The only reason Apple hasn’t gotten rid of the Beats brand and just absorbing it into the Apple brand is because Beats can still be marketed outside of the Apple ecosystem.
Yeah, but if they also had those (bonus) Apple features then they’d be a good draw for people into the ecosystem.
Main reason is that Apple can use brands like beats to try things with lower standards.
They are very stringent when it comes to the Apple brand.
There's more to it then that
Sony waaaaaaaaaay better

Your reviews are the best out here Sir. Perfect sound quality and video imaging. I'm impressed.... Keep pushing! 👍🏿

Limiting EQ to the cable is a HUGE miss. I daily Sony XM5s, and you can set a custom EQ in the app. Once that's done, the EQ is saved to the headphones. I can turn off the headphones overnight and connect them to my PC for work in the morning, and they keep the same EQ. This is great once you find an EQ that works for you, and in [the current year], where any expensive headphone worth its weight should respond well to EQ, this is disappointing to see from Apple/Beats.
a lot of music sofwares do come in with eq settings
The only issue with the way Sony does it is occasionally I'll set the EQ to something like high treble or extra base and forget about it. Then I'll spend the next week wondering why my headphones are hurting my ears lol
Apple has never made good headphones/earphones. Especially featurewise
@@corruptedsquid1745you think the AirPod pros aren’t good feature wise? With swiping on the stem for volume changes ? The same tap features and all. How are those not good? Also best noise cancellation on wireless earbuds

The USB input feature is really neat. Probably really useful to connect to a computer with that

Here I am coming back to this video looking into beats headphones I used to have some a long time ago
Those quirks are definitely there so they don't compete 1 to 1 with the airpod max, anyhow its fun seeing Beats making a come back.
Imo they don't compare at all with the max because of the missing features.
Also they look and feel cheap. The max feel premium.
The Beat fit pros compete with the AirPod pros, both gens. Mostly because of function and the Fit pros are decent in noise cancellation and transparency
@@kindplanet1 I have both the beat fit pros and airpods pros, and airpods max. The beat fit pros is close to the airpods pros than these beats are to the airpods max.
But there really isn't any alternative to the airpods pros and max that are *equal*. The alternatives are all worse in some key ways
@@ChristofferLund That's the point... they are missing a few features and their material is cheaper... but that's it... they are solid wireless headphones...
@@ChristofferLundfeeling premium is probably the worst part of the airpods, those things are way too heavy
Idk if anybody else experiences this, but one problem that I usually have with beats as someone that wears glasses is that it’s too tight on the head (or the mesh isn’t flexible enough) so it ends up feeling uncomfortable after wearing them for a short while.
can confirm this, and the fact my ears were touching the inside of the headphone made it uncomfortable after 30 minutes. switched to the bose 700 and they’re still going almost 4 years later
Yeah I had that same issue
Absolutely with you on this! Every time I want to wear my sunglasses, I have to remove the headphones.
I'm also a glasses wearer. I only noticed that with certain materials that the glasses are made from. I have a pair of carbon fiber Ray Bans I've had for year, and never had that pressure issue. But with certain pair of Warby Parkers with a thicker plastic I do.

I remember the first vid I ever watch of MKBHD was the comparison Vid of Beats Vs. Audio Technica ATH-M50. Crazy how far his channel has grown, and still love my ATH-M50's to this day 😁
The one dealbreaker for me is that the buttons haven't changed. I had solo3s, and the buttons felt so cheap and nasty to the touch. When the Solo Pros came out, they changed this for a more premium feel, yet they didn't for these. It boggles the mind.
I feel the exact same. My solo pros broke and I grabbed the studio 3s, good headphones but the buttons and feel would make me switch back to my solos in a heartbeat…plus the design was really sexy.
The sound is still terrible, just get sony ones.
just wait for the new bose qc ultras coming out soon
Just get some sonys , Bose or senhissers
@@-xnnybimb-9398you down graded from the solo pro to the studios 😅
Just got these. They are better than the 3 in every way. Biggest positive for me is when I am electric longboarding even at 60kmh I don’t hear any wind at all. Past version had a big issue and let tons of noise wind in.
The absence of the H1 chip and a few other features might of been to keep costs down. Also to draw a clear line between the AirPod Max.
I love your videos and all and everything but its nice to see some internet back on them again
I think the lack of multi-connectivity is the biggest miss for these headphones. You had me sold up until that point. To be frantically finicking around with the settings to try to connect your phone to answer a phone call while watching something on your laptop is just a non-starter for a $350 pair of headphones. Even my old Bose QC 35s handle that with ease. Could never see myself compromising on that in year 2023, especially at this "premium" price-point.
Just a few clicks unless you’re lazy
Dang bro I actually prefer not having multi connectivity. My Sony's are always trying to connect to everything and it becomes more work than just switching devices by pressing a button
@@jblack8502it’s not just a few clicks for single point devices when they’re already connected to a device. i’m not the biggest fan of it because it destroys audio quality, but the difference in availability is huge
Just take your headphones off to answer?
You can answer iphone calls on iMAC, macbook. Am amazed MKBHD didn't knew about this feature. Even if your phone is not connected to headphone at all. wired or wireless. Such a great feature. What can we expect from a guy who gets paid for promoting junk.
I've been a Beats customer since 2011. I had the first Studios and from 2015 until today I still use the Mixrs. I can't complain, they have a solid construction and a reliable sound.
I LOVE my mixrs! I got my neon blue set when they came out still mint minus 1 or 2 chips but the paints soooo thick!
Oh how sad.. my condolences! Because yeah.. that sound is certainly, certifiably, reliably baaad!

What's the outro track?
I was just about to buy these too. I am glad I saw this video.
Love this review mate. I had the beats studio 3's which i abused for 2 years and then they cracked when i placed them inside my weekly grocery bag. Rookie mistake but i now have the Sony M4's and I dont think i'lll ever buy another brand now. they are superb
do you recommend xm4 instead of this pro ? thank you
Marques's videos are always fun to watch. Love you man. ❤
Hey Marques, appreciate what you and the studio do for us! I had a question, how does the noise cancellation (ANC) compare to that of the sony XM4/XM5 and Airpods Max? I was actually looking into the beats studio 3 (from 2017) because they went on like 55% off recently, but these caught me out of the blue. I'm really digging these to be good for travel, entertainment, and the noise blockage is important.
*thanks for the likes/comments

Love your videos! Though I would love to have marks throughout the video for knowing when you're talking about what
i think why apple didnt want to bring beats into the apple ecosystem is to separate the beats and airpods max from each other so some may decide to opt for the more expensive but easier to access airpods max rather than the beats which may be a bit more time consuming to switch between devices
The chip is what I was most excited for 😢
Haha! Stoked you’re listening to our music 3:42 🤍

I actually ditched my in ear AirPods for Powerbeats Pro (RIP to my pair) a few years ago, and more recently switched to the Beats Studio. They’re the exact same chipset, but actually fit in my ears without aftermarket silicone cups. For work and gym headphones, they’re great!
Over ear are SO MUCH BETTER for people who actually workout properly. In ear falls out when you do anything worth your weight
Don’t understand why people use headphones for the gym bc they get really hot and uncomfortable and have no water resistance also after a few workouts will have a sweaty ass smell to them and u also cant remove the earpads on these so good luck getting rid of the smell
Agree with this review. The noise canceling on and off feature is definitely only a very slight difference. Totally agree.
I just value my Audio listening experience way too much ti drop what little coin I have on Beats...Great video as always!
The lab at LMG compared the frequency response of the beats to the xm5 and shockingly they are pretty similar.
What video is that ?
and they are both hot garbage. Seiously, if you have ever heard Airpods 2 Pro, Sony's in-ear XM4s or Galaxy Buds 2 pro they absolutely destroy Sony's over-ears

@@quake721 nope, go check them out, or even look at other reviews that aren’t clearly paid for by apple
@@quake721 Ehh, sorta, I've had two pairs of Beats Studio and they still sit on top of your ears' edges, so you'll feel some discomfort after an extended period of time if you've got large ears. Mind you, I'm talking hours here. On the plus side, these don't have that weird airplane cabin pressure feeling that some other headphones have such as Bose's QCs.
I only get these for the chips. The chip on the previous beats is what made the anc so good WHEN MUSIC WAS ON
I would consider these but earcup depth is a deal-breaker. I'm so used to thick, deep earcups that anything else just feels weird. Keen to see what they're like in person though!
My question is: will the upgraded "seamless engineered leather" still start to peel and flake off after about a year and a half of regular use due to contact with sweat and natural oils on your skin? Because that's one of my biggest pet peeves with headphones that don't have very easily replaceable ear cups. I guess only time will tell.
the airpods max cups pop right off, they are magnetic and super quick to swap
Try sweat covers from wicked cushions
Yes, they will. But that is an industry-standard. Every fake leather stuff is going to disintegrate as soon as the chemicals used to make the material soft evaporate. There is nothing you can do about it. If you want good Headphones with lasting earcups you have to go for real leather. Everything else will eventually turn to goopy oil or flaky stuff again.
Btw. it has nothing to do with sweat and oil in general, it just accelerates the process.
HyperX has replaceable ear pads that you can buy third party or possibly from them
@@andrhamm and they also cost like 70usd lol
I love Beats Studio and I also love my AirPods Max, but I can’t use the AirPods for longer than 1hr because I find them to be too heavy and I usually get a headache after I use them for a longer time. The Beats Studio have never given me any issues, even when using them for 12hr travel/flights. I wish Apple would add some vivid colors to these new Beats Pros’.

Feeling kinda cheaped out on with the lack of the H2 chip - Not sure why they chose not to support native Apple compatibility like the beats fit pros, which are pretty great earbuds. Either way, will have to check these out to see if the sound quality is worth it. Aside from those quirks you mentioned, seems like a pretty awesome headphone. Lossless direct connection capability is a great feature.
But also to be fair, the Beats Fit Pro also don't track on Find My when off.
If it becomes a pattern, it likely means Apple will be divesting the beats brand or kill it all together. It's a suspicious omission.
Because most users aren't in apple. And we would like quality headphones to use as well :)
Apple ecosystem issue. You can't dock points off of them for not having Apple features because this isn't an Apple product. Apple may own beats, but beats is still their own entity.
I think the intentional nerfing of these headphones are a sign that Airpods Max 2 is coming soon.
@@Randomness662nah they just did it to make sure it doesn’t eat into next gen AirPods Max sales. It is Beats by Apple
USB-C and retaining the 3.5mm jack… excellent choices, I can forgive retaining the same form factor even after _6 years_ because they made a good choice over the Solo Pro’s (which have a good redesign and better sound quality but use lightning and have no jack option).
Nice... i really enjoy your videos... Thanks
I believe the valid reason Beats are here to stay and why the teams do speak to each other is because they market to the Beats consumer. Android users get decent products, and Apple users get a decent product with compatibility, which will sell. It won't hurt Airpods Max, and we may even take this as a sneak peek of the second generation, lossless audio over USB-C, which is significant!
You got it. Apple is catering to literally the whole market. That’s why they still used the beats name. Even non Apple users will be able to get all of those things

I have been using Sony MDR XB970N1 for about 7 years now maybe more, and I was shocked to see that the music quality is better on this old Sony than the new beats (Bass boosting is off ofc), I have no idea why or even how.
this has been true for a very long time now it seems. I think the first time I saw beats was in highschool and my 60$ headphones from the local guitar shop sounded much better although most beats owners would not admit it. I think people are too caught up in the marketing and don't understand what they are buying, kind of like the kids when I was in high school.
I think for some beats are more about status maybe than sound quality
Apple must have finally realised that Beats branding finally wasn’t strong enough to stand on it own, so they needed to ship a good product. The last few have been decent, but it’s been a slow slog to get to where we are. Marques must have been surprised this time!

The size of the ear cups seem to be the middle ground for people with smaller ears and a lot of ladies' ears, but large enough for a lot of the men's sizes of ears. Make them a balanced fit for both sizes of ears. Not just catering to one. Making them big for the bigger sized ears isn't good for the smaller ears. It is too big for a lot of us smaller eared people. It's also a typical thing to have to turn off headphones (I'm not talking about earbuds 'cause people also call those headphones). It's also a typical thing with Beats headphones to use that button to pair and turn them off. So that's nothing different.
Thank you for the thorough and honest take for these new Beats headphones. I’ve been waiting for the new AirPods Max to no avail, these might fit the bill for a whole lot less. But don’t like that they got rid of the H chip. That part makes no sense…unless Apple is coming with the successor to the AirPods Max, with better sound and features. But isn’t that true Apple fashion, let’s give you an SE version and show you the Pro model.
Love beats, been thru 3 studio 3’s before I switched to give bose a shot. The ear muffs always wear out first but Id go back after these wear out
I bought the cheapest beats headphones (the ones with wire around the neck) and the H1 chip is really good for switching between iPad and iPhone/Apple Watch etc, would be a bit annoying without the quick switching
those are beats flex, and they only have icloud pairing meaning you neeed to tap their icon to switch. these have that feature but dont have automatic switching of the newer beats and airpods.
are these significantly better than the old beats studio pro? I have the older pair and not seeing any insane upgrade with these that is worth paying the $300 price tag again for new set!

@@markercrayon457to share audio wirelessly with two different devices, they need the h chip. Otherwise the sounds goes to one device only
Beats was really known for their strong bass. Now it feels like Apple just adding unnecessary features but no improvements on Bass quality.
Beats sound way better than they used to. I had a pair of Monster Beats Studios in 2013 and the bass was too blown out and muddy. Just got these new Studios on sale and they sound way better with a flatter sound profile.

Got my pair couple days ago, great headphones
you should explain more of the frequency response to consumers on a basic level. Linus started doing it as well. Can help people make an informed decision
The video setups are always so clean, that the dirty/scratchy part on the left of the screen at 0:13 is very eye catching. Dude raised the bar so high that it's weird to see something like this. 😂
I've owned a pair of these in brown since they were released thinking they're "aesthetic".. well the plastic keeps creaking on the right side and now the noice cancelling and transparency feature causes this havoc of a sound (like wind blowing) in one of my ears (or sometimes both) where I just have to shut the feature down... or when randomly the Bluetooth begins to freak out and create pops after an hour or so.. time to go to apple to ask for a possible solution. Wish this happened sooner so I could return it and just buy some airpod pros 😭
also the brown color is fading on the top, bringing out these white creaks.. the way I'm laughing at my past self for using up my apple gift cards for this 😃
The sync with the voiceover and the b-roll of classy was impressive.
