This was my first new car, a red 1998 ZX2 and Ken Yeager from Boomershine in GA was my salesman! What a coincidence coming across this video.
My first new car was a 2000 yellow ZX2 S/R. It had a 5-speed manual transmission, the wider lower profile tires, Borla exhaust that sounded sooo good, and a bunch more upgrades. It had 6 miles on it and they let me drive it out of the showroom. I remember my drive home from the dealership like it was yesterday. I would give anything to have it today but it was totaled by some lady who ran a red light and broadsided me. I wasn't physically hurt but my heart was hurting for sure. It was only like 5 years old with less than 70,000 miles when she hit me. It was a really dependable, economical, and quick little car!
I'm so sorry that you lost the best car you ever had. To be honest; while I still occasionally see a Ford Escort ZX2 on the road these days, I have never in my life seen a Ford Escort ZX2 S/R in person.
@@MichaelLovely-mr6oh they are pretty rare 1999 110 were made 4 were race for ford i assume and 106 were street and 2000 500 red 500 black and 1000 yellow
I had one. It was a good little car. No issues for 100k miles. I put 17” wheels on it and it looked great.

I had a 1999 that I got in 2010 for 900 dollars... I got it with 165k miles and drove it until it died with 250k miles on it.. good car.. Serpentine belt SUCKED though lol
Yep yep. My '98 threw the serpentine belt so much I memorized the pulley pattern 😆
Now I've got a '00 and they put a splash guard in there, and it's never been an issue

How do you put a custom stereo in the car if the stereo is one unit with the heating and cooling? And can the heating and cooling in stereo be upgraded to a touchscreen?
There is a dash adapter kit, not very well made and with 1 din size only.
@@DanielJopQ I remember those. A relative had a 3rd gen Taurus which had a similar dash (Ford had a thing for oval interiors back then). He had to order a dash kit to get an aftermarket headunit.

I had an S/R version of these when I was like 20. Didn't realize back then that it was such a rare trim of them and treated it like dog shit haha. Got it for $750 in 2014. The rocker panels were pretty rusty and paint was faded but other than that it was nice for what it was when I got it. Was fun to drive forsure tho, the manuals gearing was great and it was relatively quick for $15k in 1999 money. I miss that thing tho haha even tho I've had cars 100x's nicer & way quicker since then.
You should have held onto that ECU. Super hard to find.

Mazda BG chassis. Ford and Kia still used it for almost 10 years after Mazda moved to the BH.
