  • Hi guys, and welcome back to my channel! If you’re new here, my name’s Rachel and I’m a huge Eurovision fan as well as a musician.
    In today’s video, I reacted to Denmark’s song for Eurovision 2024, ‘Sand’ by Saba.
    After listening to Germany’s entry yesterday, the middle 8 got a redemption arc! I absolutely loved what they did in that part. The rest of the song is typical safe scandipop which is performed exceptionally well by Saba.
    Initial Score: 7/10

    You are my absolute FAVORITE Eurovision commentator -- the way you really dissect the song (chord progression, instruments, voice, technique) is what I appreciate so much. Keep up the great work!

    This is one of Denmark’s best in quite a while and every time I watch Saba’s performance from the national final it feels like a Winner’s Performance, I think Denmark right now is underrated and my only concern is without the juries in the semis can they get the place in the final that they so deserve 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰

    It's generic but generic in a good way. HIGHLY streamable and Saba is a charismatic live performer. This will be elevated on the Eurovision stage but the staging is really good by Denmark's standards. It's got potential.

    • @KenKobayashiRasmussen
      @KenKobayashiRasmussen Před 3 měsíci +5

      Its funny that you say by Denmark's standards, as if they don't know how to put on a good show. Denmark is known for having good stage show engineers and lightshow people. The person in charge of the whole light and stage show in the Swedish Eurovision 2024 (international) in Malmø is danish, he also designed this show with Saba...

  • @katieking9133

    I read that this is not a live performance - it's the studio version layered over the live performance video, which they've used as the music video

    • @KenKobayashiRasmussen
      @KenKobayashiRasmussen Před 3 měsíci

      This is true, its because the producers of the show messed up on the in-ear piece audio, you can see in the video that she struggles putting it in and out. She is really good live, but she did not have a chance, so they decided to overlay the audio..

    I know it's not an original song but I absolutely love it as a great pop banger. There are already enough creative entries lol. Can't wait to see it in the semi's. I hope they use the same lighting. Looking forward to your Netherlands, Belgium, and Poland reactions!

  • @ReeceChambers99
    @ReeceChambers99 Před 3 měsíci +7

    There's nothing terribly original about this effort but I thought the performance in the national final wasn't too bad and Saba is a fine vocalist. I'm hoping Denmark aren't too underrated this year.

  • @Doivid297
    @Doivid297 Před 3 měsíci +5

    It's another generic one from Denmark, but it has some power to it. In the midst of all the experiments and crazy 90s revival dance songs, Sand could stand out positively and surprise us come May - plus there's always the one song nobody really minds but not loves that makes it ahead of a more popular song that flops live.

  • @citizensallianceofaustrali697
    @citizensallianceofaustrali697 Před 3 měsíci +1

    If this was just a vocal contest she would do very well but we all know that Eurovision voters both jury and viewers, like some activity on the stage, unless it is a out of this world vocal. This certainly has the schlager sound, and feel but that means the song can get lost in the crowd. Personally I would have a couple of dancers on stage so they could physically show the feelings being described by Saba in her words and vocal performance. Denmark is in what looks to be the less challenging of the semi finals but in her section of that semi final there are a few other pop songs and the Greek entry who always bring a great performance if they sing in Greek which they are doing here.

  • @meagans-hx3hv
    @meagans-hx3hv Před 3 měsíci

    There's something about this one. It is catchy; the saaand, saaand bit anyway! The vocals are good, hopefully she can pull them off in Malmo. With so many potential strong vocalists and entries this year, I'm not sure it'll be enough to stand out.

    I think this is a track that makes a pretty good first impression, and ultimately at Eurovision, that's all that really matters to 95% of the audience. Feels very much a product of the Swedish and Swedish-adjacent sound machine, but that's probably why people will just accept it for what it is. Personally, I like it okay, but do think there are, like, 20 better or more interesting songs at least at ESC this year.

    I'm not usually a fan of the Danish songs, I'm good with this one. It's inoffensive, and presented in a decent way. It does sound and look like a Melodifestivalen entry though. The semi final they are in is looking incredibly difficult, so I can't predict if they will make it out.
    Cannot wait for your review of Croatia and definitely the Netherlands.

    It's a better vocal than a song and it is a song contest. I give this one a 6.5. It's o.k. but too generic, nothing special.
