His gorgeous, gorgeous voice is remarkable. It tells the story of the lyric perfectly. He was a absolutely genuine soul singer. Rest in Peace Marty. Fly high and shine smiles down on us. You're missed.
it shows how much current society isn't too great when sooo many of us look back at the simpler times. but it's no joke. better music, better cars, better movies, and people were just flat out happier and treated each other better. I sure miss them days
The hardest thing for me about getting older is losing the people and bands that have been such a big part and contributor of my generation. God the 70's were AWESOME!! RIP Marty
Amen brother, feel exactly the same way. So hard to see and feel the hurt of everyone and everything I held and hold dear leave and disappear forever except in my heart ❤
Some songs you just can’t get enough of. This is one of them songs. Listening to it brings back so many memories of all the beautiful Girls you use to know.
Love it, thanks for sharing this beauty, been an anthem for me and many other Boomers since it was a new song. Jefferson Starship, what a band! Pure talent, not hiding behind digital fakery and auto tune.
I was 14 when this song came out! God I wish I could go back to those days!!! The song was beautiful then and it's beautiful now, and will always be beautiful!!! It touched my heart back then, it touches my heart even more so now! How I long for those carefree days of my youth!!! The world was a much better place back then.
Marty is in a better place without pain and suffering. This song brings backs some great and awesome memories of my childhood in Connecticut when I was 5 years old in 1978. Back then, this count on me song was frequently playing on the radio.
The story goes that Marty tried to get his songs recorded by the band and they kept refusing them. Finally, they allowed one tune that topped the charts and a legend was discovered who was right there all the time.
Amazing, magical, ethereal. What a crush I had on Marty Balin. He was gorgeous! I was shopping in a supermarket a few weeks ago, and this song came on. I literally had to stop, and just listen to it. It just takes you to another place, as your knees get weak! The piano is amazing in this masterpiece as well! The music now seems to have lost the romantic element that previous decades had. Too gimmicky, and blatantly sexual.
I was, a corporal, in The, U.S., Marines, at Camp Pendleton, Marine, Base,, I remember, the Hills, beautiful, and listening to Marty Balin, Run Away, and Count on me while driving thru , In my 78 Malibu Classic, with my beloved wife Terry!.. didn't get much better than that!
Wow really appreciate this incredible voice and the genius Marty balin that made it happen rest in peace will always have great memories of your talents
As the great George Jones asked; WHO'S GONNA FILL THEIR SHOES? SO MANY TALENTED SINGERS/ SONGWRITERS OF THE 70s THAT ARE NO LONGER WITH US, AND CANNOT BE REPLACED!
Where are the men who are this romantic, expressing love so beautifully in poetry, and song? I can't even match Marty's range, in trying to sing along. Singers today lack this level of authenticity, and talent. Wish I could have met him to hug him... So
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL !!! Marty Balin was an incredible singer with a beautiful distinctive voice and great range. He sang beautiful love filled melodies. I am heartbroken on hearing of his passing. He was always the very reason I LOVED JEFFERSON STARSHIP. REST IN HEAVENLY PEACE MARTY.
loved Marty, sang his songs all the time. JS in 1976, New Haven. Thanks Marty! and to his family & friends, my sincerest condolences. "Requiem in Pacem" MARTY BALIN
Very sad to lose such a great singer here! I remember as a toddler living in Connecticut hearing this song all the time. Brings back the childhood memories! Great singer with an Awesome voice!
Yes i agree..As ive stated many times this is a perfect example. They all got together and pressed record.. I dont know of one artist that does that today
This song played on the radio at least twice an hour back when it came out. I was 7 or 8 years old. Reminds me of docking our commercial fishing vessel and the guys on the deck playing a stereo real loud while the cleaned up and unloaded fish.
Today is a beautiful and clear sunny day in Georgia. I didn't expect it to be a sad day. I didn't know that Marty Balin had passed away, until now, when I came here to listen to this song. He was a very beautiful soul. This morning as well,I discovered that a wonderful woman,Dr.Robyn J.Levy of Atlanta,Georgia, had passed away in April 2016. She had been my doctor in 2006, a specialist, board certified in allergy/immunology medicine. I first met her after having been seen by many doctors and ER visits, where no one believed the symptoms I had been reporting, because they were not corroborated by MRI's and cat scans. (Much later on,with Dr. Levy's help,it was discovered that infection had spread from my sinus and accessed to my adenoid and was dangerously close to my brain),People kept on dismissing my symptoms and told me theyre probably allergies. Dr.Levy listened patiently to me,and when I finished talking, she told me that she believed me,and that she herself had suffered a similar illness years earlier. She picked up the phone and made an appt. for me, with Dr. Raymond Schettino,MD,who is an ENT physician. She told me that he would be able to identify and cure my illness. She was correct and I will always be grateful to her for her kindness and compassion.
Outrageously underrated, almost forgotten song. I hope, one day, someone says that to me: "you can count on me; count on my love." I should be so lucky.
I've always liked Jefferson Airplane & Starship, but lately I can't get this song, "Run Away" and "With Your Love" out of my mind. I've woken up humming one of these songs very oftn over the last month. RIP Marty.
IT IS,SO BITTERSWEET WATCHING AND LISTENING TO THE GENUINE SINCEREITY AN LOVE HE GAVE THROUGH HIS MUSIC...SING FOR OUR LORD NOW MARTY...YOU WERE SUCH A GIFT HERE TO US...ON LOAN SWEET MARTY BALIN❤❤❤
Saw The Airplane many times while I was going to college in San Francisco back in the 60's & saw The Starship at The Great Western Forum in 76. Marty & Grace were out front singing some great vocals. RIP Marty.
One of the most beautiful songs and harmonies ever written
Agree 💯!! A masterpiece by the great Jesse Barish!!
I can't tell you his name, the piano player is on several other bands records including the mamas and papas (dream a little dream of me)
One doesn't need a good ear for music to notice the beautiful musicianship on this song.
His gorgeous, gorgeous voice is remarkable. It tells the story of the lyric perfectly. He was a absolutely genuine soul singer. Rest in Peace Marty. Fly high and shine smiles down on us. You're missed.
Well said!
Yes. He's an angel
Takes me back to a time when life was less complicated and more enjoyable.
it shows how much current society isn't too great when sooo many of us look back at the simpler times. but it's no joke. better music, better cars, better movies, and people were just flat out happier and treated each other better. I sure miss them days

Great songs are always only a memory away; best when stumbled upon among our thoughts.
Well said. I agree. Great songs and times make for great memories.

RIP Marty. Your music is immortal.
Marty is in a better place without pain and suffering. This song brings backs some great and awesome memories of my childhood in Connecticut when I was 5 years old in 1978. Back then, this count on me song was frequently playing on the radio.
My life is richer because of singer/songwriters like Marty Balin. Thank you Sir!
One of the great voices of his generation.
when I die I want this song played!
The story goes that Marty tried to get his songs recorded by the band and they kept refusing them. Finally, they allowed one tune that topped the charts and a legend was discovered who was right there all the time.
He didn't write this song.

This is my favorite Jefferson Starship song, this song and Jane. Two best songs in my opinion.

My favorite song. Only for the two men I love. Dayel McCome and Patrick McClure. Rest in peace my love

I graduated high school when this song was released (1978) ,I still like hearing it over and over.
What a distinct voice.
And the rhythm is so mellow, it flows like gentle stream.
As the great George Jones asked; WHO'S GONNA FILL THEIR SHOES? SO MANY TALENTED SINGERS/ SONGWRITERS OF THE 70s THAT ARE NO LONGER WITH US, AND CANNOT BE REPLACED!
