- Yet again, we are dealing with mechanical issues. Only this time, we're on the road and traveling (or trying to travel, at least).
Unfortunately for us, our mechanical issues become the least of our concerns. We honestly never saw this coming.

Hey guys! For those of you who are curious about what was wrong with the bus:
We initially took the bus into a diesel mechanic shop (Diesel Power Truck Center near Asheville, NC) because the engine seemed to heat up quickly and had trouble getting up to speed, especially on hills.
The mechanics found an issue with the brake fluid leaking that caused the back brake to be engaged at all times. The other brakes were pretty worn out too, so they went ahead and switched out the brake pads as well as the calipers. As far as they could tell, the stuck brake was probably why the engine kept overheating so quickly too since it was putting a constant strain on the engine as we were driving.
They spent quite a bit of time working on it (we were there for 2 full weeks, after all), so this update is not a full list of everything that they worked on.
It all has been working and driving great since we left though!
Are you relying on CZcams only for income?
This is literally 15 mins from my house and I've been binge watching your series since last week--so crazy!! Haha I was like "that's where I shop" & "oh that's the Bojangles that sucks" 😅😅😅 hope you guys got to see more of Candler than just the diesel mechanic shop...
What was the name of the company that did the work on your bus?
@@SheriLatulip Not quite yet... but maybe one day!
@@JamesGoodin-USMC-5963 It was Diesel Power Truck Center! We highly recommend them!
You should brag their name over and over. This shop has been AWESOME. I drove over the road truck for 32 years, these people are rare. They deserve shout outs and many of them.
I may have missed something, but they've been there two weeks and still haven't gotten fixed. This couple is pretty short on explaining the mechanical problems so it's hard to understand what's going on. Seems like if was a really good place they would be fixed or at least we'd have some answers.
I recommend getting some wheel chocks to stop the bus from rolling when parked in addition to fixing the break. They are not expensive and add another way to keep the bus from accidentally rolling. A single point of failure is not something you like to really on and using them is minima extra work when you part somewhere it might start rolling.
Thanks for the tip! 💚 These are definitely on our shopping list after this whole experience...
I second this. In fact, I'd recommend not just chocks but "run on blocks" that you can pull up on in case you have to chain up or take the weight off a tire that's low on air. Buy oak... buses are heavy.
Thats what I said. Good advice. Glad others are thinking 🤔
What a great business! Everyone needs to give them an excellent rating online!
From the deepest part of my heart. Thank you for being so genuine and thank you for relying on your wonderful personality.
It's a breath of fresh air seeing a wholesome couple
Wow, thank you so much!! 😊❤️
Think about making a boy scout washer. Three 5 gallon buckets a plunger with lots of hole drilled in the plunger as a agitator for socks, underwear ,tee shirts and shorts
One bucket wash one rines and 1 more for fabric raise. Use a salad spinner to spin dry clothes plus clothesline and pins. A lot cheaper than rolls of quarters at Laundromat. I do all wash jeans, sheets bedding and towels once a month at a Laundromat. But use bucket to do most of of my wash.
Thanks for the helpful laundry tips! ❤️ We'll be pros at using a laundromat in no time!
And if not, Jimmy is actually an Eagle Scout, so I may have to put him to work on making that... 😂😂
PS Boy scout washer.Get one lid drill hole in center so plunger can move freely up and down the lid helps keep water in the bucket.. When you store buckets after use make sure each one is dry. (Prevents mold)
I put a rock it each bucket. That makes a spacer. So bucket don't get stuck together. When not in use I put them in the shower.
2nd P.S.. I was washing my clothes at the campsite. A other happy campper stop by said she has one 3 gallon bucket with many hole drilled in it. That fit inside the 5 gallon buckets. 1 for wash another for rinse and another for rinse with fabric softener. Washing is done by put clothes in 3 gallon bucket with soap plunge lift 3 gallon bucket out of the 5 gallon bucket sit it down on grass(outside)or shower (inside) water push water out. Then put 3 gallon bucket in rinse bucket then fabric softener bucket then salad spinner. She said easier way to do it. Next time I will have smaller bucket ready to go.
Made my smaller bucket just did a load of socks. it was easier than what I was doing before. Learn something new everyday and soon 🤔 you say. Why didn't think if that sooner. Or gee after a year I have learned 365 new things. Happy campper!
my wife and i just found you both a few days ago, and we will be traveling in march of 2024 after wife retires!
we LOVE your vids we started with your very first vid (after we actually found you when you had to sell the green bus😢) and as a retired truck driver it makes my blood boil to hear about the diesel machanics taking you both for granted and treating you both the way there is NO REASON for that they have, there are good people out there and im very sorry that you have not found many yet.
you both are young and are just trying to enjoy life with a budget and these clowns what to take advantage of you!!😡
jimmy you did amazing wood working in the build and natalie you are very talented as well those window shades were a master piece, and i personally love the facial expressions when you give us updates, hats off to you both, i know this vid is a old one but i needed to comment after i heard the place u were at in the vid could not slip you in before the time they did, please enjoy your travels and hope to see you both out there! from mike and diane
Bless your hearts. I hope you get feeling better soon. And that the bus gets running for you soon.
This bus is: Mountain high and Valley low approved. After the engine check. It will run like a Firefox. Thank you for sharing your videos. Just love it. Regards
I like your skoolie bus colors! You should give a shout out to the repair shop for all their help thru your difficult times and their outstanding service! Hope you are feeling better!
The color of their bus is awesome, I have to agree with you on that!! The side door also pokes awesome with the wood and it looks beautiful with the paint color!!
Laundromat hints. Start washer wait start next 15 minutes later then dry heavy things together. Lighter weight things together. That gives you time to fold /hang clothes before the 2nd dryer to get done with heavy clothes still drying. I can quickly put damp clothes in dryer that is still running.
Hope you feel better Natalie. Both of you have such a great outlook on life. Let the JimNat adventures begin!!! Prayers
Thank you!! ❤️
What a great shop! They did great by you in a difficult time. Southern hospitality at it's best.
Well very glad you didn't go over the cliff concerning that emergency brake fail and bummed about the engine trouble... Glad they got it running again... Peace...
Your in my neck of the woods. Great people in our community here. Glad to see you all are back in the bus. I hope you get up and running soon but there are many amazing places to see around here. Good luck.
Dealing with adversity from the comfort of your home. Life is worth living, carryon kiddos!
You all are such a cute couple. You're handling this situation so well. Stay positive and hopefully smooth sailing after this hiccup.
The mechanic shop treated you guys really well, like family or very good friends.
You two are adorable! Hope you have the bus going! Have fun on your journey! I am envious of you bus and van life people!!
Hello kids,missed you,glad your are safe,be careful,have fun
Just hang in there and keep praying everything will be fine.i
Well hello. 37 foot Schoolie here, for the past 10 years. Still LOVE it!!
I'm sorry you are feeling poorly and hope that if it was indeed Covid that it passes quickly for you. Shout out to the truck shop for working with you to allow you to stay and provide transportation.
Hope you all are feeling better soon and that the bus is ready to go for you.
Thank you! We're appreciative that the truck shop was so accommodating. If you're ever near NC and looking for a diesel mechanic, they're Diesel Power Truck Center (Candler, NC)
Thanks for the well wishes! 💚😊
We’re curious about the name of the shop your having the work done. My husband is a Diesel mechanic and says he agrees your getting great service (well not the covid part). We’d like to keep them in mind during our travels. It’s nice to patronize companies that care. Hope you feel better soon!
Diesel power truck center Candler, north carolina
@TD Westcott @Jay Fisher
Yes he’s right! It was Diesel Power Truck Center in Candler, NC. They said we were not the first Skoolie to be worked on there and are definitely big enough to work on any size bus. We highly recommend them!! ❤️
@@JimmyandNatalie this is great info guys cause I’m gonna start a conversion soon and I’m just outside of Greensboro NC so these guys will probly get some of my business!! Thank you for letting us know!!
My buddy has a cabin on the other side of Franklin in Rainbow Springs and is spent a ton of time up there and I actually pass this place each time I head up there. It’s a bit of a drive just for mechanical work but if it’s a good shop with good techs and management then it’s worth every mile!!
GOOD LUCK GUYS. WOW IT'S CRAZY.
That was extremely kind and gracious of them to help you out that way. Just letting you use a vehicle is amazing. A lot of mechanic shops don’t do that!! Glad you’re back on the road and the bud is all better. One tip for the fried rice…scramble the eggs first, remove from pan, add later after you have everything else done. Safe travels both of you. Vaya con Dios!!
It all adds up to memories. Keep those good attitudes and enjoy your times on the road. Thanks for taking us along 😎☕📖✌
Thanks so much! We're happy to bring you guys with us! 😄☕️❤️
What a great mechanic shop! So kind of them to allow you to stay in the bus. Best wishes on your C-19 Test! This mess is crazy.❤️🙏form SC, Jane.
I have been waiting and worrying about how you were doing, so I really appreciated this video. How you have retained your equilibrium and smiles is amazing, despite the bus mechanical issues and your health problems. I hope someday when you write a book, this chapter will be humorous! Many prayers being said for you!
Of course! ❤️ We really wanted to give everyone an update (despite being stuck at a shop for 2 weeks). It will definitely give us an interesting story moving forward… one we won’t forget soon!
Thanks so much for your kind comment! ❤️
Hi guys just found your channel it's awesome I'm certainly going to go back to the build videos
God bless you and stay safe out there 🙋♂️ 🇬🇧
Back in my early days, I worked at a independent bus repair shop. We had a older couple that would have us work on their conversion bus every spring and fall as they were making the snowbird journey north or south. My boss let them stay in their home in our shop and she would bake us nice goodies. Thanks for bringing back the good memories.
Have fun and take care and take it easy and enjoy it
Wow, Natalie feel better and congrats on your joint positive attitudes. That’s what a good happy life takes.
Thank you! ❤️😄
Can’t wait for update!!!!
This was the first video I saw of you two. Just spent the last few days watching all the previous videos and I am hooked. Watching the build was so cool. You guys did such a great job and love that you split the duties. I love the you tubers that share all the responsibility so thank you to the both of you to show that anyone can do it all. I hope this is the last of the big mechanical problems you have. Looking forward to watching the newest video you just posted now that I caught up.
Thank you so much!! ❤️ We are thrilled that you liked it and enjoyed the build series! Splitting projects where we could helped in so many ways! It kept our independence throughout the build (and made everything go faster!). So yes! If we can do it, anyone can!
We hope too that our bus has no more issues! 🤞We are SO looking forward to getting back on the road.
Thanks for watching!! ❤️❤️
I hope everything changes for the good I hope Natalie tests come back negative and you guys can enjoy the bus life.
WOW!!! What a tough journey...
Awe so sorry you're having a rough start on your journey. Very nice that the mechanic shop is so accomodating. Don't think I've ever toured a diesel truck parking lot before. You guys made the first!! Hope all goes well in both your health and bus💖🐱👤
Life can be fun. You two are so inspiring with your patience.
I hope you're feeling better soon!
And hopefully they'll get your bus fixed soon. Take care of yourselves and each other!
Thanks! I hope so too! ❤️ We will! 😄
I could watch you two all day long on your journey! I enjoy watching your videos too ❤️
Thanks so much 😊❤️
This place seems really cool, and I love how you roll with the punches! I hope our paths cross one of these days.
We really tried to keep our spirits up this week.. thought it was hard sometimes 😅
Hope to see you out on the road one day!
I'm binge watching y'll. What's really cool is I've seen y'll pull up to a Wendy's drive thru at least 2-3 times. I managed a Wendy's in Richmond,Va. for 15 years. Was there a total of 22 yrs.
Omg guys what a whirlwind of a video!! I hope you test negative for covid Natalie!! All part of the journey I guess but two weeks at a mechanic shop, omg I would be going crazy. Your spirits are always so high which is so admirable. Hopefully you’re out of there soon!
This was definitely a crazy experience, but we'll make it through! Health-wise, I'm feeling much better! And we made it to a safe place to self-isolate, so things are looking up. ❤️ Thanks so much for following our journey, you guys are the best!! 😄
@@JimmyandNatalie I’m so happy you’re feeling better 🥰 we will forever follow ur journey. You guys are the best too!
BRO, THAT RICE LOOKED AWESOME!😍
Thank you for being real. Showing what true life is... Not all good. But both handled it great. Good luck with the bus and hope you feel better. God bless
Thanks so much ❤️❤️😊
To look on the bright side, things could have turned out way worse. bless you.
I hope you are well and is nothing serious. Is very crazy times.
Thank you ❤️😊 It doesn't seem serious for us, so no need to worry!
30 employees in that building . Holy smokes! Oh goodness 😳
FREE courtesy car!!!! How sweet is that!!! What a blessing!!! Praise the Lord!!!! It's all a learning curve when you buy a used bus. It's sure been a learning experience you' ll both never forget. Enjoy the journey, cause the fun isn't in the destination, but in the journey. Enjoy!!!! Jimmy does keep a good attitude about everything. Good thing Jimmy's around so you don't starve, Natalie. Haha
.
So true!! We're definitely doing our best to enjoy the journey, but this week the journey kicked out butt 😂😂 Thanks for watching! 💚
@@JimmyandNatalie I have a couple friends doing the schoolie with their family. I think they are in Maine now. Destination unknown bus on CZcams, also on instagram. I know they have run across a few issues as well, but seem to be loving it. Enjoy the adventure, it looks like a blast.
Ya'll are awesome and I'm so glad they were able to get your wheels back on so you could at least sleep in your own home
New subbie. Hope you are feeling better now. I already knew I'd love you when tossed that bologna in the cart. 💕❤💕
Yes! Lol 😂😂😂
And I am feeling MUCH better now. 😊 Thanks for subbing! We're glad to have you here! 💚
Wow what a curveball to get so early into your trip! Keep safe, keep smiling, we’ve been really enjoying your videos…
Thanks so much!
Stay positive!! Things will come together
Really enjoying your channel. Love your integrity and concern for your fellow man.
Nice to see you paying attention to budget and that you're learning.
Watching your videos is like I myself am traveling at the moment.
I hope and Pray that everything works out fine for y’all. Stay Safe ❤️
Thank you! ❤️ We're feeling much better, so don't worry! 😊
I think it's awesome that this mechanic shops help you guys so much they need credits
1st Time I see you two. Enjoyed it very much. Natalie your diamond Ring is Beautiful. Looking forward to seeing More.
Hopefully these bad things that are happening will turn out to be experience and your health gets so much better,
The people at that garage are very helpful and such good patients you all have, please take care and get healthy and on the road very soon,
Some people put a drying rack in a small space with a dehumidifier so wet clothes can be hung to dry which saves on spending so much on laundromat dryers.
Great idea! We may have to consider something like that...
Ha, I have a rice cooker in my rig too. Essential!
What a deal! Hope things are better real soon!
Oh gosh!!! 2 weeks is a long time and y’all are both still smiling. Hope it is fixed soon. Take care. Xoxo
We won't be here forever! ...right? 😅 (Just kidding) Thanks for the well wishes! ❤️
You guys were on my timeline this morning so I watched this video....and became smitten with y'all! New subscriber, yay. I will watch your adventures on the road and be rooting for you. Love what you're doing. Stay safe. Hope y'all feel better soon.
What a loving couple. God Bless. Safe Travels.
I am admonished! While watching your video, I pulled out the laptop and entered the last few costs into my spreadsheet. Can't believe I've spent as much as I have! Unfortunately, there is much more to go.
Jimmy, exact ingredients are next to irrelevant. Skill is everything, along with willingness. Continue to use your powers for good! 😁
Yes it all added up much faster than we expected… the number of Lowe’s receipts we had was shocking… 😅
And thanks, I will! As long as Natalie enjoys the food I see that as a success 😄 Haha
@@JimmyandNatalie that's really the only factor that matters!
Nice people at that shop, most places would just get you a cab and motel. I've been there, I drive a big truck. Safe travels and blessings. 👍
You guys have been good not to bash anyone with everything. Good for you!!!
Keeping your humility through adversity is refreshing to see and will serve you well in the future. I wanna thank your parents!
Sure hope everything is going to be ok. Glad you got back in the bus for the weekend. Looking forward to see how it turns out.
Great video and such a great attitude during such a stressful time.
Good luck will keep you and the shop in prayer and all who have been through it and their families. They sound like a great kind place.
Wow your great on camera positive vibes & smiling BUT what’s going on in the background my heart goes out to both of you!! So glad there was a place like that close enough to get GREAT Service for both of you & your Skoolie shows there are GOOD People out in the World!! Be Well Be Safe & Stay Blessed.
I enjoy you videos. You have a great positive attitude if you keep that up you will have a great life no matter what comes your way. I wish we had more like you in this world.
Well, hey, I'm gonna have to check out your other videos to get an update on how you guys are doing!! You two are seem like nice people, so I am not surprised at all of the goodness show to you. Take care.
Hi Jimmy & Natalie, so sorry these terrible things happened to you, I hope & pray everything get better and may God keep both of you safe❣️
I just happened a upon your video today, I love your bus home, great job, what wonderful adventures you’ll have, more fun ones in the future😊
Take care and God Bless U🙏🏾💗
yes thats great that they are helping n anyway possible hope you feel better
Prayers for near future good health and Monday you are back on the road !
You are definitely spitting into the wind ... Have to do what you can when you can ... Bless you both
Wow what bad luck, thank goodness you got to be able to stay in the bus, it could have got very expensive staying in the hotel.
I hope it gets fixed real soon.
Rest and heal, Nathalie! Fingers crossed for you both!
I'm sorry you guys are dealing with this. Best wishes, be safe.
Wow, what an experience! I sure hope things improve for the both of you! You're certainly keeping a positive head about things though. 🙏🤞💓
Your fried rice looked delicious! Try browning the raw rice grains, after browning, cook it like normal, then saute the veggies and egg. A friend from China taught me this.
Great idea! We'll have to try that 😊
Being a truck driver myself, I have spent alot of time at shops myself! Hopefully they get y'all going soon!
I'm really sorry to hear about the mechanical troubles w/your skoolie and I hope you're able to get it repaired quickly. Additionally, Natalie, I'm sorry to hear that you're sick sweetie; I'll keep you and Jimmy in my prayers for sure.
I love how you work together!
Wow! You guys had a crazy trip so far. Hope all goes well with the bus and everyone gets over covid quickly. At least you're stuck in the beautiful NC mountains, my favorite place, I live just a couple hours away myself, I'd offer my skoolie to stay in but it's completely gutted right now.
Well……….reminds us of our first year out. It does get better. Old busses need love, ours needed about 12k of love that first year! Since then we’ve been west coast twice Florida four times with only minor issues(normal stuff). If it doesn’t kill ya. You will be stronger.good luck, God bless.
Hopefully our luck will turn around soon and we'll have a similar experience to yours. 😄 Thanks for the encouragement! 💚
Great video! We just found your channel. I (Kevin) love the schoolies. Your schoolie looks like one that was with us in Arkansas at one of the ACOE parks. We love fried rice and it pairs well with nomadic life ☺️Look forward to watching more of your travels.
Oh that's awesome! We're jealous, we have yet to find a schoolie out in the wild!
And yes! Fried rice is cheap and quick to make! It's perfect! 😊
Thanks so much for watching!! ❤️❤️
Oh my. Sure got thrown a curve or 3. Great to see you stay positive, and yes, that place is UNREAL customer friendly. You are truly blessed, and your responses in this show your gratitude and kindness.
Just subbed, gonna watch more.
Hope everything works out.
🤞🤞fingers and toes crossed that the cost of repairs to your bus don’t break the bank!!
Take care of yourselves Natalie and Jimmy 😷 ……Glad you had “the jab “ and are fully vaccinated Natalie!!💉🦠
Thanks! I’m just glad the mechanic issues are getting wrapped up and I really am starting to feel better after a few days! ❤️ Now own to self isolate for a other few weeks… Jimmy and I are getting so antsy to get on the road “for real” 😅
@@JimmyandNatalie did the tests come back positive for COVID or negative?
Not sure I’ve met up with you all here but sending love and good vibes for your health and repair of bus systems.. you indeed have been fortunate to be in their care.
Oh my gosh I am so happy that you’re both vaccinated I was freaking out kind of a whole video worried about you. But you’re gonna be just fine I just know it and so will your bus prayers that you guys can start your journey soon and you won’t have any more mechanical repairs that you need to make.
Thank you! ❤️❤️
Okay, so I’m NOT the only one who gets exited when I see a school bus after school hours 😂 👍🏾
Keep it up guys! It’s nice to see your positive about it. But I think it’s better to experience this with your bus than in the middle of nowhere. Once your buss will get fixed, every will be great!
Good point! You're so right about that. 😊 Thanks! 💚
BTW, I really like your channel and personalities. Nice home too!
