Lyrics:
Go now
Don't look back
We've drawn the line
Move on
It's no good to go back in time
I'll never find another girl like you
For happy endings
It takes two
We're fire and ice
A dream won't come true
Sara, Sara
Storms are brewing in your eyes
Sara, Sara
No time is a good time for goodbyes
Danger
In the game when the stakes are high
Branded
My heart was branded
While my senses stood by
I'll never find another girl like you
For happy endings
It takes two
We're fire and ice
A dream won't come true
Sara, Sara
Storms are brewing in your eyes
Sara, Sara
No time is a good time for goodbyes
Sara, Sara
Storms are brewing in your eyes (oh)
Sara, Sara
No time is a good time for goodbyes
('Cause Sara)
Loved me
Like no one ever loved me before
(And Sara)
Hurt me
No one could ever hurt me more
(And Sara)
Sara
(And Sara)
Nobody loved me anymore
I'll never find another girl like you
No
We're fire and ice
A dream won't come true
Sara, Sara
No time is a good time, no
Sara, Sara
Storms are brewing in your eyes
Sara, Sara
No time is a good time for goodbyes
Ooh
Sara, Sara
Storms are brewing in your eyes
Sara, Sara
No time is a good time, no
Sara, Sara
Why did it?
Why did it?
(Sara, Sara)
Why did it all fall apart?
(Sara, Sara)
(Sara, Sara)
(Sara, Sara)

I hope some day i can listen to this without tears😢 my whole life my parents sang this to me. Rest easy mom and dad🤍 thank you for the name.
Edit: I was born in 82.
THANK ALL OF YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE❤️
82 baby here also. My goodness, your profile picture is absolutely gorgeous!
Big love to you. It’s a beautiful name. Every time they played this song at my high school dances I would find my friend Sara and slow dance with her. She and I never dated but 30 years later there is a place in my heart that will never stop loving her.
You brought a smile to my face and a heavy heart.

🥰🎼
80's music will never die. You'll never hear music like this ever again.
So TRUE!
I agree with you 100%.No way that you will ever hear music with some special feelings like that was in 80's no way!
💯 % agree how wish I could go back there
No time is a good time...
É verdade...
Some of the greatest vocals ever recorders. Period.

Man those truly were the good days. Time really flies 😢
The best
There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
Exactly
Me too I sometimes cry in my sleep remembering my lost youth
Africa by Toto is another one of those weird mysterious bittersweet painful nostalgia songs. What is it about them that makes us feel that way?
@@CJPLA This music stirs our emotions. That is a good thing!
Yes; so well put. Overwhelmingly painful, bittersweet, poignant nostalgia. I want to go back and know then what I know now.
Even the intro alone sends shivers down my spine. There is always something magical in 80's songs
Yes it just takes me back. It's a beautiful song. I'm not sure if Sara left him or what happens to her but his emotions was so deep for her
Absolutely I love the 80s
That's true, same😁
The 80's was a wonderful and unique decade......... and one of best decades of music,in my opinion, MTV, came into full force.... we got to see the music/message.
One of the biggest tear jerker's of all time.
WOW..........Anyone listening this song 2024?? The 80´= FOREVER !!!!
Me!
2025, 2026, 2027...
You know it 👍😃
Me.. my cats name is Cera.. was just singing it to her lol she was walking away from me
Everyone is. I heard this yesterday in a supermarket and it brought me here. Haven’t heard it in ages, I could listen to it on repeat!
"No time is a good time for goodbyes."
Sara's lyrics carry profound meaning, and every time I listen, I find myself falling into a whirlpool of memories, reminiscing about the beautiful moments that have passed. Whether it's people we'll never see again, things that have changed, or opportunities that will never come again, there is a sense of melancholy and loss.
Listening to this song alone in the deep night, I am filled with a myriad of emotions. It could be regret for the youth that slipped away or dissatisfaction with the past. More than anything, it is a realization of our own powerlessness. Throughout life, we never truly possess anything, and the people and things that pass through our years become a part of our wisdom, shaping our perspectives on the world. The only thing we can do is to experience this world, allowing every endeavor to become a form of experience, whether it's positive or negative.
You said it precisely. Rock on!
29 Nov 2023
Great poetic touch there I say. All songs, whether chart-busters or not, will resonate with someone, somewhere, some point in time even if late in the discovery. That's just the way the cards fall in "the grand carpet of life" as Rod Stewart would remark.
"....realization of our own powerlessness" in the vast, infinite continuum of space and time - ok, that one hits home hard. Where humanity is headed in today's tumultuous times is very much the moral conundrum of our age. Optimism is increasingly in scarce supply.
Thank you for this opportunity of reflection.
How beautiful! Your choice of words is unlike anything I've read outside of a really good book. Thank you for leaving your comment. It made me take pause.
Same with the song from Johnny Hates Jazz called Shattered Dreams.

I was stuck on duty one weekend in 1986 at Great Lakes Naval Base thinking about a girl I had just met and wanting to see her again. As I stood looking out of my barracks window at a gloomy, rainy Chicago day, this song came on the radio and it's been stuck in my heart ever since. The girl? I married her! 30 years this past June... :)
Awe that's so romantic
But was her name Sara? Lol
I've been happily single for 30 years this past June

I always listen to 80s music in the car. My son who is a Gen Z told me that Gen X is the best because we had the best music. You know it means something when your 15 year old tells you your generation is cool!
Yeah I agree, great✌️👍
Was told the same by a illegal alien... He said they loved our music back then... Then the 90s hit and the music sucked...

I would say that there was lots of good music in the 90s.
There was, however, A LOT more in the 80s.
If I tried to make a list of my favorite 500 songs, I wonder what percentage would come from the 80s? 50 to 60% maybe?
Makes me homesick for a time that's gone forever 😔
Con estas palabras me insiste que de mis ojos saliera unas lágrimas
I remember hearing this song as a kid when riding in the car with my mom. For some reason, whenever this song came on, everybody stopped talking. I still remember staring out the window, just relaxing to the music. Words can't describe how much I miss those days.
I think that speaks for a lot of us.
The music really grabs ahold of you, especially that chord change at "No time is a good time for goodbye." It is a brief key change, but it works so well in this song!
💯

Hola
Love this song beautiful this was back in the 80s starship with grace slick
Only the 80s could mix that frolicking, flowing synth sound with a nice pop rock beat.
Gone, but never forgotten.
Awesome 80s.
Mini tidbit as to why this song is incredibly powerful to me: I had my last sleepover with my cousins, kind of marking the end of that era of fun. I knew it was going to be the last one too. I got in the car with my parents, and as we left down their little country road, the radio started playing this song. This song will forever be that marking in my life for me. I can never hear this song without seeing the sun setting over the cornfields (it was a nice extended sleepover at least!) as we went down the road back to home and entering a new era of my life.
God I love this song.
That’s such a sweet story ❤

I was 16 in 1986 when Sara topped the charts. It was the follow-up to We built this city. It still brings tears to my eyes just like it did back then. Amazing what music can do even when years go by.

@John Bender I was 10 as well (my birthday's in December so I only turn at the end of the year). Great track.
Love that song, good memories.
Why is this such a powerful breakup song?? That harmonica section is so mournful and piercing. Starship was so on point with this song...plus the video was nostalgic and eerie. Just perfect..even after all these years.

I was 15 years old. From the first note and first lyric, a storm brewed in me. One of the most beautiful songs ever sang or recorded, and as eloquent a way to Express loss as has ever been uttered.
"No time is a good time...."
Music just isn’t the same today. When I first heard this song I was in 2nd grade and oh I wished my name was Sara.
These were real musicians that made music from the heart and spirit!!! Today's music is about the money!!!
@@kellyb1597 Lol! Funny you say that, girl. I work in a footwear store. A couple weeks back a young woman visited our store that was mentally challenged, but completely in the moment.
She immediately asked my name. I told her Ted, and I asked her name. He friend said she never asks for anyone's name. Her name is Sarah. 😃
I said, "nice to meet you Sarah. One of my favorite songs ever is by a group named Jefferson Starship. It's called "Sarah", and I asked, "did they name that song after you"? 🤣
She blushed and said, "noooo". I told her, "I don't know, girl. The song is all about a special girl. I think they named it after you".
She beamed all the way out of the door. They're both about 21. Surprisingly, neither of them know who Jefferson is, much less have ever heard the song. But her friend assured her they'd listen to it the minute they hit the car.
I bet you when she heard it, she wished it was written in honor of her. 😉

OMGosh! This was tha cutt! I have an appreciation for 60s and some 90s music, but maaan, nothing beats 70s and 80s, NOTHING!
This great Starship song was on the air all over Northern California as a Bay Area Sound of the 1980s when I lived there. These members were the last iteration of the band with a more mature sound fitting for the age of the group at that time. To me, it's one of the more underrated Starship songs but it stands the test of time. Still sounds great in 2023.
Awesome song can never die

Born in '74 I was almost 6 at the start of the 80's and 16 when it ended. Best days of my life musically. So many memories linked to 80's songs now that when I hear songs from the best era, the 80's they come flooding back. I swear I have a memory for almost every 80's song. Love the 80's so much that I feel sorry for kids born past the late 80's... they'll never know just how good it was.
so true
you are so right. I was born in '73 and I also have a memory attached to every song. I am truly happy that I was born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s listening to such great music. if I could go back I would. best time of my life. Thank you 80s!
1974 too! It definitely was the best years at that age for music.
Same here.....we caught tell 80's and are still quite young!! Great rime to be born!
I agree; born in 1977 and playing with my Jem doll and waking up every Saturday morning to watch cartoons were the best of my childhood.
I’m only 20 years old but I can say we’ve all had a “Sara” in our lives, especially me recently and it hurts us all. This is one of my favorite songs of all time and I use this song to fuel my workouts cause of how powerful it is to me.
I'm 19 and I've experienced it recently too. Music is a powerful tool that can both heal and hurt at the same time. Keep your head up👍
Youll get over it. The fact that theres a Sarah in every movie, every class ive ever been in...youll find another one. Not me. But another one.
@James ouch! I’m surprised you didn’t find a proxy, or surrogate, Sara, in hopes of replacing her. Many men only get 1; and cry that they can’t find another. If you only knew how lucky you are that you don’t get another Sara. Some men have a pattern of hooking up with a string of Sara’s. These men never grow up. They’re always chasing that next high, like a drug. Sara’s are addictive but deadly. They’re not loyal. They never stay. They’re abusive and destructive. They rip your heart out and feed it to you. They mess with your head. Of course they’re fun and they fuck your brains out. That’s how they get you hooked. But then they pick fights and leave you. I’d rather have a boring, stable woman any time. They’re loyal. They stay. They take care of you when you’re sick. They ignore your bad moods. They won’t fuck your brains out, but they make love to you so tenderly that you remember why you fell in love with them, and still love them after years and years of being with them
You won’t truly understand “Sara” until you’ve met the true love of your life, and you’ve been with her for years and years, through good and bad, thick and thin. Sara is not “the one”. That’s the whole point of this song. Saras always leave. Saras are a hurricane. When they cum, they’re wet and wild, but when they leave, your home is wrecked, and they take the car with them.
I hope you will find another one. There are good people out there.
I was born 1958. The Vietnam era music can be difficult for me to deal with, but 70's&80's are the best.
This Song Is A Classic Masterpiece !

why do most 80's songs has a story behind it ? really makes that decade historical genre for us 30's something and above
because things had meaning back then and today no one cares about anything or anyone it was more to life then yes people had troubles but it was so much more to life it had meaning and in todays world all we hear is black lives matter more killings more white on white and black on black crime trump is running for office against bills wife shit is a joke now days but its more serious then ever and people dont understand or have a understanding to what meaning is no one value's meaning in todays world like back then (sorry but not sorry
Those songs with a story behind it are still remembered today...thats why. Will anyone remember OOOPS I did it again in 30 yrs?
Jamie Wurdinger I've always loved this song.
I would love to see the girl who motivated starship to make this beautiful song.

Mickey Thomas played at our county fair in the early 90s, and my best friend and I had seats in the second row. About midway through the show, he asked the crowd what he should sing next. My friend and I shouted, "SARA!!!!" at the top of our lungs. He spun around and looked at us. "What was that?" He asked. So we screamed even louder: "SARA!!!!!!!!" He laughed and then smiled right at us and replied, "Ok girls. This one's just for you." And then he sang it right to us. 😱😍 And it was beautiful.
_sahra, sahra, no time is a good time for goodbye's_ It must have been a special moment. I love this song too.

Great story, Ty.
So
That's very nice of you no body , we are happy you care. Just a little side note though,it's nobody . Otherwise it would be something like , There was no body found at the scene of the crime . Not trying to be rude, just pointing it out. Have a wonderful day.
My Dad used to love Starship. He has been gone now for eleven years. We were best friends and I could talk to him about anything. I miss him so much and dream about him at night sometimes. I love you Dad!!

I saw them in concert last year and absolutely was moved to tears hearing this live! This song invokes so many memories of the past and spoke to me on a whole different level. Powerful lyrics and sounds....chills still!

Songs in the 80s captured your heart on 1st hear.
Look up synthwave. Bands and artists like The Midnight, At 1980, and Ollie Wride are great examples. You'll find many more artists that are heavily inspired by this style of music. Some with a more modern flare.

City by the bay and I am still listening in 2019
Ah, back in the day when songs weren't just about getting high, having one-night stands, being the life of the party, making your ex as jealous as possible, leading people on, or just complaining about how unhappy you are because life is such a bore.
Amen!
i bet i can find 1000 songs written today that arent about any of that stuff.
Dubstep doesn't count, bruh.
chewface you got this right
chewface
first of all, dubstep is soooo 2010. kids re into other things now. second, kids today are making music of every genere of the past, bra. like dude, stop being so old.
Even though I specifically clicked on this video, I paused the video right away because the moment the music started, I realized I couldn't turn back time no matter how much I missed it, and I knew it would make me sad. Strangely, this music gives me vague nostalgic feelings. I totally feel most of the comments here.
The intro still tugs on my heart like it did back in ‘86. The chords, the harmonica, and the family fading away @ 0:22
