    To answer the question as to why Roy saved Deckard in the end, it’s because he had been programmed as a soldier Replicant. His entire existence was to be a killer, nothing more. Him saving Deckard in the end was Roy’s last act of defiance to his programming, his creator, and to the world. That he had transcend his prewritten existence and became more human than most humans. And in perhaps the end, finding his own personal salvation.

    At the end Roy is developing his own feelings. The trouble is is that he’s only 4 years old and doesn’t know how to process what he’s feeling or control it. He was in love with Pris but didn’t know what that meant. When she was killed he felt sorrow and anger but was confused and the howl is a mixture of crying in sorrow or roaring with anger.

    Based on the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by the magnificently-crazy, mind-bending writing of sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick.
    The top cinema/movie adaptations are basically, A Scanner Darkly, Minority Report, Paycheck, The Adjustment Bureau, The Man in the High Castle, and Total Recall. Of these, Blade-Runner is generally considered the best.
    The genius of psychology meets-ScFi- "Philip, as your therapist, I think you may be schizophrenic..." PKD, "No doc, I'm fine, BUT I've figured out that the lady nextdoor is telepath and schizophrenic, so HER madness sometimes drips into my mind..."

    1) Is Dekker a replicant? The film suggests this, but never gives a direct answer (in this film).
    2) Blade Runner 2049 IS a direct sequel to this film, and I feel is very much worth watching.
    3) Priss (the replicant who contacted Sebastian and painted her own face) wasn't the assassin. She was the 'pleasure model' in the police files. The assassin was Zora, the snake lady.
    4) Replicants aren't stealing memories. The memories of Tyrel's niece that Rachel had were put in her mind while she was being made.
    5) The only known replicants in the film are: Roy (leader, special forces soldier), Priss (sex worker), Leon (heavy labor, hazardous environments), Zora (infiltration, assassin), and Rachel ('more human than human' experimental model). Ideas of who else might be a replicant are speculation.

    • @yasminesteinbauer8565
      @yasminesteinbauer8565 Před rokem +2

      The film in no way implies that Deckard is a replicant. On the contrary, it shows very clearly that Deckard as a human is completely physically inferior to the replicants. He is beaten up by replicants throughout the film and his only chance to win a fight is his gun. It would also make no sense at all to the basic philosophical question of what it means to be human that the story is based on.

  • @DV80s
    @DV80s Před rokem +2

    He lost his gun when he was climbing. He doesn't have his gun when Roy Batty is chasing after him.

    And the reason why Deckerd was running was because Replicants are a lot stronger than humans.

    okay, the cop who picked Harrison Ford up at the beginning... that was James Edward Olmos. You might know him from "Battlestar Galactica" (the reboot). I know him from "Miami Vice".
    "Pris" was played by Darryl Hannah; very much a woman. You may have seen her in "Splash" with Tom Hanks, "Roxanne" with Steve Martin, or "Kill Bill" with Uma Thurman.
    Joanna Cassidy, who played "Zora" (the gal with the snake)... was Bob Hoskins' girlfriend in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"
    Sean Young who played Rachael played the villain opposite Jim Carey in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective".
    James Hong, who played Chew, who just made eyes... played David Lo Pan in, "Big Trouble in Little China" with Kurt Russell...
    Brion James who was Leon, played the general in "The Fifth Element" with Bruce Willis
    Lots of people in this movie went on to acting careers that entered the limelight from time to time.

      In the Director's Cut, it's ambiguous: Deckard picks up the origami unicorn, realises that that means Gaf knows what _his_ dreams are, which means Deckard's a replicant, then gets in the elevator with Rachel. The doors close, and that's it: credits. Too ambiguous for the studio, which is why they added the happy ending and the Sam Spade voice-over narration.

    Such a cool movie.
    It's hilarious you thought Pris actress (Daryl Hannah) was a man. 😂
    Pris is a creepy character. She's nuts
    The Replicants are still basically human. However they are bioengineered and enhanced in some aspects, but their bodies are designed to die after only 4 years.
    It's tragic. Unfortunately these ones go insane and kill people in their desperation to extend their lives.
    What they did was wrong and they should be stopped. However the replicants are treat as slaves and told they don't have real emotions or human soul. I feel sorry for them.
    Replicants are capable of the same brutality and kindness of humanity.
    Rutger Hauer's character Roy proves he's more than a monster. In his last moments before his death he shows compassion by choosing to save Decker rather than kill him.
    The unicorn represents Rachel because she is special.
    The love scene between Decker and Rachel starts out a little cringe. Actress Sean Young who played Rachel has an interesting story about that scene.
    I hope you watch the sequel
    Blade Runner 2049

    At the end, he had no gun. He dropped it while climbing., that's why he was trying to get away from him.
    Sean Young, the actress in this was so beautiful in this movie. She only had a short career as she was ostracized by those who were controlled by Harvey Weinsten and those in his circle of friends, he was a major Hollywood Film Producer who was found guilty in 2020 of raping multiple women over the years. It was often said, that to make it Hollywood, you had to know Harvey to get ahead or watch your career just fade away or never happen at all.
    She voiced her concerns about the industry and the men in it but was always said to have mental problems by people in Hollywood, so no one would hire her on big productions, nor did they listen to her complaints.

  • @danielwagman9794
    @danielwagman9794 Před rokem

    Hey girls! Forgive me if I'm explaining what you already know, but.... it felt like this point may have been missed...
    While Captain Bryant and Deckard are watching the short replicant film, Bryant explains that as a "fail-safe" security measure, each replicant is given a FOUR-YEAR LIFE SPAN -- so four years, that's it, they die, they stop functioning.This is important to understand the motivation of the replicants in the film. They're not just running around doing bad things to people, they have a purpose: to find a remedy, in genetic engineering,, so they won't DIE. They're trying to save their own lives, and they're running out of time! They believe Tyrell, the head of the Tyrell Corporation (which built them) might have the answer, so that's why they're doing everything they can to get to him. Of course, it turns out that he does not have the cure -- there is no cure, no engineering fix, no remedy.
    BTW, I also don't like the ugly way Decker treats Rachel in their "love scene". But...it IS a movie, so I'd say that one scene, to a certain extent, is perhaps not well-written. It should have had more kindness in it...IMHO. It would be nice to know if Rachel has any replicant super strength so she could defend herself, maybe a gentle crushing of Deckard...😁
    Thank you Homies, I really enjoy your sharing the watching of these films with us all! Ciao!

    Blade Runner wasn’t a success when it came out in 1982, with other big films of that year like *E.T. The Extra Terrestrial* (another film you MUST see), but through the decades became a cult favorite, with the advent of home video formats, like VHS, laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray, and streaming.

    20:30 I think you found the point of the movie: there is no real difference between humans and replicants. They say they are different but that's just an excuse to mistreat them.

    Glad you see the theatrical version, that is much much better than director's cut. Director's cut vanishes the Deckard's salvation by Roy, that is the true meaning of film

    You got the version with the voice-overs! Hah! Interesting. I believe it was also the first version I saw, the release version. But later versions are much better, Final Cut, taking away the exposition and letting the atmosphere work for itself.

    Rachael is a replicant with a difference she has a conventional life span. The reason for this is in a novel by allan dean foster which is a sequel to the book this movie is based on.which explains that Eldon Tyrells sister and niece The real Rachel are involved in an automobile accident from which the real Rachel will never recover from her injuries. Eldon having never married or had children is emotionally very close to his niece and so snuggles a sample of her DNA from the hospital facility she is in and using his pioneering technology with the replicants. Creates an advance replicant of her as an adult. but with all the memories of his niece and her mum his sister.

    Hello. So excited to watch you watch Blade Runner! However, I am sure many of you have pointed out that there is a director's cut that is substantially different from this version, and has become the 'standard' version. There is also a 'Final Cut', but story wise it is story-wise the same as the director's cut.
    I would argue that the director's/final cut versions are much better. That's just, like, my opinion, man. But the sequel (Blade Runner 2049, which is REALLY good) follows that story, not this one. So you should see either the Director's Cut or the Final Cut, so you can watch the sequel.
    The sequel is REALLY good. Not sure if I said that.

    You're watching the theatrical cut. That's not a problem. The Theatrical Cut was the first version I saw, too. But if you get a chance to see the Final Cut, you should check it out. It's much better.

    Ooooh, you watched a different version of the movie! It's either the Final Cut or Director's Cut that is the most common version of this movie you can find today, wouldn't mind seeing your reaction to that one as well (there are differences on those cuts, different endings & there's no narration)

    In the book Blade Runner is based on, “Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?”, the story takes place in San Francisco in 1992. It was written in 1968.
    In 2020, with many fires in the area, San Francisco *did* look like Blade Runner!
