing can justify hurting a child, physically or emotionally. And yes, sometimes she is really nice, but other times are nightmares. She is like a light switch between good and bad. And she says that I “fake my problems” and I don’t “understand what a rough childhood is” YES I DO!!! She is just to blind to see what she is doing to me!

I have a friend with the identical situation except she never self harmed but her mom is verbally abusive and her dad is loving. As the bff of 8 years what can I do to help her?
Just ask her. If there's nothing you can do, just stay by her side.

Well I did and there isn't anything I can do. We plan that when we're 18 we'll move out of country and live together so no one can hurt her again. That's the only happy thing she has to look forward to. I just wanna make her happy and everyday I give her as much love as I can even though I live 4 hours away.

When I was 10 I had gone through a lot of stuff. So much that I have gotten rid of depression and grew an entrepreneurial spirit at that age, My parents have no idea that I even gone through these things, but now at eleven years of age I'm just going to enjoy the rest of my childhood and IF you are a kid going through depression just don't try to impress your parents by doing something like making a business if you don't deal with it correctly you may not be able to handle it so enjoy your childhood.

I feel the same. Your life is just like mine. My mother used to say so much to me, she said she hated me and she wished I was dead. She used to say that she didn’t mean it, but she said them so many times I didn’t know what to believe, so I started to self harm. I became depressed and hated myself. It still happens but I’m not self harming because I know that no matter what I am worth it! No matter what anyone says! I matter!
