Real gentlemen. Such men will never be again.
Don't count on that, there's still a few of us left....
I noticed the last name on your post.
I have ancestors buried in Confederate graves in Arkansas. Just curious!
No need to reply cousin.
It’s too bad motion picture cameras were not more widely in use when they were younger men.
I couldn’t agree more. Wish there was more footage available, I am constantly scouring state and local archives.
The United Confederate Veterans of America. In Mississippi - God Bless Mississippi, he says. The Body Guards of the state, be 81 y.o. the 1st of August that year!
Just amazing! I really appreciate all you do! Son's of Confederate Veterans here.
Thanks so much Mark, I wish I could share these with more SCV folks, I think they’d really appreciate them.
@@BirdDogg trust me they would!
This SCV member does.
@@markadkins9290 I need to find a way to share with their groups more, just juggling so much trying to keep up with work, history and building my first home. Hopefully soon things will lay out a bit and I can focus on sharing across more platforms. I’m always worried about the fate of history, there is such a concerted effort to erase and debase it.
Lovely footage of these Southern veterans. Thanks so much for this.❤
This brought tears to my eyes...
My Great Great grandfathers and Uncles fought to protect the Sacred Soil of Virginia. They saw the Union Soldiers as invaders
So did mine, I'm from Bedford, they were too.
I'm in Lynchburg!
@@hardhittn8063 I'm from Wytheville
@@kirkmorrison6131 Just a couple hours from me. 👍
@@hardhittn8063 Yep, though I moved to SC when my wife inherited a farm
All gave some, some gave all. Thanks for sharing.
nobody today ever asks " why didnt the supreme court ever address slavery"??? war of northern aggression wasnt about slavery anyway
@Peter Okeefe54
True that! What’s interesting is in 1860-1861 when southern states began seceding from the union, the north put together what’s known as the “Corwin Amendment”. This stated that “any southern state that had seceded, should they return to the union, they may KEEP the institution of slavery in their state..” That doesn’t really sound like the north was very eager about abolishing slavery, now, does it? Furthermore, in 1861 Lincoln himself was not that aggressive about the slavery issue very much either. When the hostilities and fighting began and many thousands of northern troops were getting killed, many many northern families did not even know the reason why there was a war to begin with and for what reasons the north was fighting.. Lincoln then made it that the slavery issue to be the main “causative reason” the north was in the fight. The irony is, many top brass in the union opposed this, and they also opposed having black soldiers eventually conscripted in the union. In addition, many white soldiers in the union army and navy opposed having blacks in their ranks. People think the union was the black man’s “friend”. Well, let’s see here.. Black soldiers were segregated in union camps; blacks were not paid the same as whites of the same rank; blacks were given less quality food rations; blacks were treated more harshly than whites for insubordination, and black regiments were often used as cannon fodder. Yeah, and schools teach that the north was the black man’s “friend”. Most schools teach with a leftist biased slant anyways and make it as if slavery was the ONLY reason for that war. Wrong. The average southerner could not even afford slaves, and rest assured, they sure as a hell were NOT fighting and dying so that the more affluent southerners COULD keep their slaves! There is so much BS taught in schools about that war it’s amazing.
Very well said and all truth to it. Keep up the good work. It's a shame what our education facilities have turned into. I'm tired of them teaching and pushing there agendas down our children's throats and we be made to feel like we should feel bad about our Southern Ancestry. Never! I tell my children all the time to be proud of who you are and be very proud of your Confederate Family members that fought and died for The South. God bless you my friend.
Just prior to the war, only 6% of the South still owned slaves. Over 80% of those who fought in the Confederacy never owned slaves nor did their families. Not all slave owners were white. An 1830 census showed over 20,000 slaves owned by other free, wealthy black men. Out of the "white" slave owners, over 75% identified as Southern Jewish ancestry. Many had additional homes in Northern cities where they would regularly transport their slaves back and forth.
@@karstenerdinger2167 Could you recommend a good book i can read that is true to those times. Cheers
Because it was legal...n the confederate/ Democratic party controlled the majority in congress until Abe won the presidency and the abolishonist/ Republicans gain the majority which the caused succession because the Democratic party was all about slavery where they created their own country know as the Confederate State of America with Jefferson Davis as their president...I will leave a awesome link ...I might of fucked some of that up...
Wonderful footage of brave patriots.
They're accents fascinate me.
Me too, diverse even with their similarities.
Wonderful as always. Really cool to see all of this footage, just wish there was more from these brave heroes. Thank you for all you do, coming from a Confederate reenactor.
I can't imagine living in a freshly conquered culture, where educated men knew their cause was right and just, but submitted themselves and their progeny to tyranny nonetheless.
Like the USA today with the same democratzi party that wanted to keep the slaves while white republicans fought to free them.
God Bless the Confederates. And thank you Lord for blessing us Southerners.
In the beginning of that video, when they were dancing. Weren't those ladies dresses awful short for those times? Good video. Thankyou.
Depends on which one of those fellers you ask I reckon, 😂
Good old Days!!!
God bless DIXIE!!!
Very cool. Enjoyed it a lot. It had to be after 1929 , that was the year talkies came in. You have any idea as to the year?
These were from various dates with the last one I believe being in 1938.
Rare gems of history. Thanks, Birddog
The good old south...Wonderful...
The rebs fought like hell with minimum weapon food or warmth, them boys were a different breed
Absolutely brilliant!!!!
The South will rise again!
Amen.
My great x3 grandfather was in the 1st Mississippi confederate cavalry. God Bless him.
Superb channel a big thank you from Olde England 🏴
Thanks!
And we still fighting against the federal for states rights. Stronger men than us in this video, tell you that much.
It was nice to see those gentlemen dace with those pretty ladies . Shows they still got it.

I'm 63 now. I remember as a little boy laying on the bed at night with my Grandpa and Grandma telling me stories.
Grandpa would tell me about his Grandpa and Uncles who fought in the war and now rest in peace with CSA tombstones on their graves.
Grandpa shared these cherished memories with me back when you could still sleep at night with doors open and the screen doors latched.
My mom and dad also had a nanny take care of us children whose grandmother ( daughter of a slave), would come over sometimes and hold us lovingly and tell us stories about the war. The one most memorable statement shared was that when Sherman invaded the South white and black families would comfort each other and prayed together for protection from the Union troops. She also said, "Unlike what you are taught in school, we didn't hate each other or be suspicious of each other and that she never saw slaves abused."
I know some people people will not believe what I say, but it really doesn't matter. The war has long been over.
I have nothing to gain by lying. Even my memories will soon enough be gone.
Is it just me, or do these two look like brothers- possibly twin brothers? One Union and one Confederate. That would likely be an interesting story. 8:54
They do sort of look similar, I am trying to research more into who the men in the videos are.
Wie unbegreiflich faszinierend das diese uralten Männer Teilnehmer dieses aus unserer heutigen Sicht so lang zurückliegenden Krieges waren.Heute gibt es niemanden mehr der diesen Krieg erlebte😔
Nice, these early pictures are pure gold. Aside from confederate bullets, Only ever dug one brass confederate item. Dug a leech and Rigdon spur in Southern Colorado, not the one with CS letters but still sweet.
Well heck it was several different years , one was 47th anniversary and on was 63 anniversary. But would like to know the years. My guess is around 1936 on the 63 anniversary.
I believe (still researching) In Mississippi national reunions were held in Jackson in 1937 and Biloxi in 1930, 1946, and 1950, Virginia Reunion was 1951, and the last Gettysburg Reunion was 1938. Again, I am still researching and always scouring local, state and university archives for more footage (there is so little available) I think I have about 15 more minutes worth of really rare GAR reunion footage for next week, and maybe grand total 30-40 minutes worth of footage of vets. Wish there were more, it’s such an amazing glimpse into the past.
@@BirdDogg yes sir it’s awesome. Sure appreciate you getting back with me and telling me. I was pretty close on the year huh.
its sad they made these heroes of south criminals today , they were just fighting for there country rip not all see you as bad , you forever are heroes and should be proud of you fighting for your rights , rebel southern brothers
They were the ones embodying a truer American spirit. Rebellion against overarching, distant, central government authority.
True dedicated men!
What's the name of the music at the end of the video?
Dude, where’s my horse.
god bless the south , mississippi, alabama
My Great People
Long Live Dixie!
I’ll take an xl hoodie 😂
