A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ CZcams. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of CZcams I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on CZcams won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This CZcams channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different

Her version is THE VERSION!!!
Prince💜. I've always loved her version. Use to watch this video countless times. Beautiful! And love it to this day! Never knew Prince wrote and sung this too. But when I heard Prince's! Love it! Shows off the different greatness of Prince's voice.
I believe she only met price once. He summoned her to his home in LA one night. He was off his mind on drugs and didn't like how she she would constantly swear while talking. He chased her around a parked car with a frying pan. That's her story anyway, I don't think prince ever made a comment on it.
Prince wrote the song and you can tell.
Prince wrote it for his group The Family ( not for her to sing) and she put her mayonnaise and raisins all up in it, taking all the soul out of it. No wonder Prince was pissed.
@@Daij62 that's one opinion but I think you just looking to get a reaction with that comment. So I'll ignore it as its nonsense.
Prince literally said she did the song better than he did and it belonged to her now which is like the most prolific award I think a cover could be given
After hearing her version for the first time, Prince simply said "It's hers now".
Be like hurt is a Johnny Cash song now. And not Nine inch nails.
@@jamesdarnell8568 yes but the Prince estate now has said he did it better and wouldn't let the new Sinnead doco to use it
But this last year, Prince's ''estate'' refused to allow the song to be played in the documentary about Sinead's life called ''Nothing Compares''.....no doubt they wanted money, petty as petty can get.
@@BuckingFitchCA wow that blows
Sinead O'Connor had an amazing voice....but she destroyed her career standing up for something no one wanted to admit existed....abuse in the Catholic Church. A true pioneer!!! So sad!!!
She destroyed her career in spectacular fashion by tearing up a photo of the Pope and saying, “fight the real enemy” during an appearance on Saturday Night Live. It was an incredibly brave act and history has proven she was right. Here’s a link to that performance. m.czcams.com/video/X0VpfiMcPPA/video.html
@@jwsel 👍👍👍💜💜💜
That definitely stop her career in it's tracks, people were furious. I remember watching it live, took a lot of courage o her part.
She further destroyed her career when she turned her back on the Christians and turned Muslim.
@@masyelraf that is bais as a Christian I appreciate all faiths.
Even after all these years, it still gets me when she tears up. 😢
I know right? Courage ...
SHE is what REALLY made this SONG! Love Sinead and HER SPIRIT!
Written by Prince, it's a superb song, even to a big prog rock fan! You can't deny it is a classic sung beautifully by this great singer.
The beauty is Prince was multi-genre he was r&b, rock, pop, blues, hip hop, and classical.
Prince refused to sing it after she released her version. He didn't think he could do the song justice and basically donated it completely to her because he considered her version definitive. Much respect there.
I'd forgotten what an ethereal beauty she was. And that voice. Just soul for days married to a great song
I heard that the reason she shaved her head was because critics always commented on how beautiful she was and not her music. After she shaved her head they commented even more on how beautiful she was.
@@matthawkins8880 she shaved her head because she said she was being sexually abused so much and didnt want to be "pretty"
@@matthawkins8880 🤗❤️
35+ years later and I am still captivated every time I see or hear it.
Sinead - voice of an angel but extremely troubled soul and you can be sure those tears were totally real. An incredible interpretation of Prince's song.
One of the most intense and real performers of the last 30 years.i hope she finds peace with herself.she deserves it good luck sinead.
OMG this song kills me. Kudos to Prince, the writer, and Sinead, the singer.
Oh my God! I don't know how many times I've seen this video, yet this is the very first time I noticed that she had tears running down her cheeks. This is such a beautiful song, and Sinead performs it perfectly.
THIS is what I consider the ultimate version of this song!
The best version I ever heard was Chris Cornell's acoustic cover.
I think her live version in Chile is way better, should watch that!
@@jamesleutshe5664 his was great don’t get me wrong….but not even close to this version, she made this song
Words cannot describe how beautiful Sinead is in that video.....not possible. She will make you cry.
Prince had never recorded the song for himself and took no interest in performing it in concerts, however, in the years after O'Connor turned it into a #1 hit in 1990, he began performing the song live. He performed duets with Rosie Gaines in concert and subsequently had a live performance released in 1993. I’m a huge Prince fan. But her version is gut wrenching.
Did Prince ever comment on how he felt about this version of his song?
@@Southlondonrider92 I believe he hated it. God knows why. Ego I suppose
@@sumbodysmiracle0326 Prince would have been jealous so yes his Ego wouldn't allowed himself to acknowledge how great a job Sinead had done!
@@Southlondonrider92 He wrote it for her.
@@aryansigrid he wrote it for her
Her version brought me to tears when I first heard it
Her version of the song drew me in but it didn’t make me cry until I saw the video. She’s clearly genuinely singing it about someone, or for someone. The emotion is real.
@@Backoffboogaloo she was singing it about her mom because she died
@@lacyinmon1004 that would make sense.
Still makes me cry!
I don't think this can be classed as a cover. This version is the first time it was released on single (a version of it was previously an album track of the Family, written by Prince, but the Family's album track was not in the same league as this version). Prince released his own 'live' version of it 3 years later, but with a guest vocalist. The studio version was not released at that time. It was not until 2018 that the version featuring Prince as the vocalist was released as a single.
Exactly! I don't think the average person realized it was even written by Prince (I certainly didn't), this was pure FIRE when it came out, and was unique AF.
The live version had Rosie Gaines on vocals.
It’s still a cover though, it wasn’t written with her in mind. And the 2018 prince release is 🔥, but this is the best known for sure.
@@sampsonsimpson1040 who cares if it's a cover, people here try to take away from an amazing singer, song, voice... Her version is spectacular so who cares about cover or not cover, give credit where credit is due.
@@peterwhite2681 oh I’m not trying to diminish her version in any way, I was just saying it wasn’t written for her that was all. I loved her version when it came out and still do, the emotion she has is unbelievable.
Beautiful this song is!!
Sinead O´Connor´s song "Troy" is even more emotional than this one. this one is just sad while "Troy" is a rollercoaster of emotions a mixture of sadness, anger and passion.
Sinéad O'Connor is from Ireland. Rock chic. Diffcult childhood and damaged. I hope she feels better today.
I think She is Feeling Stronger... She Released a Song Recently in Solidarity with #BLM
www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/mahalia-jackson-sinead-o-conner-1066959/
She LOOKS Like She is Taking Her Meds, Which is GOOD❤️ I've Loved Her since Lion & Cobra ✨🧚✨ I was Real Worried for a While
@@alexandraaaron9705 Aw thats good to know. Thanks for the link. I will check it out.
@@alexandraaaron9705 Yeah, that album was a favorite of mine as well. So glad she is ok today. Thanks again :)
She has made more music recently and is doing better from what I’ve read.
Prince never released this before Sinead O'Connor did it.
Didn’t he ask her to record it? Not sure if I remember correctly.
I thought Prince wrote it I thought for her. RIP Prince
Speaking of Prince, I would love to hear Adore by him 💜
Prince wrote many songs for others such as Manic Monday by The Bangles, Stand Back by Stevie Nicks (kinda), and Jungle Love by The Time.
@@TerriLynn714 I just looked it up and it is a cover (originally released in 85 by Prince's side project The Family) so it's more like Johnny Cash's version of Hurt where it's better and conveys a different meaning then the original.
Sinead is pronounced shin-aid
Yes the d is pronounced, but softly. I live in Ireland, hear the name daily.
@@MediciDee007 Of course you pronounce the D.
Medicina Designs: You are objectively incorrect
@@botticellirejectbotticelli2668 But, it is not pronounced like d in English, it is more a dh, like dd in Welsh.
@@PanglossDr Aye I know it is, both my parents are Irish. The person that has since removed their comment suggested it was pronounced Shinay.
The tears in the end are real. She did the close up part of the video in one take, thinking about the recent passing of her mother.
Aw Sinead. What a singer and such a great emotional performance. The tears and expression all the way through make me think she was thinking of someone in particular when she was performing this song. It’s a great video and so..... brave of her to be so vulnerable and strong all at the same time with such a close cropped camera. There aren’t many who could get away with that, but she absolutely did. What a beauty she was too. Her story is quite sad too because she’s had her demons to battle.
Shes so amazing!I always cry... Prince actually wrote this.
The footage of her singing was done in one take, the tear is real
I have seen other versions of this song by her that sound as good or better than this one.
If you look closer, both eyes drop tears. She was thinking of her Mother who had passed away. Even though her Mom was abusive towards her and her siblings.
Tear(s)...Two...
Sinead’s version definitely topped Prince’s version as hers was a worldwide smash going to #1 on the charts in several countries as well at the US. She started out as an alternative music artist with her single ‘Mandinka’ played on alternative radio like KROQ is LA
She’s so beautiful! It was always a reminder that people that believe “beauty “ is the saving grace are sorely mistaken. Her talent is something that I could only dream to have, if only for a day. ✌️❤️
This entire album- I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got- is killer. There isn't a bad song on it. You'd like The Emperor's New Clothes, I Am Stretched on Your Grave, and Feels So Different.
I’ve loved this Lady since the first time I saw her many years ago, when this song came out I was so angry that someone had hurt her so badly. I then realised it was a cover however this emotional performance is outstanding 🤩. I still Love Sinead and although we have never physically met my Soul and Heart have a space that is always her’s 🙏❤️. Great reaction video Brother 👍.
Agreed, Sinead O'Connor has an amazing voice.
A million hugs to you Sinead, wherever you are. I hope that you have found some peace.
Jane Child - “Don’t Want To Fall In Love”
Lisa Stansfield - “All Around The World” (live at the Apollo)
It’s got to be the version with Barry White
Definitely Jane Child Don't Want tFall in loveo
This was not a cover. Prince wrote the song, but gave it to her, she was the first to record it. It was such a massive hit and later Prince started performing it at concerts and such, so technically, he covered it.
"I Am Stretched On Your Grave" by Sinead O'Connor is powerful; as is "The Last Day Of Our Aquaintance".
Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart"
Yes! A thousand times yes!
It's cool to watch him listen.. he starts off wayyyy to strong with that head movement.. and then you see him get into it and slow it down and really enjoy it. Awesome!!!
Dear God, Prince wrote this song specifically for this Irish woman, Sinead O'Connor, first name pronounced (Shuh-nade), nobody else knew that either back in the day unless they were Irish. But Prince wrote songs for many other artists, and this was written for her. Hers is the original version.
Cindy Lauper - Time After Time
Also True Colors
All through the night
Wow! I always was impressed by the beauty of Sinead in these days! I still have a lot of respect for her!
This is the 1990 version. Prince wrote it. Sinead performed it. The OG version was recorded by the Prince-created group, The Family, in 1985. (Thanks @kaula300)
It isn’t the original though, it was recorded some 4 years earlier . prince wrote it for his project the family czcams.com/video/_ZlzN0Gtpp8/video.html
This is NOT the original version, the original version was done by a group Prince created called The Family.
@@kaula300 I updated my comment - thanks! Didn’t know that.
@@FullFathomV You're welcome
She SO tops the Prince version - and he was a genious!
Truly, one of my most favorite songs. Thx for the reaction. Prince wrote this incredible song and Sinead made the most perfect and beautiful version of it.
Amazing voice. Stunning woman soul for days
Her voice the words took me to another level of what it feeeels to lose someone. Wow then I saw her tear. Forget it! I was right there singing every note with her! Just wanted to help her sing out that painnn. 👍💖💕
This is a Prince song..and she made eternal!
Sineadis a talented musician. Her first album The Lion and the Cobra is so damn good. I Want Your Hands On Me, Mandinka, Troy, Jerusalem- all great, but this was her big hit in the US. She sings with great emotion.
Prince originally wrote this and gave it to a band called The Family, they released it first then Sinead o Connor released it in 1990. Prince didn't actually release a version of this song until it was a massive hit for Sinead.
Check out her other songs “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” “Jump In The River” and “The Wolf Is Getting Married.”
This song/video always brings tears to my eyes.
.
Sinead O'Connor was just 23 years old in this video.
having met her in person, she is one of the kindest people I've ever met.
Sinead O’Connor became my hero when she sang the song “War”, and said fight the real enemy and tore up a picture of the Pope.
This is the original version. Prince wrote the song but never released it. Not before Sinead anyway
It’s not the original though, prince wrote it for his project the family and it was recorded some 4 years earlier.
@@sampsonsimpson1040 You're correct, I should have said it was the version the general public was first aware of. But it was certainly a cover. Honestly, I've never even heard the Prince version that was officially released in 2018.
She was pretty much a 2 hit wontbut prince personally ask her to sing this song he wrote! What an honor to be asked! And she did it perfectly!
So much respect for being willing to feel this one in public. Out society can be so superficial when the real important moments are right here.
This is one of my favourite song if’s of all time.
If you want more Sinead, listen to her rendition of "The Foggy Dew" with the Chieftains. Oh my god, thst song still gets me.
Me to 😀
She is an authentic artist with her heart on her sleeve. I really want to suggest an original by her, 'Troy'. It's hard.
She owns this song. Second to nobody.
She had lost her mother a week before recording this. Legend has it she was thinking of her when singing this, and the tear she shed was for her.
She lost her mother five years before but yep she was thinking of her
@@sumbodysmiracle0326 Ok my bad. I was misinformed. Thanks for the correction. :)
Little Jimmy Scott did a great cover of this Prince classic, in his own, unique Jazz style!
Amazing interpretation!! 😲
A classic...that face, abd voice!!💜🎶🎶
Written by Prince. She nailed it!
Oh I've loved SINEAD O'Connor forever..and PRINCE too!!!
Her voice gives me chills and tears during this performance
angels voice
This is not a cover. Prince may have written it but Sinead sang it.
I believe Prince wrote it for her to sing.
Yes. Prince wrote it for Sinead
Sinead is hard to quantify as far as sound she can be soulful and mournful, to understated, to rock and roll passion. Check her out her life is unbelievable.
This makes me cry, even today.
30 years ago! (1990) and still makes me cry buckets
I also love Sinéad's more modern Take me to Church, and No Man's Woman. She gives great passion.
As an older gentleman who heard original songs before they were " sampled " I think my favourite cover is Bob Dylan's knocking on heavens door from the movie Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. You have to see the movie to get the context. However,Wycliffe Jean has a version out that beats out the original, as long as you watch the movie version first.
Check out the live version of this song- AMAZING! Also her song Mandinka (live at the Grammys - so different from anything that had ever been seen) also Troy, and Red Football- she has so many amazing songs and she is incredible live!
I know it was Prince who wrote this song, but Sinead O'Connor which did her justice. What an incredible she was & ofcourse the fantastic Prince. RIP
Tori Amos- Cornflake Girl
Shawn Colvin- Sunny came Home
She is a very good singer.she sings this song the best.she puts her heart. And soul into singing it
Her version is the one that hit the air waves and became known as her song that Prince gave her to sing.💜✌
He didn’t write this with her in mind though, it was written and recorded some 5 years earlier by The group prince formed called The Family. czcams.com/video/_ZlzN0Gtpp8/video.html this is in fact a cover.
I think she got a raw deal her music her voice awesome .
I forgot to warn you, Prince wrote the song "Sugar Walls" for Scottish pop star Sheena Easton, too. If you hear him sing that one, his is not the original. He wrote it under the pen name "Alexander Nevermind," sneaky rascal!
Prince wrote this song. Listen to Prince's version. No one can sing this song with the emotion and purity that Sinead gives it. JMO.
Sinead made this cover famous around the world because of Her Voice
We all got that one person.
There is a concert version that is really worth watching, she's really amazing.
This song was written by Prince!
But Princes’ song hadn’t been heard when this song came out. So nobody knew it was a cover, only that he wrote it. It was a huge hit.
Prince wrote songs and offered them to other artists. He never recorded/released this himself. He also wrote a big hit for Sheena Easton and others.
He knew who would sing his song best
I always loved her voice... such a lovely voice.
"Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling,
Tell me baby, where did I go wrong?" 💔🤦😭
That's the Jam frfr
I was a radio DJ when this song was introduced to the stations. I heard a lot of music every day. This song didn't seem to fit into any playlist very easily. It's a slow song, which is about the only category I can give it. It's kind of haunting, and I couldn't stop seeing her cold presentation. The song doesn't flow well and I personally find it depressing. At least then, when put up into a playlist with musicians like Wham!, Phil Collins, the BeeGees and Billy Joel.
She sings that so well.
Someone else said Sinead OWNS this song that way Etta James OWNS At Last. Others can do them, but the original can't be topped.
Prince wrote it for her and he sang it after the fact!
Actually no...prince wrote this song and it was recorded by the band he formed called the Family some 5 years before she covered it. czcams.com/video/_ZlzN0Gtpp8/video.html
A lot of people hated both the song and the artist, but I have always loved this song, and she's a strong, beautiful BRAVE woman.
A LOT OF PEOPLE LOVED THIS SONG. DID NOT BECOME A WORLDWIDE HIT BECAUSE PEOPLE HATED IT. MAKES NO SENSE.
I like how people think Prince didn’t record this before who he gave it to- like y’all know what’s in his vault w dates and times 🤣💜💜💜
You are correct, very few can top the originals - but when they do it becomes theyre own. Sinead did it. Whitney did it, Van Morrison did it, and a few others. Rare but special.
Elvis had his biggest hit with a cover (Mama Thornton 's Hound Dog).
You could argue The Monkees covered Mary Mary too.
What song did Van Morrison cover?
The whole reason she began crying in the video is because while singing it reminded her of her mother who had passed away
Prince wrote this for her to sing .. just another reason to love him !!
The first official version of this song. Prince wrote an excellent song and then Sinead made it soar.
Actually no...the song was recorded by The group the Family that prince had formed some 5 years earlier czcams.com/video/_ZlzN0Gtpp8/video.html
great song. love how you put the content full screen
