How to FIX your Bricked GPU BIOS - Bootable DOS Drive Method - HD6950 failed flash to HD 6970

Hey folks, this video takes a look at how to fix a GPU that has been bricked by mis-flashing.
The test card is a AMD HD6950 which the previous owner tried to flash to a 6970 on BOTH bios chips.
The card would only display to a black screen and no windows based flashing apps would solve the issue.
To fix this, Im going to show you how to create a bootable USB DOS drive and flash your AMD or ATI GPU from that.
This allowed me to fix BOTH bios chips and get the card working again!

When do you unplug and replug the gpu in...Does the gpu need to be in the whole time? Just the display cable not into the gpu at first(when using integrated gfx)

Something finally worked for me! Although my MB did not have onboard graphics, I used an older 9800 GT GPU (needed no additional power connections), plugged in along with my problem GPU. That old 9800 GT GPU is a great tool to have for situations like this and others.

I have a couple RX570 4G GPUs that have been flashed with the 8G version of the bios. When I boot up with them as display card it show me the bios boot screen, but as soon as an operating system loads the screen cuts to black. I've flashed the regular 4G version back with atiwinflash, but it still does the same thing. Could this method help or should I look elsewhere for the problem?
In my bios settings the PCI express slot shows it is unpopulated even though I even took out the card multiple times and reseated it properly and rechecked the cables. But do you think this method will not work since the card is not detected to begin with.

For those who cant flash their 2015 AMD gpus, try older AMdflash for dos from 2016 year, it worked for me, the newer versions were putting the newer bios already programmed error... Hope it helps!
can i do the same with this atiflash ( dos version) for a vega 56 red devil ? i ve seen one on second hand for cheap with the error 43 in device manager and the guy said he could not install the drivers . So idk if this is going to work

my sapphire AMD r9 390 detects shows no problem when integrated video used but none of its port showing any pic only black screen. what could be the problem?
After messing with the setting in my bios when I applied the changes I got a blank screen I’m able to boot into windows or bios etc if I’m not using the graphics card. The only problem is that everything on the screen is shifted to the left

@@ermalshala8383 i think it have to do with UEFI / Legacy boot option. new pc mostly set to working on UEFI(only) by default so you have to work around and manage the boot option to work with Legacy

Thanks a lot, fixed my R9 270. Couldn't get the latest atiflash to work so used this version (4.17) and had no problems. I will also add that if your PC doesn't have an onboard GPU it doesn't matter, just create the boot drive on a laptop or another PC

You still need onboard graphics to display DOS after booting it from a USB.
So I don't have integrated gpu, but I have a pcie spare one and I have 2 pcie slots on my mb, so what will I type in the -p section which number if my bricked gpu is in my 2nd pcie slot ?

So i loaded a hynix mod on a mron gpu by accident since I have more than one gpu and they are all different. Good news is the fan still spins when I turn on the PC but I do run into the “Adapter not found“ Error 0FL01. I tried the 2 monitor trick but it didn't seem to work either.

Thank you very very much :))))) This tutorial was the best so far and it was easy and understandable so like from me. I succeded after few failed attempts but those fails were just because I haven't found the right bios in first attempt
And ofc I am commenting from/with unbricked card and the feel I got after succes was like a ton of bricks felt of my chest :DD
To others if the message "this program can't be ran in dos mode" just use specifically atiflash 4.17 (it worked for me at least) and if there is anymore problems just seek an answer in comments and answers to them.
P.S. NEVER EVER FLASH YOUR GPU IF CARD WORKS FINE AND THERE IS NO NEED, and if there is need to do that just leave it to pros pls ;)

Hello! I got an important note for everyone, if you happen to own a GPU that could have maybe different variations of the exact same brand, for example my Sapphire RX580 Nitro+ has two different variations with differing VRAM modules, make sure you find out which one is exactly yours, because different components have different BIOS settings. In case you're unsure which, feel free to look up on the internet using your exact serial number or product number on the box.
My Gigabyte rx580 8gb gaming is just like that. Three different ram brands.

U downloaded the wrong atiflash, you need to download dos version not windows, there are different versions

after hours of trouble shooting I found out you can fix it by using your integrated gpu and run atiwinflash and do shift right click to access command prompt and do "atiwinflash.exe -f -p 0 bios.rom" before you do that though make sure you have 2 monitors one plugged into your mother other into your graphics card.

Is atiflash only compatible with amd? If so can nvflash be used in its place for nvidia? I've made sure I've done everything the exact same way but my computer won't boot into the boot bootable USB.

This worked for me after getting that error: Make sure you have integrated graphic turned on in bios like he shows in video. turn off computer and remove gpu. remove the usb dos stick, you don't need it. Now you should enter windows and remove all graphics drivers with the program "Display Driver Uninstaller". Now turn off computer and insert bricked gpu. if you are able to get in windows then you will be fine. Now just use the normal/new atiflash tool to flash your gpu with the old bios. then run the program "amd/ati pixel clock patcher". reboot and install amd blockchain driver.

i got a bunch or error reading partition table messages when i booted from drive. i formated in fat32 however didnt see any option to enable free dos or what ever it was.

I knew there was a way to fix my gpu using the onboard! (instead of using a double gpu mobo, as EVERYBODY SAYS). Tnxx dood! I just revived my AMD HD 6570.

Bro i had to start the pc with just pci card not the pcie. Then booted and start windows. Then shut down and put im pcie card with pci still as gpu. Then when i saw graphics about to show i plughed on the power pins. Warning try not doing that at least 10 times before you do try it. And still it may not be recognized. Then i had to flash the bajesus out of it. I flashed like 3 times while still running on the pci card. Then eventually it recgonized it and i shit down took out pci card and ran off pcie and then i still flashed it like 4 more times. Boom worked for me. Good luck.

amdvbflash used to detect my powercolor radeon hd 6570 2gb but after flashing a suitable bios it stopped detecting it. i get video output from gpu but i cant install any driver and bios update utility no longer detects the device. is there a fix for this? thank you in advance.

CapuCom it’s somewhere in your bios. You can access your bios by pressing f2 or f8 depending on your pc. But every bios is different so you can google where those options are
CapuCom also you’re PCIe slot might not be compatible with your graphics card bc they aren’t backwards compatible

i have asus maximus viii hero motherboard with i7-7700k (integrated graphics) and a xfx 5700 xt raw ii. when bios graphics set to "Auto or Peg" system will not boot to bios and gpu is cold to touch. if i set bios graphics to "IGFX" and reboot/poweron i can see the 5700xt in my bios graphic card section. if i reboot/restart it will stop booting right after bios screen. installed ubuntu 20.04 and windows 10 and as soon as bios is done and OS starts to boot it stops and freezes. at this point the gpu is hot and fans have not moved at all. i have a thicc ii heat sink fan and also the raw ii original heat sink fan. neither fans move at all. if i tell ubuntu 20.04 to boot in recovery mode with safe graphics it makes almost to the login screen but then freezes. can you give me instructions on how to fix? i just contacted XFX support and they will not help me as i dont have a receipt as i bought the card used but i am first to register it. they should let me RMA but i dont think they will. can you please help with what i should do with my setup? thanks

Check if the card is enable in device manager. If its not then enable it.
If that doesnt solve your problem then your card might not be reviveable.
I fixed this error.
If you have a second bios on your card, boot it with the functioning bios.
While in dekstop, switch to the bricked bios, flash it to the default and then restart your pc.
I just got a used a GTX 760 which is detected as a GTX 680 as the PCI adaptor ID. I've flashed the right bios where device id is the 760 itself. But PCI Adaptor ID stays the same as that of GTX 680.

Tick create bootable disk option is never in rufus when i try it and i've tried old and new and every other usb boot software there is. I'd use atiwinflash from in windows but the useless pile of crap has decided to not start when i try to run it as administrator and every compatibility option. Worked fine before but now wont at all. And i can never figure out how to load the bios from the usb when i do boot from it. Do i just write what the bios is called or what? I ran the usb through rufus and am booting from it without having that option i mentioned but how do i change to that drive instead of c: and then read the bios? Tried tons of time over the years but can never figure it out. But atiwinflash always worked then until now. All i want to do is put the stock bios back in so i dont have to keep patching the driver every time i install a new one. its starting to get annoying.
this only works if your CPU has graphics, check your CPU first
