      I bought mine when they first came out to replace my aging pair of Beats Solo3 for Mac. AirPods Max were a pretty solid upgrade over that headset. The better sound quality, better comfort, and better build quality made it worth it. Now that it has been 2.5 years and they still work just as well as the day I bought them, the price is easier to swallow.

The seamless use between Apple Devices, solid noise canceling, frighteningly good transparency mode and built in Dolby Atmos capability when watching supported music AND movies is amazing! And the fact that I can buy them in stunning orange+pink is just icing on the cake! If they ever do release an updated version this year then I’ll probably be one of the first in line. They’ve been a stellar addition in the near three years I’ve had them and I still use them daily. I’ve gotten close to buying a pair of AirPods Max numerous times (in part via your videos) but the launch of the AirPods Pro 2 ended that and I haven’t even yet felt prepared to add a pair of those either, as good an improvement as I believe them to be…and, yeah, the pricing makes it an easy decision.

Other cons, low battery life, inability to to turn off and crappy case that doesn't protect the headband part. For the price, they couldn't provide a premium case to go with the premium product? The slightly lesser sound quality of the Sonys was was a small price to pay for the comfortable headband, sleek design, foldable with a small, yet sturdy quality case, lightweight headphones . I even chose the x4s over the x5 because of comfort and foldability of the x4s. Even the collapsible X5 case seems cheap and doesn't protect the headphones as well as the X4s.

These reviewers want something new every 5 minutes. And I get it he analyzes every feature and it’s always about the price. But what many of them don’t seem to understand is there are massive numbers of Apple users out there who appreciate the premium quality and premium sound performance and the premium design. We don’t look for the cheapest we look for the best so all this crying about the price - it doesn’t matter. There are other premium Bluetooth headsets more expensive than the AirPods Max. Every Apple product is “overpriced”. Yet they sell a ton and are one of the leading companies in the world. I’d say they are doing a lot right.

Also the mesh on the band instead of it being a cushion feels great on my 4c hair and unlike cushions on others. @alejandroelcid Před rokem +1

      You need to be more specific, "better choice" in what way? Sound quality among wireless headphones is not that different, Soundcore has headphones for less than $200 that also sound great. In terms of ANC and features there is a reason why Sony and Bose are always mentioned, the Sony XM5 and Bose 700 are top of the line and good value; you can't go wrong either with the XM4 or Bose QuietComfort 45.
      I know it doesn't answer your question but first think about why you want the AirPods Max to begin with. Then look at what other headphones are known for those exact reasons and within your budget. It's okay to want the AirPods Max because they're made by Apple, but there really is no big difference between the major brands except in price. If I were to recommend a pair to my nephew I would suggest either the Soundcore Q40 or the AKG 361 BT. Other than that Sony has a good app, the buttons make its functions easy to access and the ANC is amazing; I couldn't hear anything or anyone when I used them on a plane.

  • @Bruceneuman

    Apple needs to keep this product around if it generates views for you. Moreover, I think they might even add a couple of features to the product such as longer battery life, a bit of water protection and for heaven’s sake the ability to shut them off - maybe even a better case and exotic use with Apple TV, for example- and keep the price where it is. Perhaps then we will see an AirPod Air, or. some name like that, for a headphones designed with features and price in mind. Although the current headphone is expensive, except when compared to more expensive ones - its clean sound, simplicity, terrific digital dial control and mostly carefree connection to whatever Apple product you are listening to, as well as the ultra simple adaptive sound control, make them unique in the marketplace. I have too many headphones (as I like to try stuff), but I generally reach to reach for the Max, one of two Bose products and the Bang & Olufsen HX. More than enough said.

    I owned one a few months ago, and used it for 2 months, I think it is still a good choice if someone needs a good ANC headphone. I liked the build quality, and the price is still not that high, the PX8 and Bathys cost more. To be honest the PX8 wasnt as good to my ears as the Airpods Max. I sold it and bought a Focal Bathys, in sound quality it is much better, battery life and the usb-c compatibility is also better.
    But if ANC is not the most important thing, i would buy a Sennheiser Momentum 4, for almost half the price or Sony XM5. (owned both of them)
    I think the price is okay if they use usb-c and 30-50 hour battery life, and also REAL compatibility with Android and Windows.
    If a bluetooth headphone cannot use multipoint or just simply display the battery life with android or windows because of marketing, it is a failed product in my eyes... Oh and of course on ear detection would be nice, if other headphones can do it, even cheap ones, maybe one of the biggest tech companies could develop some firmware that can work with standard bluetooth specs....

    just bought them recently brand new $100 discount. Nothing else in bluetooth sounds as good to me...and I tried the Sony, etc. These are the best made, feel great, great ANC. I don't care they have not updated them, I don't care about 100 other features that I don't value. I don't care if its UB-C, I dont get the obsession with USB-C, I have tons of lightening cables and USB-C cables, its not a big deal at all. Can I carry two cables on a trip instead of one? Or one cable with a tiny adapter that weighs nothing? Is that a horrible hardship? I have a case I bring with all kinds of cables and adapters. Its not a problem at all. They are the best made, most comfortable and best sounding of all the others I tried. And at $100 below the MSRP I did not hesitate. If you have a really great set of headphones made really well and will last many many years, you don't need to buy a new one very 2-3 years. What I require is being met completely and I love they way they feel and sound. Yes the case is a joke but I did not buy them for the case. I like that its more premium than others and has superb ANC and sound fantastic. I don't care about H2 chip features and 1-2 years from now an H3 chip etc etc. Some of us buy something premium that works great for us and the list of stats and features that I don't care about means nothing to me.

    I suspect Apple is more likely to go even more premium. If aluminum is too heavy, Apple’s trend is to go titanium, which will increase the price but reduce the weight. Hi Mark,
    once again fantastically made video with an interesting take in things!
    I bought the AirPods Max roughly 1.5 years ago as a student and I considered myself to be mental to spend that much money on a pair of headphones.
    However, I don't regret the purchase at all since I use and love them daily. Admittedly, traveling with them makes me a bit nervous (I do have an extra case for it but it basically takes up half of bag or backpack, and I see the other disadvantages coming with them. But what kept me from considering, or buying, any alternative is their incredible integration with the apple ecosystem.
    Now working, I do have two iPhones and two MacBooks (one each for work) and I do have an iPad and despite using two different apple IDs I can just switch between the devices so effortlessly.
    I am missing the connectivity part of different headphones in your videos most often (How many devices can be connected to various headphones? How easy is it to switch between devices? etc) and I for sure would definitely love a video of yours comparing just that feature of various headphones (XM5 and 4 / Bowery and Wilkins / Batys / etc.).
    Not knowing how easy it would be to connect the Sony XM4s between various devices is honestly one of the main reasons that kept me from considering or buying them for a long while.
    Anyways, love the video, as most of your others, and look forward to all that is to come from you!

    I think a lot of people reviewing the AirPods Max, whether when it first came out or now, are simply not part of the intended audience. CZcams tech reviewers are catering to the largest possible demographics of every day folks that makes up the large bump on a standard curve, and that's just not where AirPods Max buyers are. Like a buying Leica camera or a Porsche 2 seater sports car,, the intended audience aren't deterred by slight inconveniences like lighting charger, or at times weird design decisions. I think it would be a real shame if Apple dials down the premium on the next iteration because the AirPods Max is one of the few products from Apple that still feel that it's pushing users to adapt to a vision, rather than just bowing to popular demand, which isn't a bad thing at all. But I do hope that this part of Apple, one that's willing to surf on the very edge of design perfection, will never go away.

  • @achilochus
    @achilochus Před rokem

    I agree APM is pricy and perhaps there are alternatives for some people who only use iPhones perhaps. If people won't mind using second hand headphones I strongly recommend people to try second hand APM, it is really good and apple's quality control won't make people feel any differences.
    For me a just need a headphone that supports (1) comfortably wearing and switching between devices (2) good sound quality and supports Spatial Audio (3) not ugly (4) good battery life (5) noise cancellation. Based on my experience I don't have another choice. I bought APM in 2021 with £300 (obviously second hand). I am still very happy with it and I love the white/silver design. Sorry SONY and Sennheiser, they are ugly in my opinion. For the look I would only consider B&O as an option. However I do agree people who use only iPhones have far more choices.
    Btw I have an iMac a MacBook Pro a MacBook Air an iPad Pro two iPhones and a HomePod. I don't meet any difficulties during using APM.

  • @stanleyomar
    @stanleyomar Před 11 měsíci +1

    Based on the suggestions in the video, it sounds like Mark is essentially saying he wishes the AirPods Max was much more like every other sub-$350 set of headphones in design (made of plastic, etc.), but with the noise cancelling and transparency of the Max. That's fine, but then they wouldn't be Apple headphones. The design is so much of what makes them AirPods. I'm not bothered so much by the design or "premium" materials used, but you do notice the weight, especially if you own a light, wired pair of Sennheisers. I also don't think I'd use a traditional case most of the time because of the extra bulk, but I understand people wanting one. The only thing I might add is a way to power them down when desired (maybe by long-pressing the crown).
    As for the price, ya they're pricey, but once you own them, nothing about them feels like money wasted, particularly because of the build quality, but especially because of how well they work with other Apple products (using them to watch movies on a big screen with Apple TV is so nice!).

  • @greasysaucepan3074

    The best way I can describe the Airpods Max is, you get what you pay for, almost needlessly. It’s as premium as headphones get, one of the top ANC and THE top TM on the market. Meshed headband for comfort, easy clip-on earpads for convenience, and just overall simplicity and sleekness of it. The only problem is *(SHOCKING)* it’s price tag, and it’s pretty much useless case, not to mention you can’t “off” it without the case. To summarise everything, it WAS worth the buck when it was first released, but I don’t think it managed to stand against the test of time. With so many better headphones like Sony, Sennheiser or Bose, it’s a tough buy.

Bathys look and feel just too cheap for the price and although they sound great I can’t get my head around spending this kind of money.

    PX8 sound better but NC isn’t as good, finish and quality feel is great but still the AirPods Max have the edge…

Without that canopy I would still be looking for headphones that won’t hurt my head after an hour or so. Sure they are stupidly expensive and not easy to take with you outside the save environment of your home but they are so nice and easy to use in my Apple products ecosystem. Apple won’t ever build a plastic set of headphones with cheap headbands and adjustable hinges, If you are looking for that buy a plastic set of headphones from Sony or which other manufacturer you fancy.

For starters the volume is low, the bass is not strong and at random times there is popping and crackling noises when the ANC is on (I'm shocked no one has even brought this up). I listen to mostly hip hop and house music so the bass is very important, and these headphones just didn't deliver in that area. However when I listen to jazz, it sounds great. To much cost for a headphone which cannot switched off! The so-called power sleep mode within that cheap something named case causes a huge battery drain that leads to a maximum usage of 12-14 hours in an average normal use case. Lighting port is from yesterday and another 40 Euro for a pseudo Hi-Fi cable was a nice try from Apple in my opinion. I‘ve bought them 1/2 year ago at the second market for approximately 410 Euro, tested them with the following conclusions: a hip and modern look, soundwise okay, Dolby Atmos as well as Spartial sound a funny thing if you have an Apple TV which supports these formats, but in no way comparable to pure Hi-Fi, the lighting issue as well as the missed on/off switch to save battery and win hours for usage! And for all these limitation’s you still have to pay approximately 600 Euro for new ones was and is still ridiculous. Even 410 € are still too expensive for that.
