      Use the next 2 months to practice more in a pool and get in shape with running, push-ups and planks. That way, you won't need good luck 🤞

    When I was in the Navy in 1978 we had to float for 5 minutes. We had to hold the dungarees like a trash can hold them and get the air into them. I knew didn’t do it right but somehow I passed

      Use your final month to get in a pool and at least try to get some basics done so that you learn quickly once you arrive in boot camp. Give yourself a head start so that you have more rest time. Good luck 🤞 congratulations 🎉 what's your rate?

    Oh lord. This brings back a lot of memories. I too was a 3rd class swimmer. Lol. Those staff in the water were mean as hell. Lol.

    One thing i can do way better than any boot in the us navy also another reason aquatics in most rural and urban disadvantaged areas needs more emphasis and importance i have taken 2 years of swim classes and 1semester of board diving at my local cc smc i wished more prep before bootcamp was possible during i know my ranks general orders but sailors creed needs a lot of work but even though 57 and still willing to serve 6 years im not worried if ill be able to serve getting out of comfort zone is good work sailors

    Trying to go to ymca to swim but they don’t have a tower to jump from so I am wondering where people can learn that.
    Edit:
    I love the female sailor on the left. Great humor telling her story. Drink some water, swim, drink, swim tsk tsk tsk

    • @ftapon
      @ftapon  Před 2 lety +1

      I would not worry about the tower jump. You can jump off a diving board or find a river that has a swing or some other way to jump into water. But even if you can't, it's no big deal because as long as you can swim, you can dive into the water and get out.
      And when you swim to the raft, they give you a life jacket. So it's even easier.

    After the jump what stroke do you need to do? And is it one way or you need to go back where you jump? Like back to back? 2:38

    • @ftapon
      @ftapon  Před rokem +4

      You're free to do whatever stroke you prefer unless you're commanded to do it a certain way. It's good to learn how to swim both ways, but it's better to know one way well than neither way well. :)

    So, if you can't float on your stomach they allow you to float on your back?

    • @ftapon
      @ftapon  Před 2 lety +4

      YES! At 2:05, she explains that she was swimming freestyle when the RDC told her to flip on her back and do the backstroke. She did a prone float both on her stomach and back after that. You can float and swim either on your back or chest - either way. Just do it!

      @@ftapon so I leave for boot camp on the 31st :), is it really true you can do the prone float on your back if you can’t float on your stomach ?

    Will those that can't swim be sent home

    • @ftapon
      @ftapon  Před 10 měsíci

      Yes, but the navy gives you so many chances to pass the swim test, you really have to almost make an effort not to pass

  • @itzerik21

    So the pool is not actually 25 feet like most idiots on Qurora claim..

    • @ftapon
      @ftapon  Před rokem +1

      Maybe 75 meters long, but probably 100 meters. Yes, Quora is fallible and so is CZcams! :)
