      His entire arc is learning to construct his own meaning and by saving Deckard and reuniting him with his daughter, Joe makes himself apart of the miracle. Roy Batty dies a meaningless life in the dark rain looking at the ground, forgotten. Joe dies in the light looking up at the sky, a truly meaningful death, who’s purpose will always be remembered.

      @@Jellybob69 I disagree with Roy having a meaningless life, his point in the end was to change Deckard’s perspective and showed him that replicants are just as “human” as humans. He knew that replicants should have rights from the start, that’s why he was rebelling. What’s different between him and K is that K didn’t realize his value as a sentient being at first, but grew to do so by realizing that what defines him is not what he is but what he does, so he decided to help Deckard in the end, making him as much “human” as humans.

    Blade Runner 2049 is one of the best sequel of the last 20 years for many reasons...It adds to the original, pay respect to the style of it and is not taking anything away from it ! The best sequel do that, it doesn't break, but add and let you go in different directions and make you analyze the original in other directions ! Christopher Nolan used the original Blade Runner as inspiration for his approach to Batman, as it is an example of a rather unreal world given a very grounded sense of realism. Also, the futuristic animated series Batman Beyond also draws quite heavily from Blade Runner's aesthetics with its hover vehicles and monolithic buildings.

    One of the best things about the writing in this movie is how well it plays with the theme of ambiguity like in the first movie. For example, regardless of whether if Deckard is a human or a replicant, the implications of the fact that he had a child with Rachel is equally tremendous: If Deckard is a replicant, then replicants are sapient species. If Deckard is a human, then that implies that replicants would be subsumed under the human species. Both of these situations subvert the justification that people have in-universe have of treating replicants as merely biological machines.
    Another bit of ambiguity is with regard to Joi: Was she truly self-aware or were her actions only done in accordance with her programming to please her owner? In the scene with the billboard, is K/Joe thinking that his love for Joi was all a lie? Or did he conclude that it was real for him and that's all that matters?

    I just wanna say, I think it’s great that - towards the end of the film - when K hands Deckard the wooden horse, to Deckard meeting his daughter, I love that none of these guys say a single thing. They just sit there in complete silence and watch the last few minutes.
    Those last few minutes of ‘Blade Runner 2049’ is just the masterpiece of cinema. Denis Villeneuve and his cinematographer Roger Deakins have crafted gold with this.

    • @pedrolins56
      @pedrolins56 Před 2 lety

      I think this scene is so subtle but its so meaninful. I think these short lines of deckard's dialog really completes his arc. He fully understands that even though K memories are implants he's feelings are very real. And then as K lays to die Deckards daughter says 'just a moment... beautiful isn't it?" and I think its a reference to the tears in rain monologue. His life/death is just a moment in time but is also beautiful. I think the snow is also a nice contrast to the rain in the OG movie, since snowflakes are unique in a way. God I love this movie.

    I went to the theater to watch this. Wanna know how many people were there to watch this movie?
    Less than 15.
    Yeah...
    It's criminal how this movie was looked over by the masses. But then again, not many people are into watching great art.
    It just shows you how people tend to gravitate towards the blockbuster movies that are action packed that give you what you want.
    Blade Runner 2049 is not such a film. It's a visceral journey and an experience. You are merely a witness. I was in awe of how the movie was made and it reinvigorated my love for filmmaking and it reminds you of the pursuit that a director goes through to develop and morph an idea into his vision. Something that is singular and truly their own. A modern day magnum opus.
    And Roger Deakins shot the film. What more do i need to say...

    I love this movie because it feels like it tries really hard to stay true to the original. It tries to keep the same gritty/dirty tone of the original, but soften it just a little bit. The cinematography of this game is absolutely gorgeous. The color scheme, the mood, the characters. I just love how this movie flows so well from the original. It's some terrific storytelling that really makes you feel as if you're clever early on only to have the rug pulled out from under you by the end. This movie is so damn good.

If Joe loves Joy, does it really matter that she's not real? His love would be real either way. Just like if you can't tell someone is a replicant, does it matter that they're a replicant? Are they not still people? They breath and feel and hurt and love like we do, their experiences are still real.
