Ahhh I'm so sorry you had to give it up! It's such a nice medium to work with but can be really dangerous, and you never know if or when you're going to develop sensitivity. 😭 That's why I want to make a safety video, so people don't make the same mistakes I did 😷

a safety video is a great idea since so many younger/beginner artists want to start painting with oils

At 5:15 that BGM train washi tape is gorgeous. Do you know the name of it? I looked under BGM washi tape train. But it wasn’t this one that came up. Thanks for your help!! Great video by the way very organized.

Lucky for you I have a second roll of that tape! On the back it says 水彩の町 / 海岸. Google translate says it means "Watercolor Town / Coast" It may have been a seasonal tape since I can't find it on BGM's website, and I couldn't find it in Loft the last time I was in Japan. I really hope they restock this because I'm in love with this tape!!!
      Thank you so much!!! 🥰🥰

I have the same issue with Turner Designer Gouache! Not so much the smell, but the binder separation. No issues with their acrylic gouache though.

I'm glad it's not just me!! I'm completely in love with their acryla gouache but when I got the designer gouache it was such a letdown. Like it's wayyy more expensive for an inferior product. I'm trying to use mine up but it's just not worth the price 🙄
It's better to spend your money on some better artist gouache, the holbein ones are exactly what I wanted and the tubes last for a long time!

Hi - I'm beginning to explore gouache and found your channel. I was a bit surprised you didn't mention the W&N gouache either way. Now that you've had it for a while do you still use it? I got the white and the binder separation was so bad I finally had to throw it out and have been reluctant to buy more. I use the Boku undu paints along with the kuretake art nouveau set and some others to balance the lighter colors, but also to create some moody landscape and loose floral scenes, but watercolor and ink are my thing. Love your trains, by the way!

Hey! I'm glad you're testing out gouache to see if you like it! I really liked my W&N gouache when I first used it but I just haven't reached for it since! I think it's a mixture of not having a wider range of colors currently in my set (my go-to now is juane brillant/yellow ochre and coral/opera red) and just not having a lot of time to paint in the past few months. Now that you mention it, I'm definitely going to try using it again to see how I like it, and I'll supplement the colors I need with my holbeins 😁 I know gouache can be a bit tricky since you can't tell if it's gone bad until you open it, sorry you had a bad experience with the white 🙁
Ohhh yes the Boku Undos and the art nouveau sets must be amazing together!! That makes me so happy to hear that these paints pair well with other gansai tambi paints!
Thank you so much!! They're my favorite thing to paint recently 😅

Does the refined linseed oil contain some solvent in it? Helpful video 👍 i was considering Acryla guess I'll just stay with turner.

It doesn't seem to contain solvent straight out of the bottle but I've noticed mine emits a strong crayon-like odor when it dries on the canvas. I use small bottles with eye droppers when I'm painting and the caps have started to disintegrate, so it may be that the linseed oil in them has gone bad. Also in college I was taught to mix a bit of gamsol with it my linseed oil, so the sensitivity and smell may be coming from that too 😥I'll need to try out some new mixtures to make my studio safer!
The Holbein Acryla Gouache is fine if you're able to get it cheap, but I've just had better results with Turner 😅
