the best album ever, you should definitely listen to it in one sitting, it’s life changing
One of the best...also Rush 2112 and all the Zeppelin albums!
I think on a technical musical standpoint Wish You You Were Here is the better album, but Dark Side of the Moon connects with you on a more personal level.
I'd probably have to agree, even though Led Zep are my fave band!
The holy book of music
For me it is and always will be Wish You Were Here
I remember very distinctly hearing this on the radio one day, around 1997 and thinking if I'd been making music when this came out I would have just throw up my hands and said "I give up, Pink Floyd wins." This album holds the record for most consecutive weeks on the Billboard album charts...with over 14 years straight.
They were young when this music was made
About 28 or so....
Sit down in the grass and listen to Granchester Meadows from the album that starts with the letter U ... it doesn't get much better ...
Released in 1973
@@southpaws6814 Ummagumma
@@southpaws6814 Fearless is another great track.
40+ years and 1000+ listens, still get the same chills when Eclipse kicks in...
Yes, me too, chills for over 45 years. My. Dad saw Floyd with Syd. I'm a fan, my daughter is..even my granddaughter is..(see profile pic, her in her Floyd shirt)
The melody always reminded me of an adult lullaby. Something mesmerizing and deep, glad u felt it
It does me too, but more something that would be played in a mental hospital.
he's mostly talking about his bandmate, Syd Barrett , he suffered from mental illness
It all happend from a bad acid trip. Syd was never the same. And many of the lyrics are about what syd said to them and how syd felt. A happy accident is the wrong expression. But the outcome was wonderful.
@@tobyviramonte419 yep didnt they used to put acid in his drinks and stuff without him knowing? then he just took off one day
@@smoothiegreenburg6065 No, far from it. Syd went and done his own thing with another friend who was really in to tripping. The rest of the band tried LSD once & hated it, and tried to discourage Syd from taking it. And he never just took off either, he remained in the band after his schizophrenia kicked in from taking too much. But he often just played one chord the whole gig, sung wrong lyrics or just never sang at all when he was meant to. They eventually just unplugged all his equipment on stage so nobody noticed, including Syd. Then 1 day on the way to rehearsals, someone in the car said 'should we pick up Syd' To which they got the response 'let's not'... And that was that.
The last two tracks of the album. A perfect ending. Still brings a tear to my eye, even after all these years.
Likewise, few tracks have such a profound effect on me as this double feature (funnily enough another one is also on this album, Time!)
Word, friend, word. I hadn’t the slightest what they were on about when I first heard it, but the words and music were just such a powerful, poignant combination. Always makes me emotional. Today, after many years (and listens) it’s probably because they describe the stifling claustrophobia of mental illness so well. No one but the person suffering truly understands.
Yes me too. Even after 40+ years
Pink Floyd is awesome...do the whole album...it is one big song!
Challenge: Find a bad song on this album. I'll wait...
Ya gonna be in for a very very long wait!
It'd be faster to find a mountain that didn't stand above the ground, or an ocean ran through the sky.
The entire album is essential listening, full stop.
Or... listen to the song and then react
@@geronimous_rat on the run is great
@@johnnynorrisjr.39 it take a shorter amount of time to book a great gig in the sky.
Arguably the greatest album of all time. It was on the charts for 741 consecutive weeks from 1973-1988 and was only at #1 for a single week out of that entire run.
Amazing to think that even though it was released in 73, it still spent more time on the charts in the 80s than it did in the 70s.
"There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark."
@Susan Nilsen Artificial?
@Susan Nilsen hahahahahahahahahaha
@Susan Nilsen good point but I've heard that, even though the moon is tidal locked (so it doesn't spin) it still has a wobble ( I think it's called libration). That said, it's difficult to prove anything so it's worth being open to to all theories. It certainly seems like the moon has to be here for life to exist on earth but you can't discount the anthropic principle. I don't know what to believe. Either way it's a stunning album.
I hate that he cut it off early.
He cut it off early.
Best advice I can ever give to someone is to smoke a bowl or vape some wax and listen to this album while laying outdoors on the grass staring at a full moon. I did this with friends after a hurricane knocked out all the power in South Florida so there was no light pollution and we could see so many stars and the moon was full. One of the best nights ever.
They were in their 20's when this was made. It came out in 1973 I think. They were definately NOT old here. Now if you watch them live at Pulse HD 1994 they are in their 40's. Compare the studio from 20 years earlier & the live version there is hardly any difference. They are just that good. Feel better, guy!
1972
@@jameswilson313 1973, March 1st. It was released the very day I was born.
@@bazingamusic6188 essentially all the Dark Side songs were written and performed live by early 1972
@@phishfearme2 This is true. They were playing practically all the songs on the album at live gigs in 1972. The album was released in '73 through, as you know, but were most definitely playing songs from the album before it's release. 👍🏽✌🏽
I don't know if you'll see this, guys, but this album and the follow-up "Wish You Were Here" were inspired by and a tribute to Syd Barret, Pink Floyd's original guitarist and founding member. Syd had gone waaay too deep with hallucinogenic drugs, LSD in particular, and just fried himself. He was committed (maybe self? don't know) and became a shadow of a person. Syd's sun was eclipsed by the moon of heavy drug use and the pressures and manipulations of the music business; he was the lunatic on the grass.
They got the line The Lunatic is on the grass when they saw a sign that said keep off the grass and they thought that was crazy or Ludacris. They were in their mid to late 20s when they made this album.
Two posters came with the Dark Side of the Moon album back in 1973. It was my very first album. The album that turned me on to music.
This is only the tip of the Pink Floyd iceberg, so much more to be happy to drown in. Grew up with this band, they get better with time, great reaction as always. Much love and respect-!- p.s. you missed the very last part " there's no dark side of the really, as a matter of fact-it's all dark. It's the sun that makes it bright"
I've heard this song a hundred times or more but the lines
"And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill"
suddenly impacted me with their full meaning. Good to read the lyrics sometimes.
They were in their mid 20's when they released this album in 1973.
"Everything under the sun is in tune". (oh, that's nice)
"But... the sun is eclipsed by the moon". lol
This album stayed on the Billboard charts for 900 weeks!😲🤯 I saw them in '72🔥, then again without Roger Waters🔥 and then saw Roger Waters🔥 on his solo tour!♥️🥴 Best album ever in my humble opinion.💥🤗 Still lovin' your show!♥️✌️👍😁
He means "vintage" when he says "old"
J Morris ROFLMAO
They weren’t old when they sang these songs. They were definitely ahead of their time. A very deep band. After Zeppelin, one of my favorites. Thank you peace ✌️
J W AFTER Zeppelin...?
If I could only listen to one album for the rest of my life, this would be it.

Pink Floyd - Welcome To The Machine
Every single time I got a new way to play music (record player, cassette player, CDs, iPod) I bought THIS album.
It's timeless rock n roll will never die people will never stop listening to this stuff
You can sync this album with the wizard of oz movie really cool
Band members age ranged from 26 to 32 when they started recording this album. Took them over 6 months to complete
You get the stranger things vibe from Pink Floyds synth sounds! Stranger things is baded in the 80s but Pink Floyd really brought that style of synth to mainstream music so you aren't wrong!
They weren't old when this album came out! They may still be in the business, but this came out when they were in their 20s.
Any Floyd intro immediately gives me a sense of peace & relaxation.
MORE PINK FLOYD!!! :D
you gotta start at the beginning of Dark Side, and listen to the entire album in one sitting. It's a lot - and it's SOOOOOO worth it.
PF just mesmerized me when I first got their album in 1986; I just loved how they creatively mixed so many sounds and took your soul on a rollercoaster. Still amazing to me!
I would love for you to try Yes, Owner of a lonely heart. And also the whole 2 disk of Yessongs. Some fantastic organ music drums, vocals. One of my favorite bands, right up there with Pink Floyd. Make you want to cry.
Great suggestion!!!! I saw Yes back in the day (and PF a few times) and it’s a great choice.
They were younger than you when they made this lol
I heard that..Glad I was hearing PF when they came out...😎
Roger Waters was 29. I don't think this young lad is 30.
@@srhodes6963 correct
@@marjoryarmstrong6953 I'll be listening to Floyd until I expire. 👍🏽✌🏽
Sorry, no.
You need to check out the song Time from this same album.
Sentinel Mortgage Corp and Money
They weren’t old when they created this they were in their late twenties and early thirties. Floyd has funk, style and depth. Enjoy
Don't forget Syd Barrett The first album is a treasure!
Rodger Waters says at the end of the song there's really no Dark Side of the Moon as a matter of fact it's all dark
They were your age when they made this, This is the epic finalé to and epic album ,
BEST Album EVER!!!! Been my All Time Favorite for Over 40 Years! I Was Lucky Enough to go see them Live (AGAIN) WITH My Daughter just two years ago! Not Only was their Music as Great as Ever- The Visual Effects that go along with Every Song Will Blow You Away! Never Gets Old! I am So F*N Excited to see Young People being Open to Experiencing OUR Music! AND Diggin It!
Bro I was young back when this came out. Born in Oakland , yeah that Oakland and lived in the east Bay and we all had huge neighborhood parties. The street sound then was Santana and War and Pink Floyd. Great food on picnic tables, peoples drinking beer and smoking pipes.
You don’t hear much about that side of the old days only the parts were malcontents caused stupid trouble for dumb reasons. I can tell you back in those days if you were a young boy and ran out in the street after a ball a neighbor man would grab you by the collar and scold you and it didn’t matter what melanin level you had or he had. I know in my heart if we could all get together it would be a good thing.
Sounds like good times in your neighborhood, we never had great parties like that but we loved the same music...♡
I just saw them in concert in 2022. Best concert I've ever been to.
Now if you ever listen to that again, let it play out & listen to the heartbeat ....there's a little message at the very end. 😎. 💖 You guys! 🕊️🎶
Dark Side Of The Moon (released 1973)
Roger Waters - September 6, 1943
David Gilmour - March 6, 1946
Nick Mason - January 27, 1944
Richard "Rick" Wright - July 28, 1943 (died 2008)
FYI: The following Pink Floyd albums are Concept Albums (all songs together tell a complete story)... Dark Side Of The Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and The Wall (1979); The Final Cut (1983) is a maybe, as it was the last album with Roger Waters being in the band.
Pink Floyd was formed in 1965... their (most likely) last album was "The Endless River" in 2014. PF had 15 studio albums... 3 live albums, 9 compilation albums not to mention multiple live dvds and solo albums performed by below members of the band.
.
Shout out to the background singers! They're killin' it! Also, the 70's were glorious...
Lol these guys are old now but this album is getting close to 50 years old ~holy shit can't believe I just said that or that I've been listening to PF since the album came out lol, and your right they are still touring just saw Roger Waters in 2016 and it was amazing. Loved the reaction you should do more PF lol...♡
Hey! Don't make me feel old. It's only 47 years old.
@@9012505 oops sorry but as fast as the years go now days it just easier to get ahead of the game...♡
What I like is how the verse sounds like the singer is crazy, but he's just having a hard time expressing himself:
"The lunatic is in my head. You raise the blade, you make the change, you rearrange me 'til I'm sane. You lock the door and throw away the key. There's someone in my head but it's not me."
Basically describing a lobotomy.
Ayyyy! Pink Floyd are the king's
They sing about the establishment all the time. Most great music happened before you were born .
Yes indeed!
What a great track to start off your first Pink Floyd introduction to.😉I have no doubt you'll love their music the more you listen to them.☺️
The greatest rock album in history. And Brain Damage/Eclipse is especially poignant. Always makes me emotional. Also, it was on the soundtrack to Westworld and (no spoilers), the lyrics are pretty much the plot!!
Raise your hands if you grew up with or just loved AOR radio format - Album Oriented Rock!! I loved getting a band's thematic journey from an album. I grew up with WLRS (Louisville KY) AOR format. God bless those days.
My favorite album from Pink Floyd. I want this played at my funeral. lol
What happened to Syd Barrett had an influence on quite a few Floyd songs but the complete and permanent mental breakdown of the bands original creative force whose also an old friend is going to have that effect on you. It definitely effected Waters
This album came out in 1972. I purchased it in 74' for about $8.00. Never been the same since.
Pink is a journey that takes a life time ! 😎✌
you need to see Pink Floyd live .. ---> Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb .. live , Pulse 1994 ... = Best live guitar solo 🎶🎸 When you can, react to Reo Speewagon - Take it on the run ,, its very good .. good week-end to you ..😎👍
I did grow up in the 70's & 80's, and can tell ya, they were really cool ! I loved them. The cars and all the great tunes !
I love the way you were conducting like an orchestra!! That’s Pink Floyd. I think you get it! ❤️💯
Seeing lazarium at the NYC planetarium with this music blasting!❤
My all time favorite Pink Floyd songs
“Old chill vibe.” Love it! Now I have to go listen to my whole 70s playlist. (My high school years. I wish I could take you back for a day and show you around. It would be fun to get your take on stuff I was just used to.)
This was made in the 1970s, so they weren't that old, but yes the band had matured in their recordings and creativity had broadened. I love Pink Floyd because they were always reinventing themselves and doing entire albums that told stories with each song being connected. This is one of their best albums. Love Pink Floyd.
When they wrote this album they were in there 20s. Now they are in there 60s and 70s. Sadly broke up. I just found you guys and I love your reactions to the best music 🎶 Keep on listening. It's even older. The 60s bangers. I lol your so young. I can't imagine never hearing this music. I had the privilege to see Pink Floyd many times live. My husband was the biggest fan ever. He passed from cancer 2 years ago after 40 years Married. I had them put the pyramid on his urn. That is how big a fan he was. Keep on banging. Love you too. Enjoy the music. Its great your exploring different types of music. Peace ✌ out. Kathy.
He wishes he could live just one day back in the 1970s. I love him. He’s so pure.
Got my 🎧 on.😎
💙💯 love you too young man .
Thank you. Nuff said.
Have you done Great Gig In The Sky? If not let's get it
This. Make sure you get the studio version. Live versions sound good, but it takes 3 singers to do what Miss Clare Torry did by herself.
Maybe I should contact them. I sing along with this really loud in back room at work and my co-workers think it was the recording. like it just got louder.
"I'm feeling the 1970s" that is simply incredible.
This is basically what pink Floyd's goal was with this record - to encapsulate what it felt like being alive in their time - in the 70s.
you need to do the pulse LIVE version////////BLOW YOU AWAY!!!!!!!!
For the longest time, I considered Sgt Peppers to be my all time favorite album, but as I've gotten older that's changed. While I still love the Beatles and they definitely influenced my taste in music, I've come to appreciate Pink Floyd so much more in the past 15 years or so. The Wall was the album of my senior year in high school and it's deeply embedded in my brain and linked to so many great memories of that year. My older brother gave me the Dark Side of the Moon LP as a graduation gift in 1980 and over the years, it's supplanted Sgt Peppers as my favorite. It is truly timeless.
This album was on the billboard charts for over 15 years that is a fact I hope you have a great time feeling the vibe and thanks for your time with this
Clever boy! This album is from 1973, you nailed it
Imagine being sixteen and stoned, listening to this.
I hope 61 is okay too
1973 , to be exact. Saw them perform this in concert that summer. Peak experience!
Dark Side of the Moon came out early 1970's. It is actually one continuous song. I bought the vinyl album in around 1983, listened with headphones or with the 6 speakers around my room.
Best concert I've EVERY been to, and I've been to many!!!❣✌
can listen to this many years past the party days. still give ya the chills
If you haven't watched One flew Over the Cuckoos Nest", reference "you raise the blade and make the change..."
1970's my Mom got me this album for my 18 th birthday, 1977, album had been out for awhile then.
This is a Old Chill Vibe, Keith's Boss! He loves Pink Floyd thanks Tim Keith Bates
"There is no dark side of the moon, really. As a matter of fact, it's all dark."
Cut off too early to hear this said.
My fabulous high school years. Some great music!
Young un'!?😁 This album came out in '73!😂 46 years ago!💥 They were in their 20s!😲 Like me, they're old now 😢, but not back then!🤣✌️
The first vinyl I ever bought with my own babysitting money and allowance! 😉🙌🏼
Pink Floyd broke up in 1985, so they are not doing this anymore, with a couple of quick reunion's for one off concerts.
In 1987 they got back together without Rodger Waters, for a couple more sub-par albums. Plus another album of unused Pink Floyd tracks from the division bell album, in 2014 called the Endless River.
Rodger Waters and David Gilmore both have solo careers in music. Nick Mason had a solo album in 1981. In 2018 Mason started a new band that focuses on early Pink Floyd.
They are well into their 70's, and even if they got back together it seems they have lost their edge at masterful songwriting.
If you want to hear a post Rodger Waters Pink Floyd I suggest, A Momentary Laspe Of Reason, it has a couple great tunes, but still not quite up to the standard of most of their 1970's albums. On that album, On The Turning Away, and Learning To Fly & One Slip is also worth a listen.
I really like your open mind and willingness to enjoy older classic progressive rock. Give a listen to “Hey You” from the Wall album. You will be blown away!
You would love to have seen this era!
I’ll see you on the darkside of the moon!!!🧡🤘🧠
Eclipse always gives me the goosebumps
Sparks a joint
Hits the bong
Gets a little fuzzy and faded
You're listening to album that came out in 1973 then calling them old. They weren't then. It's one of the worlds biggest selling albums of all time but thanking for listening to it and bringing it to a new audience. If ever an album dealt with mental health its this. Trust me the 70's were better for music not equality etc etc but for your soul
Honestly I never gave this album too much credit. Until yesterday when I ate a bunch of mushrooms (second time doing them) and had one of the best experiences of my life when it started randomly playing. Instantly my favorite album of all time. I dont usually listen to full albums but this is a masterpiece!
Its definitely an album that transcends time and space!! EPIC would be the proper term!!
Remember, they were young when they made it, yes 70s...it WAS cool! Da best music 🎶, Love, drugs, rock n roll...
I'm so glad you didn't keep stopping it too much babe. 👍🏼
This entire album is iconic!
Try with lucy in the sky with diamonds of the beatles!
