Jump height has some utility in the game but it can also spell doom.A slight bump mid flight and its a major spill.I've seen torn knee ligaments or achilles heel smashed too.Nonetheless, those are impressive athletic gifts.
if your vert is this insane, it usually means your incredibly fast and strong as well. When I trained for my vertical, I had to lift heavy weights and do plyometrics. I was literally knocking, blowing by and pushing people over when i played ball. If you watch Isaiah Rivera play pick up games, I remember him knocking over a bigger and fat guy like he was a flyweight
To add to the other reply above me, your tendons should be extremely strong when you can jump very high. You should be able to land from even higher than you can jump with no problem. This is something to practice/train for. Your feet also need to be very strong along with your Achilles. Essentially you should have no weak links starting from the feet/ground up.
Also look at cats. They can jump very high compared to their standing height but they can also land from almost any position or height without getting hurt. So as a jumper you should be able to land OK even if you get moved unexpectedly in the air.
@@gmaxsfoodfitness3035 I agree to all what you say.But overuse of body lead to wear and tear.I have seen hoopers in the past blow their achilles tendons doing regular hoop things (not even doing peak physical effort in a game-Kobe Bryant as an example).Im just saying that with impressive athletic gifts, one must also develop skills in the game so that you dont rely only on athletism only to bring you W's.Otherwise, you body will one day give out.
@@triggersafe1 You're also correct about overusing your body. That contributed to my basketball injuries as well. Most pro athletes aren't actually very healthy (don't let how they look fool you). They tend to get overworked in training and practice and years of that imbalanced training contributes to aging the body faster than it should (this is why they deteriorate by 30 years old not because you should naturally slow down at 30).
Former US 800m runner and Olympian Nick Symmonds has said that even though he was in peak running shape for his event he was getting sick a lot and he's actually healthier, in better shape, and stronger overall in retirement than when he was a pro athlete. It appears that traditional professional sports training and competition weakens their immune systems (one reason why you have so many athletes getting Covid, seriously it's like each season in every event in track someone's got it or recovering from it). Anyway I was reading that athletes are taught to train one extreme (yang) and neglect the other extreme (yin) which is the reason for aging early and injuries.
Mobility, good nutrition and hydration and monitoring for over use is important for longevity.@@triggersafe1

@@mariz9964 that ain't true. I've seen non athletes and young athletes who got hurt, end up outperforming their 17-25yr old self at 30-35yrs old. Just takes training and consistency. Youth has a lot of advantages but so does wisdom.
Watched a lot of lifters destroy their joints at young age due to too frequent of heavy lifting and not lifting *buzz word* "sustainably" for their body. They heal up, they come back n lift more sustainable for their form and top new PRs at ripe old ages.

The white boy Riley got hops forreal!!!❤
Hats off to a dunk at 47. I’m 5’10 and had about a 38 inch vertical. I had the glutes by nature and nurture, but there are a lot of mechanics involved. Also, I had above average core strength. I felt like I was throwing my upper body into the air. I’m 60 and jumping is what I miss the most about my youth. Every once in a while I have a dream about being in a game and I feel like I’m flying again.
I feel you because I'm in my 60's. I still want to play even after unsuccessful back surgery and 5 shoulder surgeries! It's hard when your mind is telling you that you still got it. Then your body tells you something different! Keep on Dreaming Man because you won't go to bed hurting and you'll wake up feeling fresh! I believe that the 60's are the HARDEST YEARS!
PS All my surgeries were in my late 40's & early 50's.

I’m a 6’0 white guy from Australia. I could touch my head on the rim back in 1994 - I was 18yo then. I’m now 47 and can still dunk but it’s really ugly and has zero style these days. I’ve never trained or been to a gym in fact I’m overweight (94kg) atm but I have just always been able to jump really high. I believe it’s 80% mental. Start believing, truly believing you can dunk and just about anyone 6’+ will be able to. Good luck kids!
Так и есть 🤝
Not mental. I’m 5’10 and used to be able to dunk. Started having lower back issues. It’s about mechanics, how your body is built and leg drive
Ah yes, if I believe enough, I'll just dunk it lol. It's purely physical. Can't do it, can't do it. You can train for it though.
im 44 last time i jumped got artrosis on my knees.
Some people are simply built for jumping. I’ve been training to improve my vert for many years and am not seeing much progress . Sometimes I meet people who don’t even lift, never trained their vert, and yet they got incredible hops. You can train all you want but you cannot change the limits of your genetics.

Darius Clark is OP. Bro needs a nerf. And after that nerf. Nerf him again. Just to be safe. 😂😂
Im never complaining about my height again
I'm 51 and remember back in high school during PE class when we were just trying to "get the rim".😄 I ended up with a 39" vertical at 6'1", but these guys today put that to shame. Unbelievable.
If you had a 39" vertical at 6'1, you would be able to touch rim at 11 feet.
6'1 with a standing reach of 8'1 + 39 inch vert = 11'4
These guys have access to CZcams and can do all the exercises. We had no idea other doing calf raises or wearing those shoes.
Its wild the difference between trained and untrained. Exercise science is a legit thing

The fact that #1 athlete is called Height is pretty cool
I am 5"7 with 36" vert. I know it's higher, but that's what I was measured at.
The way we measured it growing up was stand at the wall, place our magnet at the heighest point we can reach, jump straight up and place the 2nd magnet at the peak,
Running gives that extra height on a jjmp not a legitimate way to measure
