In today’s video, I reacted to Czechia’s song for Eurovision 2024, ‘Pedestal’ by Aiko.
I feel like the song had some potential in it, but overall sounded like a first draft. It probably needs some reworking.

I definitely recommend giving the studio version a listen! The vision for the song feels much more clear, there. They have a lot of time to work on improving the live vocals, so I'm hoping for the best for Aiko. They were an artist I followed pre-Eurovision and I want them to do really well.

This live performance is a disaster but the studio version is actually pretty solid. It's been growing on me a lot since it won. Would be worth listening to that instead.

The live performance was quite shambolic but I don't mind the studio cut at all. I think she needs to improve quite a bit before Eurovision and I'm hopeful she will.
You're really good at describing problems I have with songs that I have trouble putting into words. I agree that this song sounds unfinished. It could have used a bridge section or calm section and it does end too abruptly. Sadly, unless Aiko really improves her performance or the song is revamped, I predict this won't qualify to the final.
Just please tell me she won't scream on stage during the contest. Screaming and wailing in Eurovision songs only work if it fits with the song musically, like "1944" by Jamala.

I feel like this song has a ton of potential, especially since they can add like 30 seconds more if they want a bridge or something. It was my #3 in the NF, but I'm not upset with it. I still wish MYDY had won tho.

I feel a need to seek out studio version. I couldnt clearly hear everything here, but enough to feel there's something very acessible and catchy to be found. Let's await a more finished and polished production. Big ups, Chechia.

Im absolutely in love with the studio version, and the Czech delegation is usually doing their job very well. I think they will revamp the songs and use the rest of the time to fill up 3 minutes, and they’ll come up with a good staging and choreography.
Would love you to react to the full versions of the 12 Maltese finalists - they’re actually relatively strong and the final has now been pushed to February
Kind of repeating what others have said... I heard this for the first time live at ESCZ and it made no impression on me (I voted for Elly, and almost for Lenny) but then a while later I heard the studio version and now I like it. They have a few months yet to make sure the live version works.

Exactly... The song originally is actually good. The censorhip in the chorus ruins it and she's out of breath that the verses in the chorus just doesn't punch the same way in studio
I love it, she had no chance to prepare, but she's definitely gonna improve in Malmö. And it's not as bad as everyone says it was. Q for sure, probably Top 10 or even Top 5 in the final.

Wasn't the national final last year also with not that good audio? The studio versiion has potential to speak to people. Although I agree I would love more melody in the music
I find myself humming this song quite a bit. It’s really catchy, but yes I agree it’s a little raw. I think they can come up with something that works for the final though. I’d tone down the shouting a bit though. That doesn’t do anything for me.

ThePeaceAround a question for you that is not about this videos topic but still Eurovision related. If I remember correctly you mentioned in a video before that you were going to the Käärijä concert in London. If I am correct and you did, then what did you think about his concert? Did you enjoy it? In the videoclips I've seen from his European tour it seemed to be very popular with the audiences in all places he visited .
I did go to the Käärijä concert, and it was fantastic! Had a really great time, was such a great atmosphere

Studio version is great, I think it has a lot of potential if they sort out the vocals and staging. We've seen in recent years guitar heavy tracks can do really well, but only when the performance is there.
1. the NF performance does not give enough potential that the studio cut has. hopefully it gets better on the actual Eurovision stage.
2. the current version of the song is a bit too short, even for Eurovision (2;28 on Spotify). there are still some extra 30 seconds if they even want to have a revamp for Eurovision.

This entry is a car crash for Czech . It’s not got any chance of doing well, it won’t qualify.
It’s not even Czechs fault, it was 5th in their vote. It’s the rest of the world vote that put this first and that baffles me cos I just can’t see what this rowdy foot stomper offers to Eurovision. I’d give this song 3/10 Laura. My prediction is non qualifier
The Czech people also put We are Domi 4th in 2022, so....

@cultfiction3865 The duet that Czechia wanted to send would not even have qualified though. It doesn't change the fact that both We Are Domi and Aiko's songs are really good.
Blanka qualified and was waaaaay worse in the national final last year.

Sure which ballad you are talking about. Czech had two strong options this year, Elly and MYRDY. I would be shocked if this qualified it sounds like a limp bizkit b side.
I pretty much fully agree with your analysis! This feels quite low budget but it could sound so much better when revamped as Vesna did, and possibly scrape through to the final. But then Vesna had a better song to start with!
I first saw this live during ESCZ, and to be fair, it was on Discord so the audio quality probably made it sound even worse. Regardless, I didn't like it. At all. Just like Belgium last year, when Aiko actually won, I was shocked, but just laughed about it. Having heard it a couple more times, it's not as unlistenable as I felt the first time, especially in studio. They have some time to work on it, but overall, I can safely say Czechia will probably not be troubling my top 20 this year. Just doesn't speak to me.

I think it could turn into a good song as long as they revamp it.
Lead singers vocals are quite shouty and forceful so if she can get control of her voice this rock number can go up she reminds me of a Czech Gwen Stefani but unlike gwen lead singer is too shouty in my view! Merry Christmas Rachel ❤️

Okay, my two cents to some people saying she can't sing without autotune - it isn't autotune she is lacking. Her pitch is alright. She needs breath work (amongst other vocal training/exercises and maybe cardio too 😅) so she doesn't sound so shallow. That is also why her screams are grating. Unlike real metal and rock singers, her delivery lacks of depth and gravitas. She also isn't singing from her diaphragm.
Anyways, they have a lot of work to do. They need to get her a vocal couch, have a clearer vision/concept for the song, change up the wardrobes, fire the choreographer and redo the routine so she isn't dancing and jumping everywhere. Figure out staging, revamp the song so there is progression and is less monotonous, just to name the minimal basics they need to do to salvage this. Vesna definitely didn't need this much help even though a revamp was necessary. I honestly wish Czechia the best of luck because they are going to need it.

i will say that the studio version is soooo much better
The song is very short, about 2:30 long. So they have circa 30 seconds of space to fill it with something. An intro? A dance break? We'll see.
I'm not a prude but I'm not comfortable with swearing in a ESC song and I think its too short they need to add either an insturmental break or an extra chorus 🇨🇿🇨🇿🇨🇿
As a Czech, ppl here are disappointed of this pick. People take it like new Blanka situation...
I don’t think this is a blanka case. Blanka was clearly just corruption. The way the Czech national is decided is pretty transparent but the system itself is just sorta questionable. That being said, I actually think Aiko was the best just by the potential it had. It was the only song where I thought the studio version could compete.
@@icyflame716 there is more problems with Aiko. She performed this song before; screaming, i mean her vocals werent great. I think Blanka's vocals were better than this. Ppl talk about no hook, repeatness etc... Video had more badget than others (directed on same place as Vesna's song). App wasnt working correctly. There is more controversy about her winning. me, my friends and other czech ppl are that disappointed of this, that they will not look/support czech at ESC next year.

I dont get this type of singers like ronela hajati like aiko like jann, i know that you tried to perform something nice and impress the audience but if you cant control your breath while dancing and singing at the same time than maybe you should leave the dancing to the dancers for this once. There is not a necessity to dance like that at least in the nf. I like aiko's song when i first listened to studio version but the live performance was such a mass that made me like her song less. Because when i listen to the studio version i instantly think her nf performance. I dont intend to be mean to artist in any way btw if im sound mean please excuse me and my english.

Oh dear. What a car crash. She's not the best live singer, but all the dancing around isn't helping her. This could well not qualify if she can't improve, but she has the energy needed.

Awful, AWFUL performance of a song that is so not in my wheelhouse.
This needs to be a LOT better if they want even a shot at qualification.
