Looking at this from an artistic view instead off a cryptographer's seems to open up a lot. I think Sanborn is hinting so much to the use of light and position of the light in every single part of the piece. Every hint corresponds to time or the compass. The compass points 'west southwest'. His hint for K4 is directly opposite, 'east northeast'. This is interesting to me since a lot of what Sanborn does is symmetrical. Segments 1 and 3 relate to light in some form revealing something hidden. If everything we need is already present with what we know, at least according to Sanborn, relating these two things somehow is they key. My greatest leap of logic is to use the compass not as direction, but as an analog clock. If we estimate the two directions given to us, an analog clock would give us either 8;10, or 2;40. What we do with this, I don't know. Perhaps using those times correlating to the Berlin Clock as speculated? Though, how light would play into this speculation is beyond me.
