Jady I hope this video goes viral! I’m from NC and growing up every single manner you mention was taught to me. I teach my kids these manners as well- I sometimes feel at the grocery store I’m the only person that shows any kind of manners… I will hold the door, no thank you. I will say excuse me no “no problem” or “sure!” No kindness at all. Adults aren’t teaching kids because they don’t have them themselves. I’ve had adults interrupt me repeatedly without an “excuse me” or “pardon my interruption..” there is no value for manners anymore. I really hope people get this message especially adults so that we can restore manners!

    1. Greetings; acknowledge the people in your home. Good morning, good night. People you encounter when out and about.
    2. Please and thank you. The magic word! Just remind them! Also write thank you notes when you receive a gift!
    3. Holding doors and being helpful.
    4. Excuse yourself, if you bump into someone, etc.
    5. Dinner time, pray, eat once everyone is together. Stay in your seat until done eating. Excuse yourself when ready to leave. Clear your spot when done. No elbows on table. Eat with mouth closed.
    6. When at someone's house. With don't touch all their things or go in all the rooms. We don't get all comfortable as if it was our house. It is important to prepare our children. We ring the door, wait until their greet us, etc.
    7. The way the refer to other people. Over 30= Mr (Sir), Mrs (ma'am). No "yeah", yes. The way they answer matters. Use appropriate language.
    Manners matter!

I have 3 little boys, and have been trying to teach them manners since they were babies, and to be a gentlemen, well we went out one evening to eat at a restaurant and my oldest (8 year old) opened the door for an older lady without me asking him, the lady told me “wow what an educated little boy, you don’t see that anymore” I felt so proud of him🥲❤

One of the most important things my kids have learned is to thank those who serve them in typically thankless positions. A genuine thank you to their Sunday school teacher, thanking a cashier at a store, even waving a polite thank you to the waste management workers or postal workers.

I live in Portugal and here it's impressive how people greet everyone and say excuse me and sorry more than required. My son adopted this habit so well without teaching. I strongly believe that if you want to make your child a kind person it is very important for them to see you as a parent do it and we don't have to teach them they will learn by watching us. I want my son to be a person who makes this earth a better place through his kindness and good manners.

Hi dear Jady, I Totally agree with everything and as you say it would take another video to teach it all. I also see here in Italy , I think it's globally now, that parents think that there children will learn manners by themselves. Absolutely not!!
When I invite my kids' friends (8and 9yrs old) they take everything out of the toys storages and leave everything on the floor, full of toys and stuff. When we are invited , (fortunately my kids don't have the habit of pulling everything out the closets or toy boxes😅) I always say let's help .. put the toys away and leave them with a clean room if you have played with their toys.
Or here in Italy, kids have a high tone they are always yelling and I always have to remember my kids to speak quietly , adults have to be able to have a normal conversation . What is not so easy at my friends house with kids!!
Always love your video's . I am looking forward for the character development video. A topic I especially cherish. Un abbraccio 💓💓💓

And putting there shoes and coat away and putting there thing neatly at other peoples homes. And respecting other kiddos toys. Collecting or holding on of their trash. I can go on and on. Lol

It’s never too late nor too early. For me it’s my version and routine of habits. Version: since she is only six she will have a hard time viewing herself being talked to as an adult would being called miss and ma’am it’s very strange. By the time child turn ten to eleven years old they need to get used to seeing themselves when they get older. The routines of habits thing it will take anyone two week for a manner to set in.

Then I moved across the world and kids were running in the hallways, touching the walls, slouching, swearing etc. It was a huge culture shock. I am now struggling to get my children to see the importance of these things. They think I'm being posh or ridiculous. My parents always took care of that when I was growing in the family with my sister. My children also have good manners but unfortunately my grandchildren and my sister’s grandchildren are kind of slipping away by seeing not very good examples around way too often. It takes even more effort and consistency from everybody in the family now… Looking forward to watching your next videos in these series! In traditional Chinese culture at the table, we wait for the elders or adults to take food first before kids take food (since we typically keep food in the center and don’t pass plates like in western culture). This is almost lost now in many families… So yes, it all requires training and repetition at home.

Great video! I am encouraged that I am doing some things right as a mom. Holding the door is such a simple way to serve another person. Even my little ones (ages 2 and 4) hold the door for others. Most of the time I remind them and I may have to help them hold the door. But it is such an important, simple, kind thing to do.
We do struggle with the kids sitting at the table and not getting up during meals.

So true manners and discipline does effect your life, in particular later in life. They learn by role modelling. ❤️ My son is just 2 and half and people often tell me that he has more manners than adults. But that's how it is because we role model it for him but at the same time, when he's upset at other kids not being like him, we just tell him to accept and not to leave his kindness and being respectful.

Great video. So simple but very life changing to the world if we all instill it in our little ones. One thing I try to teach my children and students is even though you accidentally bump into or hurt someone, just say sorry I didn't see you or sorry I didn't mean to. Then ask, are you ok and help them up if you knocked them down. Or help gather their things you may have made fall.(blocks/toys) It decreases alot of arguments.

Plenty is caught than taught. Parents remember to also teach by example. Our children watch the way wet interact with others: parents, spouse, siblings, neighbors, cashier, mail carrier, pastor and elderly. Great tips Jady! Thanks.

Oh and i have to really work on my manners for my kids. Thank you for your videos. There is so much i have to work on with my kids. We went to Target the other day and I'm really bad about telling my kids to "move". We were trying to get into an aisle and my 3 year old said "move" i was mortified. I told her "no, we say excuse me" i laughed and said "kids. I swear" but OMG. I really need to work on that myself because i don't mean to but i get so irritated and even my dad yells for us to move. It's so hard.

I have 5 kids and try very hard to teach them to be kind and polite, but I still appreciate reminders like this video. Life gets so busy and it's easy to get lazy in areas like manners. Great video and I would love to see a video on table manners!
