A great explanation of saw tuning. Anyone trying to tune a saw should watch this video - a big cc saw with a long bar has a huge demand for fuel when it's in the cut. Fatten 'em up.

I always like to have my saw a little rich. Once you start cutting it’s begging for more fuel. If it’s set a little rich it’ll smooth right out under load and that’s where mine seems to work the best. I agree with the way Buckin does it. Set it for how it runs best while it’s cutting I agree. Nice job explaining it all Buckin.

So I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, but the “gurgling” Buckin’ mentioned is the saw “4 stroking” you want it like that so it’s giving it enough fuel when it’s under load when it’s in the wood.

I've got a 1987 dolmar 120si that I still use every year and always have it rich on fuel and also 30:1 instead of 40:1 which was the original guide.
I think 2 stroke oils have come a long way but I also love lubrication.a few dollars on an extra spark plug or 2 is cheaper than a barrel and piston kit for old saws

    Hello Friends.
Work tune VS race tune right there. As heat builds the more fuel the engine will need. Most don't realize the incoming charge does a great deal of cooling, especially air cooled engines. One thing to check if the saw keep going much too lean in the cut is the tank vent. Some hot woods ported saws need vent and carb work to supply the engine with enough fuel. This often occurs as ones porting skills advance.
Looks like you and your boy are hitting it hard, looking good!!

I have repaired saws for a while now this was good to learn. All so I have all ways put my customers on 40 to 1 ratio oil keeps the engine lubed better it will last longer especially if you run them lean as Billy Ray said. The worst thing that could happen with extra oil is you need to change the spark plug more often or clean the spark arester. 40 to 1 = 3.2 oz per 128 oz = gallon.

I once ran a 066 for an outfit and on big stuff it was the saw. But we wasn't cutting alot of big stuff so I had them get me a husky 262xp man that saw was sweet. Just ran a 16 inch bar was plenty for what we was cutting. It was fast powerful and most of all light to carry. We was cutting alot of black oak and Virginia Pine that averaged 22 to 24 inches on stump. I am sorta new to your channel but your obviously a real pro on saws and cutting wood. One of the odd saws I ever had and ran was a 757series Shindawa. It was a brute of a saw I only used it when I had trees in excess of 36 inches. It wasn't the fastest on rpm but it made up with raw power it would absolutely hog wood. It was just awkward to handle because it had this ridiculous air filter that stuck up on top of the saw. But on big wood it did a good job.
