It's cool to see people discover the world of BR though 2049! I agree people would normally watch the original first but it's good for us the audience to see a different perspective. I recommend watching the original anyway!
It's not just a different perspective, it's a continuation of the first story
Hi Michelle and Ellie, yeah as mentioned below this was actually part 2. Part 1 was in 1982 just titled Blade Runner also with Harrison Ford. You must see it too like Viki and Lia for the beginning of the story. Part 1 was directed by Ridley Scott (Alien). Part 2 BR 2049 (you just saw) was directed by Denis Villanueve (Dune, Arrival). I agree with you guys Denis left it open ended for a Part 3 to complete the story arc. Part 2 is considered to be a cinematographic masterpiece, but it did not do great at the box office. So it remains to be seen if someone will pick up the mantle to write and fund the final chapter. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. 🤞😊
The first one didn't do very well at the US box office either which is partly why it took so long for a sequel.

yes, I corrected my comment based on his reply. Ridley did the first Alien; James did the second, Aliens.
At 24:25 it's a hidden gem scene cuz it tells you a lot about replicants. They are made and taught to feel to be not human, yet anger is strongest emotion to every single biological lifeform, down to insects (think of hornet being chill one moment and acting angry next moment when poked, that's literally hornet getting angry cuz insects switch between 2 modes - no emotion or anger, so do studies say). And this scene shows that even replicants can feel genuine anger, hence they aren't just "emotionless, soulless synthetic life" that's made just to replicate superficial human emotions.

I think this is one of the best sci-fi movies, with all the details and subtelty in many subplots and the main plot dealing with themes of humanity, love, lonelisness, having a meaning in life, etc.

You definitely need to watch the original “Blade Runner” (The Final Cut) - “2049” will make more sense once you understand the original story.
Also, Joe is a Replicant, so he would not be allowed to have a relationship with a human. What is he supposed to do: live and die alone? Even if it's weird, one of the themes of the movie the movie is Joy being his only source of happyness, and despite being an AI, she acts more human than most other human characters, which are presented as cruel and cold.
It's very interesting because we already see this happening in real life: AI girlfriends, who are not appealing to us because they are not human, but for people that will never find a partner, or have some deformity or significant physical imairment, they seem to bring some degree of company (not every human on Earth finds love, obviously, so I can see why a a small portion of people would actually be interested in that). Those people don't owe society to die alone, they have the right to find love however they can, even if it's weird to us.
The movie Her deals with similar themes, also highly recomended.
This is one of my favourite movies of all time.

You’ve been told this a lot,but I’m telling you again:This is part 2.Part one was just called Blade Runner and was released in the 80s.Although it was ignored at first,it is now considered by many to be a great film.Good reaction though.I’m glad you liked this film.
Superglue has been used many times to close wounds, especiialy during the Vietnam war. No time or resources for stictching a wound: just glue it and bam! like new.
I've used it on myself for som cuts that bled a lot. It just falls off after a couple of days, the sweat pushes it aways from the skin.
Now there are more advanced glues dedicated to closing wonds.
Despite them not having seen the first movie, I think their commentary was great! Especially the final thoughts.
It's just my favorite movie of all time... well deserved oscar winning

You guys really should have watched the original Blade Runner movie first. This is going to be very confusing for you and the story will not make much sense. Lia and Vicky watched the first movie 8-9 months ago. This movie makes much more sense if you have seen the first one.
Nah, I don't think it's necessary to see the first to appreciate the 2nd. Similar to ALIENS, they give enough exposition and detail throughout the film to piece it all together.

17:27 Even if there were flying cars, it would be just difficult to get a license to fly one as it is getting a license to fly a helicopter in real life. The FAA and EASA are very strict on who gets a license.
Imagine driving a car where one is constantly on a police radar and laser, and wearing headphones where a federal cop is telling them exactly what speed, which lane, where to turn...where failure to comply results in their driver's license revoked. Big brother, next to zero freedom.
Anyway, those who want a flying car should learn to fly an aircraft or helicopter, see if they quality. It would be no different with flying cars.

Hey ELLIE and MICHELLE, "Blade Runner 2049" (2017) is the sequel to the first film "Blade Runner" (1982). Only Lia and Viki have seen the first film. I'm surprised you 2 don't know about the first one since they watched it. It's great like this film and even better in my view. You should definately watch it.

I know people are upset that you watched a sequel but this actually is a testament to the power of Denis Vilenueve's film as it's own film. You guys did miss stuff that the first "Blade Runner" established BUT you were still engaged in the film and invested in its characters and even had insights into its themes about life against artificial intelligence. It just shows what a great piece of cinema "Blade Runner 2049" is. Yes, it is a sequel that took decades to make but on its own it's a great science fiction movie.
Yes, you can go watch the original "Blade Runner" and believe me, you're going to love it if you loved this one.
