It's more in the sense that with this, they have laid bare their entire being with you, no longer hiding what they thought and is freely letting you connect with the guy.

He is one of my all time favorite voice actors and the work he did for this game is beyond amazing!
I mean he is a Master at voicing Hearthrob Males that every girl simps for. Tuxedo mask, Akechi, Fushiguro, Lloyd Bannings(Legends of heroes), Kai(Omega strikers), Chai(Hifi Rush), Jugram(Bleach), and Merlin(Fate)are some of the roles I like from him.

I really like Akechi’s VA. You can really feel the malice and anger in his voice, especially when he says “LOKI!!”

The King of Antarctica what gets me more is that Loki is THE god of Mischief and Trickery in Norse mythology. Akechi's arc and ulterior motive, in tandem with the moves and tactics he used throughout the entirety of this game, makes him seem like a FAR more significant Trickster than the MC.
I still cant believe he voiced swaysway from breadwinners. But you can kind of hear it in akechis voice
Fun fact they changed the dialogue after the fight and confirmed that Akechi has the same abilities as Joker but because of how he was raised he can only hold robin hood for his lies and loki for his hatred unlike Joker who can supposedly adapt and move on allowing him to fully use the “wild card” abilities

There was a lot more better build up in this fight than og p5
There is more buildup and I love it. I earned that fight with Akechi, and the best part is, during the Confidant, there were telltale signs. From, using his right hand for a handicap in pool, to shooting with one hand (left hand) in Gun About, to his anger slipping in the bathhouse, and even the incomplete boss fight at rank 8, all of that was built up into this declaration of hatred for his rival because of how well his rival caught up.
He promised a complete duel by slapping Joker with the glove, though I don’t know if that promise is kept.
I may have harped on Sketchy in the past, but that was because his rivalry felt unearned, now I think it is earned.
Was that rivalry of ideals shown between the P4 Hero and Adachi in Golden?

I think that has a lot to do with the fact that he has a Confidant that you have to work for, and that it's also fleshed out A LOT MORE than in base P5
Adachi's entitlement was mostly a byproduct of the environment around him, you see that in how he grew up trying to do everything right and yet still falling short. His purpose in P4 is different than Akechi's in P5, he's not meant to serve as a rival but more of a foil to your character. He's what you could've become if you didn't have the friends you've made around you. That's why his confidant Arcana begins as the Jester, he and Yu may have started out similarly, but unlike Yu he's chosen to shut the world away refusing to see it in a different light.
Although the dialogue in the og p5 is wayyy better
Both Akechi and Joker were thrust into unfair circumstances because of the same person; both of their cases were scandals, covered up by a man who knew how to take advantage of a corrupt system. That's why they were the two chosen Tricksters - their Will of Rebellion came from the same source: Masayoshi Shido.
Though Akechi sought revenge directly, Joker chose to instead combat the systems that allowed a man like Shido to thrive in the first place. That's why Akechi lost and Joker won.

Max Marriner I think a lot of it has to do with the relationships surrounding them. Akechi had literally no one but Akira had Sojiro, the PTs, even Igor and the twins, and all his confidants so he was able to get over it a bit while still combatting the evils of the world. Akechi desperately wanted someone to acknowledge him and also wanted to get revenge for his mother so with no one to lead him on the right path, he went straight for Shido.

In P5, when Akechi is transforming into his psychotic outfit, he goes; "Don't make me lau-" the last part of "laugh" is cut off and it goes right to his next sentence. They fixed it here, though.

Well I was doing infiltration in one day, so after yakuza guys my alliance and joker dried on sp and makes me use item soma after killed by him :(
I finished the palace in one day not expecting the boss fight, on hard mode, he was certainly a challenge for me lmao
When I first do it (in vanilla) I wasn’t expecting this fight so it was difficult as f for me, no sp, no more items, bad personas cause I was trying to do the twins list, hard difficulty, holy sheet, but when I was playing p5r I knew what was going to happen so even in hard it was easy
I honestly thought shido's battle was easier lol
They probably did that so the player wouldn't be locked in a hard boss fight with little preparation immediately after a previous boss fight. I do wish they could've implemented it differently though, because I feel like the boss fight could have had a lot more potential.

First time I did this battle, I got almost wrecked. I did all five letters the same day and had barely any sp left. I had no idea that this boss fight was here. But I will say this, Akechi has slowly become one of my favorite characters in the game.

This. The same occurred to me in my vanilla playthrough. During the last few letters I didn't even bother to save since I thought with the fifth letter done I could let myself relieved for a bit. I pulled an all-nighter back then so I just wanted to secure the damn infiltration route then go get some sleep and *bam* Akechi showed up to wreck my poor ass. Though afterwards he's become my favourite character, I can still remember my resentment towards him at that moment lol
Fortunately for me, I knew this fight was comming this time and I had a couple SOMA's on me (I saved them specifically for this). So clearing the palace day one was prettyy breezy in Royal.

I love Akechi's breakdown here. Robbie Daymond did an AMAZING performance with him.
Yeah. People can say what they will about the voices for the background extras but for the main cast, everyone nailed their roles and Robbie Daymond especially steals the whole freaking show. I honestly didn't give a damn about Akechi's character in the original Persona 5, but the voice work for him was always great and now Akechi has become a character worthy of such a great performance. I'm glad they really went out of their way to flesh Akechi out more in Royal.
Despite all the things he has done to other people’s cognitive minds and psychotic breakdowns, Akechi was a victim in the end. Unlike the Phantom Thieves whom had overcome their personal demons, he has succumb to the pain due child abuse, the lost of his mother, and being a pawn of his bastard father Shido. Basically he is a suffered child in heart who is craving for being acknowledged and accepting one’s love. That is what makes Goro Akechi the most empathetic & complex character in Persona 5.
A.J Thomas except for the fact that after he got his powers he tracked down his own father and showed him that they where really and agreed to use them to further Shido’s career just so that he could strike down Shido when he was prime minister, meaning he was okay with the killing from the beginning. As for the thieves the only person they ever consider killing was kamoshida and that was mainly Ann who made the choice because killing Kamoshida meant that he could never repent for his actions and the truth would likely be covered up by the school as rumors.
I don't think that's completely true, he's my favorite character, but he willingly offered his help to Shido, and he didn't have to do that, he decided to hide his true self from the public and created his own insecurity regarding his fake personality getiting more love than his true self, that was caused by how he was always rejected, but he still did that himself, he let himself being manipulated when he knew that Shido didn't care about him, again, he had reasons for that since he craved attention even from someone he hates, but he could have found it somewhere else, and finally, he willingly waited for the elections instead of stopping Shido immediately to satisfy his own selfish need for revenge.
He did a lot of things wrong, or more exactly, EVERYTHING wrong, he had excuses sometimes, but sometimes not
@Jose Sanchez As for the acts of killing itself, I think that it's excusable too, I mean not the murders themselves but that he was okay with it from the start, Akechi didn't grow up in the same world as us, because of his mother's condition, he probably didn't receive normal moral education, and an orphanage isn't exactly where you'll get that either, he grew in what he thinks is a "be or be eaten" world, so yeah, I don't think that he can be hold fully accountable for that, especially since he's not completely wrong.

Shaymin he killed Futaba’s mom who all evidence points to her being a kind woman and loving and patient mother he also did not care if innocent people got injured or killed to further Shido’s career remember the train incident. To me this tells me that he was always unhinged and even if he met Joker earlier like he said he would have still crossed the line considering he is obsessed with being superior to others like how he belittled Makoto during a mock exam and during this fight to the thieves. He also profited from helping Shido by becoming a famous detective. I also dislike that fact that neither Haru or Futaba ever bring up his involvement in the death of their parents or how he never apologizes for that.

I hate to say that the new parts from 12:12 to 12:50 in Akechi's dialogue is much better in the original Persona 5, it just more flair and negative emotion for what he's about to do and the power he's about to showcase with his anger.

I just love the voice acting done for Goro Akechi. You can feel the soul and emotion Robbie Daymond poured into the character. The cutscene when Goro Akechi yelled "Come, Loooooooki!!!" Is the moment I fell in love with voice acting. I'm not that good at doing it myself, but I've been trying to get better at it. I've tried changing the tone of my voice, which works. I probably will never be good at it, but I still try. I was introduced to the series from the Joker reveal in Smash and decided to look into the Persona series. I don't own a Play Station so I looked at the games from walkthroughs and stuff. Anyway I guess you could say the Persona series is the game that also made me remember why I even loved video games in the first place.

I think would've made this boss fight even better is that it should forcefully lock you into doing a 1 on 1 with Akechi after he awakened Loki, since he said that Joker wasn't satisfied with their fight against each other in mementos, imo.

I've never liked 1 on 1 fights in turn based combat games. And especially here. All it results is you constantly healing over and over until you possibly get a dodge in to get an attack. That's why I didn't like the one on one fight with Shido. It was just more annoying than it was good.
@@Bloodhurl67 honestly, I really enjoyed the one-on-one fight with Shido. I'd originally planned to solo the fight, but if you go in alone, the game still forces your most recent team into the fight.
@@DisasterEnby I didn't, all I kept doing was healing over and over until my SP got low and kept hoping I could get a dodge in by chance so I had to keep redoing the fight from the beginning over and over and took me out of the experience and caused more frustration than enjoyment.
@@Bloodhurl67 see, this is why you make sure you have a persona that can fully heal you before you go into the fight with Shido, and heal more regularly throughout the fight itself. And keep everyone's stats boosted during the initial fight, of course.
That way, the attack/defence/accuracy/evasion boost carries over into the 1-on-1, which you'll then ve able to win in like two turns if you get Shido's health low enough beforehand - Ryuji and Yusuke come in handy on that front. Conserving SP, of course, is a kinda obvious idea - or, y'know, buying SP adhesives from Takemi. They'll help out a lot.
Tl;dr conserve SP, vary between defensive and offensive-focused turns, and keep your strongest team members in the fight for an easy 1 on 1 fight.
Serious props to Robbie Daymond for genuinely managing to make me feel some fear when a teenager batmanned his way into the engine room (before promptly losing his mind)
The whole "I'll ruin my own life and commit murder to ruin THIS PIECE OF SHIT'S life" is always so fucking cool. It reminds me of Iago from Shakespeare's Othello and Dio Brando from Jojo's. Particularly Iago, since Iago also planned on sending Othello into despair through words alone despite being fully able to murder him.
It really sells how Joker could have followed the same path if the Phantom Thieves had killed Kamoshida. Think about it, Joker's had his whole chances for a career ruined by giving him a criminal record IN FUCKING JAPAN. He has ever reason to absolutely despise Shido, and the game is structured in such a way so that the player does too. If Joker had completely lost himself in that desire for revenge, he could have easily fallen to the same path as Akechi.

One thing I barely noticed now is that since Akechi is using Loki, he throws his left hand in the cutscene when the battle is about to start. He’s using his full power like him using his dominant hand since he used his right hand against joker playing pool to go easy on him.

That's not what happened, i know you like to think that's the case but there's actually alot more to it than just "oh he can't take insults" but while were on that subject Ryuji digs at EVERY SINGLE ONE of morgana's insecurites and ON PURPOSE most of the time. Morgana NEVER does that even when he's being critical of Ryuji. Ryuji crosses the line between jabs and outright verbal abuse more than once and the fact that people continue to turn a blind eye to it in order to keep the morgana hate train going is so god damn irritating. I know what verbal abuse sounds like and Ryuji damn well should too. Again the arc is not just about Morgana and Ryuji's beef with each other but Ryuji has a good chunk of the blame. It's not just him "throwing a temper tantrum" either actually try to understand what's going on instead of following the crowd. Royal was my very first persona game so I had no bias for either of them and I made sure to stay open minded enough to see both sides, but as the game progressed it became clear to me Ryuji's an insentive ass to Morgana and often when Morgana's done nothing to provoke him.
Hell there's even times where Morgana has a perfect shot at Ryuji but does'nt take it like when Makoto busted them, he was the only one to not get on Ryuji's case about it and instead accepts it as the groups mistake. But Ryuji says abusive things to him often unprovoke like with the flying bank or being upset that he can't control ac in a god damn desert. Or even accusing him of FAKING AMNESIA, I like Ryuji as a charachter but I'm not just going to wave that crap off like you and other people do.

@@TrivatorGaming Well that's not a morgana problem that's a developer one and as the okumura arc takes place it does become clear the two had their arcs fused together in order to save time. It's also obvious Haru was decided as a charachter much later than the others were. Think about it in the orignal game there is no mention of Haru until the fireworks festival, where as everyone else within the first palace or the second one in Yuskue's case we even see Akechi pretty much right at the start. I have no concrete proof but with the way they were focusing so much on Morgana it seemed clear to me that point in the game was orignally meant to just be his charachter arc but then they wanted to add one more charachter to the party and thought they could squeeze Haru into it and it would be fine. Whether or not you think it worked is subjective but the bottom line it was likely a time saving measure. Personally I think it flows pretty well Morgana and Haru have a cute dynamic and Haru does plenty in the arc for me to get invested long before Strikers came out. I think they both shine pretty well in that arc, the only thing I legit hate about the Okumura palace is that damn boss fight at the end

@@Cloud-dt6xb lol, Morgana almost always instigated arguments with Ryuji. Morgana leaving was because of his baggage of his bad dream and he decided to blow things out of proportion because he felt lacking because Futaba did his job a lot better. Ryuji is mostly muscle for the PTs, and he knows it, Morgana's flimsy pride couldn't handle not having a special role anymore since Joker and Makoto were better and more organized leaders and Futaba was better at gathering info in Mementos/Palaces and out in real life. Why do you think he was arrogant around Haru? He reveled in being the one calling the shots for the newbie Persona-user again.
Ryuji's occasional mocking of Morgana was a result at how often Morgana would criticize and pick fun at Ryuji's own shortcomings.
The added context to this fight from Akechi’s new confidant is absolutely amazing. I loved this fight before, but with the new dialogue and the improved AI, I think it’s pretty perfect.

I’m kinda bummed that I spoiled Akechi for myself but even if I hadn’t I would have realized something was wrong with this guy the instant I saw his mask. It’s clearly inspired by Commedia dell’arte, a centuries old form of Italian theatre that utilizes intricate masks. Each actor wears a mask and the details of the mask can tell you something about the character. A mask with a long nose like Akechi’s tells you that the character is a liar, like Pinocchio.

Huh.... soo I found a glitch while on my playthrough apparently. During this boss fight if you kill his minions with a all out attack it completely skips the first akechi fight and goes straight into the black mask phase.

Like it was blatantly obvious Akechi was the traitor from the near-beginning, but I honestly don't care because it's all so worth it when it comes to a head.
The moment I saw that he heard Morgan’s about pancakes I knew it was him. So basically I knew the whole game XD
I notice when Loki was reawakened, Awakening was played. And when the battle begin, Willpower started playing. Very clever, Atlus.

The change in dialogue makes me think this was supposed to be the first time that Akechi uses the Black Mask form in his life. The original “fun little idea” is to use his power on himself, but the dialogue seemed to imply he’d never done it before. This is more consistent.

Fun fact: The dialogue from 12:13 to 12:48 as well as the exchange with Akechi before his death only appear if you rank up his confidant. Otherwise this scene plays out like it does in vanilla P5.
I verified this myself after watching my bf play through Royal on the vanilla true ending route recently, shame that no one seems to have documented this.
Perhaps this could be Faz's next project, comparisons between events in the vanilla game and how they play out in Royal if you go for the vanilla true ending route? May be a major undertaking but a collaborative effort would be easier
While I'm at it, Valentine's Day scenes, namely the harem consequence events, also play out exactly like they do if you go for the vanilla true ending in Royal, right down to the scene not being fully voiced. This means you will only hear them voiced if you go for the Royal true ending.

Didn't knew that and I got the dialogue without knowing... He was at rank 8 when I fought him because I actually liked Akechi. Don't know how much of what he showed us about himself was fake but I really wished that he could be saved even if it was not canon like some characters that didn't make to P5S

You literally cannot get anymore of a trickster than the actual Nordic trickster god himself, Loki. I mean Akechi embodies Loki To a T. I mean he used a “fake” persona to hide what he truly was, not to mention he used deception and manipulation to get what he wanted. And to top it all off he was determined to prove that he was better than the phantom thieves. Seriously the MO completely matches. Loki was a shape shifter to disguise who he truly was, used deception and manipulation to get what he desired, and always tried to prove he was worthy of the throne more than anyone else. I hope I’m getting my Nordic mythology right. Seriously he’s pretty much Loki Incarnate.
And funnily enough...Thor and Odin are Personas you can obtain for yourself.

To my understanding, that’s not super accurate to Norse mythology Loki. But the truth is the original Norse Loki has been lost to history. Literally, the oldest written sources we have are post-Christian. We don’t even know what he was supposed to be the god of (mischief and tricks were his personality, not his domain). So if that’s your favorite interpretation of Loki, awesome! There’s pretty much no wrong interpretation

I think it's more of a common trope used with tragic characters, like "If we had met sooner, perhaps things would have been different".
Akechi breaks my heart. I was invested in him from the beginning as him becoming a Thief with a newfound feeling for rebellion.
I thought he was going to change his mind at the end of Sae’s Palace.
I wish Akechi was never a villain.
I dunno why, but scenes like that enrich a game to me. Perhaps it’s just me, but that’s what i think.

Just a theory, but I think Akechi himself is deeply troubled by the sins that he committed, and seeing how Joker won despite everything he wants to try that himself and atone through giving the world the rightful justice it deserves while sacrificing himself in the process; Not because he wants to be remembered as a savior or martyr, but because he just wants to do what's right without outright saying it. Joker seems to be aware of Akechi's motives and decides to forgive him and accept his selfish request at the end.
I don't like Akechi, probably because he's a murderer and a fraud liar, but it's hard not to feel bad about him.
Hollywood can only dream of writing a character this good.

I think, even though he was fighting against the group, and later sent himself into a crazed state, the battle against him should've been made a little harder since he's so crafty.
He knows more about the team, their dynamics, and most importantly their weaknesses, that he should've focused a lot more on knocking them down and getting extra turns.
Akechi could use items to target their weak points, knock them down, inflict status effects and do extra technical damage (billiards? ).
So much potential for a truly vicious battle

For some reason this boss fight was medium to me, it got a bit hard sometimes but then it was easy other times. Definitely a good boss though

Jose Sanchez It took me a few days to beat it but yeah, I wasted a lot of SP trying to beat the cleaner and then I managed to somehow beat Akechi with a few SP and HP remaining

Either way his pain stretched from his childhood doesn't exactly mean it's worse because he never really tried to help himself. The phantom thieves did to an extent after meeting Joker. Realistically it's based on what they decided to do with their power.

I've always loved Akechi since his first appearance and really got into the whole rivalry acting, so the overhaul to his confidant and added bonus of the glove in Joker's pocket was just icing on the cake from OG P5.

But like someone else said that would mean somehow managing to NEVER fight in palaces, avoiding any and all confidants (which is a HORRIBLE idea if you want your team to get stronger or just getting good skills) and fast forwarding everything and i mean everything and in some cases that's not a great idea
how to break the game my way.
fight reaper at lvl 45 (suggest bringing Izanagi-no-Okami Picaro to break face!) till lvl 75-80 😂 then play at your own pace on all palaces till this one. 😂😂 I was level 93 when I finished the game the first time on Hard mode. and Im at my 5th NG+ now with all DLC personas at lvl 99 with a 99 Arsene that I abused with 3 stats at 99. idk why I found it funny to do all these. then again I must be goin insane with this effin quarantine!!

An idea for how Akechi's confidant could have been changed to save him.
Upon defeat, the scene plays out mostly the same until he is ordered to shoot you or die. He looks at you saying
' see? This is my true self! I'll kill shido even if i have to play along a bit longer! Are you ready to die??'
Joker: I still have your glove.
Akechi is stunned for a second and smirks.
Akechi walks slowly forward, gun aimed at joker, while saying
' You think that matters? Our friendly game is over! Why pretend you care when im going to kill you!!'
Joker: You're my rival, that's why'
Akechi sighs
'why did it have to be you?'
Akechi holds the gun at your face.
'Fine, we'll settle our rivalry, after we clean up the trash.'
Akechi swivels and shoots the same bulkhead switch as cognitive Akechi catches on and shoots him while running through the bulkhead. Akechi is grounded from the bullet.
Akechi: 'To believe a puppet of myself could reduce me to such a sorry state...'
Joker: we'll break Shido's puppet.
Akechi:' you never cease to surprise me'
Joker and team enter battle against and eventually defeat cognitive akechi (a weakling as seen by shido so easy to best)
Akechi: ' now what? You know the truth. Im the one killing them all, even under shido's orders i enjoyed it. Im afraid theres no way i'll be able to get revenge against that man.'
Joker: Rest for now, we'll handle shido.
Akechi: ' i hate this outcome, but i admit my current state would be no benefit. Fine, but keep your word Joker, dont dissapoint me.'
The team return to the real world with Akechi in tow, hiding him at Takemi's clinic for the remainder of shido's palace. The story plays out as normal for shido with more focus on Akechi added in. Upon Shido's defeat, Akechi is well enough to walk and speaks of accepting that joker won his game, and that while his rivalry isnt over, he will pay for his crimes. Then before he is able to turn himself in, the Yaldaboth Arc happens. With Akechi being brought to the velvet room as well due to ever so slightly agreeing to accept a bond with others, Igor explains the truth of the situation and Akechi realizes he was being pulled along the entire time, understanding the two were meant to be at odds in a rigged game. Akechi renews himself with the fact that had he met Joker sooner, he may have been better to himself ( this is where loki would gain a new.skill or evolve) he would then aid you during the Yaldaboath arc and later turn himself in for Joker's sake

canadmexi They figured out he was evil around the time Akechi strong armed them into letting him join the party for Sae’s Palace based on the pancake line. That was the entire reason Joker survived. He already tried to kill Joker before this scene so they aren’t surprised he’s evil.
They're not surprised that he's been working for the enemy, they're surprised that he's the black mask
