- The @altrarunning Timp 5 trail running shoe has some significant upgrades that make it a competitive offering. With it's Vibram Megagrip 4mm lugged outsole, EGO MAX 29mm cushioned zero drop midsole, and a lightweight engineered upper, the Timp 5 has all the components for a winning formula, but is it enough? On this slightly snowy trail run, I share my debut run and first impressions in the Timp 5. Full review coming soon, so please subscribe!
* Altra sent me these shoe for the purpose of review, however, I am not getting paid to produce this review or say anything as part of the review. All thoughts expressed are my own.

I'm a simple runner. I see an Altra review, I tap like. 🤘🏻 Great first impression, dude!
Haha! Thanks man! I'm also putting some miles in the Torin 7 and should have my full review out in a few weeks along with the FWD Experience.
Nice job! Likewise, I think the toebox is a bit more constrained (compared to other ALTRAs) but on the other hand it's MUCH more stable on forefoot with no side to side movement - some of that is due to the new more plasticky mesh upper which feels a bit more stiff - and part of it is due to the lacing lock loop which really does improve the lockdown. It's just far more "stiff" all around than the Timp 4. So - take note - not as "comfortable" as an everyday shoe, walker, hiker as the 4, but WAY more locked in with less movement and it now feels like a real trail ripper, especially with the VIBRAM outsole. I'm still deciding on best use, distance limitations but I think you have to be prepared to play with the fit. I did have a little upper delamination on one of the overlays within 10 miles of use (yeah, still an ALTRA) but it hasn't gotten any worse, and everything else feels way more durable.
Thanks for checking out the video and for the comments! You provided valuable feedback here. Thank you!
Agree with all, I sized up 1/2 and they fit great
Good take on the gusseting .have same prob with timp 4 tongue ends up way over to one side all the time
Good to hear your thoughts on the Timp 5 Chad, have you had any issues with the height around the ankle bone? I find that they rub slightly, I wish they were either a little higher or ideally a little lower, it's probably just my ankle being weird 😜
It's funny that you mention the ankle rub. I did notice it but only when I was really really really paying attention to it and it didn't seem very concerning. I'll put more miles in the shoe and let time tell, but I think it'll be okay.
Dude, where are you storing all these shoes?!?! 😂
I love the wide toe box on my Timp 4’s. Interesting that Altra reduced that. The lacing gap sounds like an awesome feature. Whatever that foot bone is, I’ve got two that are prominent and are definite hot spots in some shoes. Wish I could mix and match the features of the 4’s and 5’s.
I have way more shoes than my wife and now I have to store them in other random places and the garage because I don't have room for them all. Haha! 😆 The shoelace gap is interesting. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or accidentally on purpose but either way, it seemed to make the shoe a little more comfortable. I'm excited to put some more miles in this pair and then share my full detailed review! Thanks for checking out the video and we'll have to go for another run one of these days.
@@SeeChadRun I'm on spring break this week so I'm looking for a decent trail run!
Does it feel like the temp 4,and same length! And you don't want your toes to move around to much, but just the right toe movement!
I'm not sure how it compares to the Timp 4, but the length in the Timp 5 seems to be perfect.
I assume the toebox is still much wider then the Speedgoat 5? Also how does the stiffness compare to the Speedgoat? Thanks.
I've been trying to get in contact with Hoka, but have yet to run a pair of their shoes so I'm not sure. I can't tell you that it's wider than a Solomon but not quite as wide in the toolbox as a Topo.
Okay thanks.@@SeeChadRun
Timp 4 is wider vs timp 5?
I've heard that the 4 is wider than the 5 but can't confirm that personally.
