- Hey everyone. I've been looking back at some old Five Nights At Freddy's theories and I just wanted to talk about some of the ones I remembered, and some of the ones that I found crazy in hindsight.

I'm surprised the game had so many theories given how straightforward the story was. Guy kills children, hides bodies in suits, restaurant is closed and now robots are posessed
You could theorize over specific details but for a while that was the gist of it
The guy killing kids and hiding bodies thing wasn't at all revealed until the second game, the first one was literally just "animatronics try to kill you"

I'm pretty sure a lot of theories at that point centered around what "the bite of '87" was, although that could just be me and my experience.
There was the bite of 87, the its me hallucinations, and Golden Freddy. Plus, a lot of people seemed to assume a complete story could be told from what was there, answering every question.

Fun fact: there was a third nuke launched on japan in order to wipe out the nazi animatronics, but thankfully foxy caught it mid air to protect the security guard.

Foxy being a good guy would later be kind of mocked by Scott having Rockstar Foxy mostly being friendly in Ultimate Custom Night when you click his parrot companion though there is a chance of him actually killing you, I like to think that it's a mockery of a once popular theory that otherwise was kinda stupid we all are just realizing it now lmfao

Sentient animatronic theory was one of my favorites at the time.
As much as I love the Idea of Foxy being a bro, people would stretch it so hard. In the second game, people said that his jumpscare was just him jumping to hug you. Even though Toy Chica and Bonnie have the exact same animation. Only real friendly foxy was the rockstar version from the ultimate costume night game

After being a fan of this franchise for damn near 9 years, since FNaF 2, I have never in my life heard of the "Nazi" Theory, it's as bad as Sister Location's "Adult" Theory.

As far as theories of who the killer was, I remember a theory that I would see here and there was that the owner of the pizzeria was the killer, and that the reason the job is so dangerous is because he wanted to see the night guards get killed (this usually tied in to theories that the cupcake was a camera or that there were cameras in the office so the boss could see the finishing kill). It wasn't really a theory I believed back then, but it's surprising how it sort of became true considering William Afton

I always liked MatPat's first theory. It was dark but it was good at tying any sort of backstory into it. If it'd been a standalone game, that *would* have been the backstory everyone agreed on.
Absolutely true, I even remember fully accepting it at the time before the second game was released
But, why? Like, the dev never stated in any way the game was based off of a real shooting and on top of that, wouldn't it be kinda shitty of cawthon to directly use a real tragedy where a bunch of real people died and profit off of it while not even mentioning, crediting or paying tribute to those people and their relatives, and also without their permission?
I find it extremely insensitive, especially since the lone survivor of that attack is still alive. If it had been true I think that would have been a bad thing.

Overall: No one really knew what has happening at the time, but somehow the Nazi theory was the closest.

I think my favorite thing about FNAF 1 is the freedom of expression the game had. There was no demand for lore or continuity, so seemingly random stuff like the garbled 5th night call and the poster of Freddy tearing his head off seemed fittingly mysterious without any severe implications.
most people believe that dream theory was the actual story that Scott planned for the games, with the fourth game being the final one, but since Scott knew people most likely wouldnt like that resolution, he decided to continue the franchise and basically throw the dream theory to oblivion. Thats why he said that the contents of the box(the one that appears on the finale of fnaf 4) has changed since then

I dont think that this is what happened since the og ending of the series was fnaf 3 wich had nothing to do with the dream theory and the reason why the 4th game exists is because fnaf 3 was not a major hit as the previous 2 game was so I think its safe to say that the dream theory was not planned since the first game or after mat made his dream theory. What I think happened was that as we know Scott wanted to end the series on a high note so he made fnaf 4 wich was scarier but the story already ended with fnaf 3 so he made fnaf 4's story purpesfully messy so that it can be interpreted in many different ways just like fnaf 1 when it came out. The 2 major theory that came out from fnaf 4 was the crying child was purple guys son theory and the dream theory. After the dream theory became widely hated and despised by fans Scott decided to go with the more popular Crying child is purple guys son theory.

This is a little off topic but is related to the box, but I have a little headcanon about it. I call it a headcanon and not a theory because this is not intended and is rather my reinterpretation of the bits and pieces.
I like comparing the box to trauma. I mean, think about it- think about how much trauma various characters in the series have suffered.
And now think of what trauma does to the brain- sometimes, after traumatic events, the brain tries to forget or otherwise messes up its memory abilities (I would know, my memory is shit likely in part due to this).
“Perhaps some things are best left forgotten, for now.”
That’s kind of how trauma works. The memories are repressed _for now,_ until you are in a safe enough environment that you can work through it.
Or, alternatively, as Scott said, “maybe some things are best left forgotten, forever.”
It’s kind of similar to those who never end up working through their trauma- pain that is never resolved in the person’s lifespan. It makes me think of characters like Michael, who died without resolving his issues (especially given that Afton survived FNaF 6, so his sacrifice was in vain). And if Mike is the FNaF 4 brother, as many theorize, that connects him to the 4th game and adds onto what would be in that box- his trauma. After all, Crying Child is dead, and I don’t think there’s strong evidence that he possessed anything, which means he couldn’t have baggage with him, he’s probably just dead.
Anyway, it being Mike’s isn’t integral to my little headcanon/ramble, I just think that it makes sense since he might have been the older brother and felt responsible for his brother’s death, his sister also died, and FNaF 6 may imply that William was abusive (who’s surprised?). That is a _lot_ of shit weighing down on his conscious. A lot of really traumatic stuff.
But ultimately, the box could fit into my trauma headcanon with all sorts of characters. Maybe it could represent all the traumatized characters! The dead kids, whose trauma and pain caused them to haunt the suits and lash out, or Henry, who no doubt feels horrible for enabling William- I just think it makes the most sense for Michael because I think trauma that happens while young (and given time to grow up rather than being killed like the victims) is more likely to result in this sort of “locked away” memories kind of thing (something about how it affects brain development, I think? I don’t remember how it works), whereas Henry’s is more intense guilt than trauma and possible repression, since he was living with the aftermath of tragedy (in losing his daughter) rather than directly experiencing or witnessing events like these (and if I was correct about the brain development thing, then there’s also the fact he would be an adult with a fully developed brain at the time).
Sorry about all the speculative science stuff, as much as I’d like to I really don’t have the time to go and research effects of trauma on brain development atm. Maybe another time? Probably not.

About the Phone Guy/Chica theory, it actually goes a little bit deeper. If you pay attention to the background audio during Night 4's phone call, and apply the same logic that you do for regular gameplay, it seems as though Chica is the one who killed Phone Guy.

I personally always loved the theory that golden Freddy was a demon that possessed a employee to kill the children and once they died he cursed their souls with rage and insanity to kill anyone that entered the building at night and basically use them as twisted ghostly minions
My favorite theory from the first game is that Freddy playing the Toreador March was supposed to explain that Mike returns night after night because he gets a thrill out of avoiding the danger, much like how Toreadors get a thrill out of dodging bulls
golden freddy being in the kitchen is one I believe. Every time I think of the kitchen I associate it with golden freddy, even to this day. But he could also be hiding in the safe room, or possible outside the pizzeria. Or he could possibly not even have a physical location to hide.
it's most likely he doesn't occupy any space, due to the fact that people work and cook in the kitchen during the day, why on earth would they keep a massive yellow Freddy in the kitchen while they're making pizza?

My personal theory is golden Freddy throws rocks at the camera to disable them for a bit. (They are off cam) this makes it so the animatronics seem like they are teleporting from room to room and why the camera bugs when they move. It makes sense for golden Freddy to be the one throwing rocks because they are more unnatural probably able to be in multiple rooms at once. This is why golden Freddy appears in your office they made a mistake while teleporting. Also foxy is running to fast for golden Freddy to throw the rock at the camera. This theory explains why the kitchen camera is broken. It is because golden Freddy threw the rock to hard at the camera. This theory also explains why golden Freddy is seen slumped down in a sitting position. It’s because they are tired from throwing rocks all night long. This also explains why 1987 in custom night gives a jump scare. It is because golden Freddy threw a rock at foxy or Freddy which caused them to get angry. So freddy/foxy chased after golden Freddy but the biter tripped and bit some poor kids forehead.

Wait what… The custom night 1987 trick actually works? I just checked and if you set the character difficulty from left to right as 1, 9, 8, 7, you actually get the jump-scare, though it is very short. Huh, guess this means 1-9-8-7 is the only night combination that is unplayable.

@@The_Real_NoiseThe return to Freddy's is a fnaf fangame with really crazy lore and most of the lore is explained in a book called The Dreadful Truth and in that book there is a Japanese goverment facility that does experiments to achieve immortality plus I think it takes place around the same time WWII does but I am not sure. If you want to know more about the fangame I reccomend watching two videos made by a youtuber called Eclipse. The videos are a part of his series called "Have you heard about?" and one of them is more about the games and some of their lore and the other one talks about the book's lore (because a few things in the series have been retconned over the years)

I've always liked the "Phone Guy is Golden Freddy" theory, especially given what we now know of how the spirits possess the animatronics. Also, it would mean that the "it's me" message is Phone Guy trying to tell you that it's him inside the suit
Was just thinking this, it would make sense to have been the initial intent, seeing as in the first game, there’s no one else it could have been. Once we got to fnaf 4, it was dropped, and since it was never stated, it wasn’t really controversial as a retcon.
That actually makes a lot of sense. It was established that the animatronics would stuff their victims into a Freddy suit, after all.

I always liked the "Phone Guy is Golden Freddy" theory! Obviously doesn't hold up now, but I found it compelling at the time. Phone Guy was killed by the animatronics and stuffed in an empty suit (Golden Freddy is the only mascot suit rather than animatronic), he says he's going to "try to hold out until someone checks", but no one ever does, least of all the player. Golden Freddy is him possessing the suit, trying to communicate with the player that he's inside the suit - "it's me".
Also always liked the "the player is the killer" theory, although I felt like the connection to the Chuck E. Cheese murders was a bit of a stretch even then. I didn't find the variations of the "Golden Freddy is an empty suit waiting for you" theory until later, but that one's also one of my favourites because the idea is so eerie.
Early FNAF 1 theories were fun.
Isn't it crazy to think that back then people never even imagined that kids were possessing the animatronics and nowadays it's common knowledge? I remember first watching someone explaining FNaF 3's good ending and feeling butterflies in my stomach when they were talking about the kids finally resting, the idea that they had a future ahead and it was interrupted by the same person who built these mascots was thrown in our face so many times that it's hardly as sad to imagine as it used to be, this was what got so many of us interested ever since the first game.
Edit: Honestly I didn't wanna talk about this at first but the whole comment was just leading me to it, i really think the series peaked at FNaF 3.

I remember listening to a theory that was extremely grounded in reality.
It basically said the oder was caused by the suits being old, the blood and mucus was just oil and hydraulic fluids.
The ghosts never existed, and the explanation on phone of the animatronics just see you as a uncostumed endo.
It was honestly one of my favorites.. I haven’t been able to find it since because I guess the guy, after the announcement of FNaF 2, deleted it. :(
my favorite original theory was that the animatronics killed those kids and the "murderer" was just a fall guy so freddy fazbear's didnt have to face backlash

For the bite of ‘87, it happened in the FNaF 2 office. Mangle was on the ceiling and it came down and bit the night guard’s head like she does in her jumpscare. This happened before the events of FNaF 2.

I absolutely love reading old theories about shows and games. Really shows how the stories have progressed. And how it's basically a free-for-all, anybody could make a batshit insane theory

That was probably the roblox version because you could buy access to the kitchen camera in that version. I never did though so idk what happened when you did.

I remember one theory that I saw back in the fnaf 1 days (well more so a headcannon than a theory) was that the endo 01 in the parts and services room was golden Freddy’s endoskeleton (hence why he appears to be an empty suit in fnaf 1)

This reminds me of an old theory i heard, it didn't have a name so I'll call it "loop theory".
It stated that the spirits were stuck on a loop of there last moments alive and that's why the animatronics would come to your office then reset back to/near to their starting point.
The idea that instead of being locked in the back room during the murder, the children attempted to run away to the security office for help, one of them (foxy) banging loudly on the door.
The reason they kill you is literally told to you in game "if they happen to see you after hours they probably won't recognize you as a person" the whole suit stuffing gimmick was the robots A.I. taking over when they got a good look at you etc.
This whole thing is invalidated by FNaF 2 existing, but in a vacuum this would make the gameplay of FNaF 1 kinda dark and sad (as it should be given the context).
On a side note I personally to this day believe that the robot A.I. has more control than the spirits do. whenever the A.I. is active the souls can't do hardly anything until the A.I. switches off at night.
Gives a lore explanation for the robots just stopping at 6AM, the A.I. turned back on etc.
We even see this directly in FNaF 3 with the spring bonnie A.I. wrangling control from William when audio is played forcing him to walk towards it. Unless there's something in the books that says otherwise I'm pretty sure that the souls are completely victim to the programming when the A.I. is active.

I really enjoyed this video! I'd like to suggest covering the craziest theories of the FNaF 2 era as well. I feel like people would respond really well to it. It amazes me how much relevance FNaF has managed to maintain after nearly a decade
Counterpoint: if the animatronics really were built by Nazis, then how come they never thought to have Freddy play Erika when the power goes out, as opposed to the Toreador March, which was literally composed by Georges Bizet. You know, a _French_ composer. Don’t forget what The Third Reiche did to France in their invasion against them.
In all seriousness though, this theory is unbelievably wild and its also just as wild how they straight up predicted future canon lore in the series, such as Remnants.

Always liked MatPat's first theory. I enjoyed how he tied a real world event that could've potentially inspired the first FNAF game in some way. FNAF 1 was really where my interests in the franchise at all existed, and I only caught up with the lore because of the movie.
It's hilarious how close that Nazi one is to the real lore.
It's a horrible theory in my opinion the idea of the guard being the killer sounds interesting and all but connecting it to a real life tragedy is just really disrespectful especially since there are so many people still alive and connected to that incident like how would you feel if some guy made a game based on a shooting you experienced not too long ago and still scars you.

I remember a theory that gained some traction back then where the security guard was sent into the pizzeria as some sort of sacrificial offering to the animatronics so that they would go after him and not try to leave the building to wreck havoc on the population.
I remember seeing that in comments as well. Though it seemed more like a handwave explanation regarding the unrealistic working conditions of the job. I guess the “companies DGAF about you” subtext was lost on people back then lol
But honestly, it still makes sense as a potential explanation for what Fazbear Entertainment thinks about these events. They know full well these things are dangerous, but not the true reasons why.

The Nazi theory is probably why Funtime Freddy's German accent was scrapped. It was a bit on-the-nose.

@@combine161 I mean that everyone just embraced Mike as "the good one" back in the day, even before we knew about the bite just because we played as him we kind of vibed with the idea of him being good. Also, I'm glad he turned out to be such a good character with fears, hopes, and goals, because it could've been like SB where things just kind of happen bc reasons ig and because the plot so demands. So no matter how crazy EVERY theory was, Mike remained to be a "good" character.
Loved the vid, definitely took me back to simpler times where we were coming up with any theory to make sense of the first game (listening to ProClassGamer’s again makes me miss him more and only want part 3 even more). Would love to see another vid on some Fnaf 2 theories, there were some pretty wacky ones there too as well (Mike Kill All being reversed in the trailer, the toy animatronics using parts from the withered animatronics, Jeremy being the bite of 87 victim, etc.)

Regarding Foxy possibly causing the Bite of 87, it's also been said that his jaw appears to be broken in all of his appearances, likely caused by the accident itself. The only time I believe it ever closes is during his run animation, though that could be caused by the force of his run.
Funny thing is MatPat's first theory, excluding the Chuck E Cheese part, isn't too far off of what UCN was
GT's original theory is so funny when you remember Scott said he got almost everything right. I would love to see a timeline that uses that first theory as the foundation 😂
I think the concept of phone guy being inside Chica makes quite a lot of sense.
In night 4 (i think), phone guy tells you about how he wants you to check the suits (because the animatronics are going to capture him and stuff him into one of their suits).
So he is in ONE suit.
For chica, u have extra teeth coming out her character, which may be only an exoskeleton but is also quite likely to be real.
The second set of teeth is the Endo tho
I remember one of the first theories I saw, way back when FNAF 1 was the only game released at the time, was that Golden Freddy was a lab experiment. I believe they used the “joy of creation” Night 5 phone call as evidence for this, and in retrospect… they were kind of right!

i always liked the really old original theory that the animatronics werent haunted and they were the ones who killed the five kids, and the guy they caught was just a scapegoat so the pizzeria didnt have to face backlash

the golden freddy in the kitchen one i think also heavily came from a SUPER popular garry's mod map from way back when fnaf came out, there was a vent next to the office you could go into and look into the kitchen and you'd see golden freddy sitting on the counter.
these wildest theories series is a pretty cool idea (make it for popular games) i think it could do well for your channel :D
