Yeah, when people say "deep web" and "Tor" in the same sentence I immediately know they don't do their research. I do think though that "Dark web" is a bad name for what Tor and Hyperboria are :/
The problem with anonymity arises even in the surface web, because people blissfully ignore that everyone can trace you at any time for any reason.
And that onion and any dark web is the other side where people think it's actually anonymous, when in reality there's backlogs of everything that still have the virtual print off the ISP servers.
I thought before that once you opened the dark web you'll find the worst possible things you can see on the internet, but thankfully I'm enlightened now.

You just described how all our rights work and why chipping at them ends up being a bad idea. Kudos. You may not have meant it, but every single aspect of the video about why we need a "dark web" is also, coincidentally, discussing why halting rights "for the greater good" ends up severely damaging mostly law-abiding citizens and does little to halt the targets.
If I'm not mistaken, part of the reason that the US gov wanted to make TOR publicly available was to help people in communist countries and authoritarian dictatorships ect able to anonymously and securely see outside info on the internet. It's one way (more advanced than a simple VPN) to try to bypass things like "the great firewall" although I wouldn't be surprised if China now has ways to combat/block and possibly locate people using TOR these days, especially if not many ppl are using it and the gov control all the internet infrastructure that it's traveling over within China.
TOR has a function for people in dictatorships, but you’re still going to jail if they find the app on your phone or computer.

Mid to late 90s was golden. There was something about dialing up my net zero and waiting 3 hours for a song to download! Sounds stupid i know but still...... Miss those days.
Ah yes. Limewire, Napster, etc. It was a glorious time. I remember sinking a fortune at that time on a CD burner. Not to mention all the patched/ cracked games there were to be had.
