Tina never knew what it was like to have a truly normal family. Ever since she was young, for as long as she can remember, she had a dad who was never there for her.
She has a wonderful and amazing mother, who has always been there to comfort and support and love her, but she simply can't say the same for her father. Her dad drank too much, and it was a real problem that has caused a lot of pain and done a lot of damage.
Having a dad with that kind of problem made it so that she could never act or feel normal, or do the typical things that kids do - like having friends over, because she was always nervous that her father would embarrass her, or being out and doing things that a lot of her friends got to do with their dads.
She was often jealous of her friends because they had dads who were there for them, who were a part of their lives, and her dad was rarely a part of hers. He was hardly ever home, and when he was home he wasn't in his right state of mind.
And even when he was in a "good" state of mind, he shut Tina, and her sister and mother out of his life. He would jus stay in his room watching tv or playing video games almost all of the time that he spent at home. It got to the point where she felt like she had been replaced by his gaming computer. This really hurt her and gave her low self-esteem because it made her feel so unimportant.
The way her dad acted and the way he was toward her, broke her down. Most days she was afraid and unhappy to come home because she knew she was just returning to a torn and broken family.
One night she was sitting at the kitchen table doing her homework while her Mom cooked dinner, and they suddenly heard her Dad teasing her little sister upstairs. His words were slurred and he was yelling.
But then a surprising thing happened, her little sister obviously couldn't take it anymore and she screamed at him to stop, screamed that she knew he had been drinking. Tina and her Mom were in absolute shock that her little sister had stood up to him. No one had ever done that before.
That's when her Dad really blew up - he yelled back at her little sister and accused their Mom of telling lies and turning them against him. He stomped downstairs and yelled nasty things at her Mom, then took a glass bowl and smashed it on the floor - looked coldly and angrily at Clementine - and stormed up to his room.
After that they all just stayed out of his way and he avoided them, for the most part.
But, a few years later he was taken to the police station. He had never physically hurt Tina or her sister but he had been so mean for so long, and said so many awful and damaging things, that by the time he was arrested she actually felt a huge sense of relief watching him being driven away by the police.
After he got out and had spent a month living with his own father (Tina's Grandfather, Grandpa) he came back home, and promised he was better and would be a good dad again. But that didn't last very long, and soon enough he was at it again.
This time though Tina felt stronger and she began to stand up to him when he was at his worst. She told him "This isn't okay and I would really appreciate it if you would try to quit!" But he didn't listen, and those few months after he came home were some of the hardest times of her life.
Then one day, her Mom had finally had enough and she kicked him out, right then and there, and then filed for a divorce. Tina thought to herself, my Dad was never there for me.
Mom and Dad divorced, and her Mother did all the parenting, and Tina has been slowly recovering, and, though it has taken months and months, now she knows and truly feels how important she really is, and that she matters, to her Mother, and her sister, and her friends. Now she could have a better life.

Your story is so similar to mine. My father left me when I was 5 and my sister was 1 year old. He is alcoholic and tortured my mother after drinking. At last when we were about to leave my father's home he told my mother that he will not let three of us live a joyful and normal life. At first we didn't get what he was up to. He tried to kill and threaten my family in several ways. As he was so influential man in politics and other "illigeal areas". It is so hard to stand against him. He make law, police and court favorable for him so we are afraid to go to court. He is till trying to destroy us for no reason. Now his impact decreased. His actions lead us to financial crisis and he tried to ruin our education. I know that one day everything will change and I will stand and protest against him for this injustice.

I can totally relate to how this girl feels. My dad was very abusive to my mom for sixteen years and they got divorced four years ago after my grandpa’s funeral. I am the middle child and my dad would always blame things on me because of it. One weekend I was in a fight with my sisters and my dad just snapped. He physically abused me, and the worst part was that my sisters were in the same room with me and they just watched my dad beat and almost suffocate me. I didn’t say anything to my mom because I was scared she wouldn’t believe me. A few weeks went by and she reminded us it was my dads weekend. I finally got the courage to tell her what happened and CPS was called. I haven’t visited my dad in 3 years. Well, I only come over to his place for Christmas but that’s about it. I still love my dad a lot, but he refuses to get help. I hope my dad can change his mind and get the help he needs, because he’s hurt my family, and himself.

I was brought up by my 2 uncles who are 63 and 81 and we are German and my older brother lives with me and my uncles too we speak English but with a German tone on it. Yea your lucky you have a mom I don’t have parents I only have my uncles and older brother we are all German.

My dad is the same way! He is one of the greatest people I ever knew, but he is rarely home. My mom and siblings talk poorly of him when he’s not home, but I love him more than anyone. My older brother had taunted me saying “Mom and Dad are gonna divorce” but I tell him it’s not true, even though at any moment my mom could write the papers. My dad was in the military for most of my life, so my mom raised all of us on her own, making money off of teaching. When my dad is home, he makes sure to spend time with all of us, though every night he’s home, he kisses me goodnight, and he’s gone the next morning.
Why do they talk poorly about him? If you don't mind me asking. He seems pretty great.

I know how it feels like, I never got to see my dad. He died when I was 2 years old. I mean I got to see him but I don't remember him cause I was a baby. I have a picture of me, him, and my mom at the park before he died. As I got older, I realised he wasn't there anymore. I was confused. I missed him. He used to sing a song to me everyone night. I missed that. I still cry sometimes if I think about how life would be life he still was here, he did drugs, he fought with my grandma and grandpa often, thats what they said. But I love it just how it is cause I know people are there for me no matter what! Also, I have my grandpa, who is like a dad to me. My mom doesn't live with me so I live with my grandma and grandpa, other grandma, uncle, and 3 pets. I realised that life soon gets better. I realised I will soon get to see my dad again in Heaven in a long time.

Moral to this story: Tina's dad shall never become a father to his wife and her kids.
My dad died when I was six years old and I am still recovering, and when you said the part where your friends had great dads that would would spend time with them and things like that, I feel the same way even today. And the way my dad died was because... well he decided to do bad decisions in life, like smoking and drinking
I feel so sorry for anyone who has or had a terrible Dad I know exactly how you feel . My Dad was the type of guy who when our pet cat was run over before he buried it he told me and my little brother to come outside to say goodbye Sam our cat was in a pillowcase anyway Dad told us that to say a proper goodbye we should open the pillowcase and that Sam was just sleeping so I opened it and it was like a bag of blood and bones a horrible sight me and my little brother both started crying which made my Dad howl with laughter . I remember too the dog we had when I was about 7 or 8 he done the toilet in the house one day and Dad was going mad so he took him outside and we never saw him again .When I was a bit older I asked Mum what had happened and she told me that Dad had hung the dog from a tree in our garden .My Mums American so being an only child when my Nan died she had to go home to organise the funeral and make sure things were alright . Dad was supposed to look after us but as soon as Mum left he was gone so for a week an 8 year old me had to look after my 6 year old little brother who has Aspbergers and my little sister who had just turned two . Between the 3 of us there are over 100 maybe close to 200 cigarette burns on our bodies my Dad was a horrid man . I think the problem was because we were reasonably well off and had a nice house from the outside everything must have seemed fine but maybe if we were poorer social services would have helped . Sorry x a million that this is too long and it's all me me me but I've never told anyone this before . I left out loads of really horrible stuff that happened but it's still too long sorry 💗

This is like scarily similar to what my situation used to be.
My dad was a strong alcoholic and abused me, my mom, and my 3 other siblings. I remember being 10 and crying in my room because my dad yelled at the top of his lungs or he hit me a little too hard this time. He was on top of my mom, punching her chest while she was screaming. I could write a novel about everything that happened, but I’m pretty sure you don’t wanna read a whole novel lol. These types of videos always hit close to home, but this one bring back real memories. They’re divorced now and I’m in a much better place than I was a year ago. I have an amazing step dad who makes up for the past 13 years of tyranny. Don’t let up, because there’s always a ray of light at the end of the dark road.

I can relate this with my brother, he always is in he's room locked, every time when I need help for my homework, I just look at his room to get help. I saw him sleeping and his room was a mess. Then one day, while I was doing the dishes, my brother came to me and says "Do you need help?" That kinda change my life, idk, it was so heartwarming.. Thank you for reading this far, Ily.

My dads never there for me because he's a drugatic, alcoholic and he smokes. They separated 3 years ago but it still feels like yesterday. I never see him anymore tho because he's with his girlfriend travelling instead of supporting us and paying child support. My mum is lovely tho.❤️

My dad was an alcoholic and he passed away when I was five. When he was alive he had to take care of me while my mom was working. He would always pass out/go to sleep (either one) and I would get frustrated sometimes because I didn’t know how to take care of myself. My mom would leave me little activities to do everyday.(I forgot to mention I was pretty poor) My mom would feel so scared to leave me with my dad but we didn’t know anyone who can babysit me. Once he died we moved in with my grandma for 2 years. (I was 6 and 7) Luckily my grandma was super sweet and didn’t make us pay to live there or for really anything. My mom got her masters degree and got a promotion for working a lot. So now that I’m 11 we’ve had a new house that my mom customized, an amazing step dad, and an adorable little sister. I’m not trying to brag or anything but now my mom has way more money than before. I just wanted to say that if you’re going through something like this just keep working hard and something good will come your way even if it feels impossible. I hate that I know addiction so well that I somewhat pity the dad, what he did was terrible. Knowing an addict though they are suffering so much, they can’t stop reaching for the very same thing that’s destroying them inside, that makes them act in a way that isn’t themselves. What I see is a failed man, who can’t handle his suffering, someone who’s very broken. Addicts are still people and what this man needed is treatment

I can understand this becoz I too had a similar dad.. he was not a alcoholic person neither had any bad habits...but he was never there for me.. he just married my mom as a formality never cared for her and after I was born he wasn't there to see me as he was just roaming, lazy person who didn't wanted to work for his wife and daughter and just wanted to enjoy his life... I'm all here becoz of mom.... she soon realized that this person is just a trouble in our life and broke all knots and gave me freedom from a selfish person and works hard to give me a better life... I ❤u mom...and I'll surely reach the position where my mom wants me and even if that greedy man ever tries to enter in our lives I woUld kick him out becoz for me there is no one so called father.. my mom is both for me.........sorry for extending I know it's too much to read but I feel so relevied right now after sharing this heavy secret of my life.
