3:07 haha this reminds me of when my mini-DP to HDMI converter stopped working near the end of my league's qualifying session. I had no idea what was wrong at the time, but my monitor stopped giving out a signal and I was NOT going to be the guy who has to start from the pits and miss the start of the race.
I quickly realized I wouldn't have the time to troubleshoot my monitor, waltzed into my brother's room and unplugged his small 21" 1080p monitor, pushed my monitor out of the way, plopped his one down, connected it (via the VGA cable he used) and before I could take a seat, the monitor turned on, revealing that the race start countdown had began. I jumped into my seat as quickly as I could and while still sat all askew, managed to hit the throttle and upshift exactly in time to start my race...
I had forgotten about this, as it happened 4-5 years ago, but this brought it all back to me. Sim racing has given me so much excitement, so much joy, and so much fulfillment over the years... but people who haven't tried it themselves, (understandably) won't understand it.

I've also pulled my wheel completely off of my desk once, before I had a dedicated rig. I was 2 hours into a 3-hour endurance race, and things had been going great... luckily I somehow managed to just about keep going and get it back in place well enough to get me to the finish... I think I made an early pitstop too, haha. Happened 1/3rd through a lap of Nords Endurance though.

One of my favourite things about sim racing is that it helps bring light on the more weird and wonderful obscurities of the car world; Who would have heard of cars like the Daihatsu Midget, the Ligier JS8 or the Honda ACTY without sim racing developers or their modding communities? Plus, even boring 'regular' cars can be given a new appreciation by taking them around tracks and giving them a thrashing most people wouldn't be able to. And that's not even getting into dream matchups on track that allows racers from entirely different classes and eras go head to head!

    • @ChrisHaye

  • @LupusAries
    @LupusAries Před 4 lety +1

Well done, missed it due to being in a race myself today, (Project Cars 2 Group A/DTM, Red Bull Ring), but it perfectly encapsulates the emotions of it.
The elation and the frustration, and everything in between. Including fear on occasion, yeah sims can give you a right old shock on occasion. (Racing and flight sims, but the Combat varieties of Sims turn that up to eleven.)
What I love about sims is the immersion and the intensity they provide.
But also the Journey you make, you can see how you get better.
Saw that in some near misses in Yesterday's race, first ACC race in a while, it was Nürburgring, and heavy rain, Struggletown.
First lap first three corners I had to avoid two spun cars and a few later. The first one was the post child for near miss, missed that car by 10 centimetres (about 3.9-4 Inches).
The Next one I had to open the Steering and go off track on the exit of the Stadium Section. Literally split second decisions that half a year ago I might have messed up.
That was the elation for that race.........the frustration came with my lack of knowledge about Setups (I know a bit about setting them up in Pcars 2 now but not in ACC.) Got the tire pressure in the zone, got a bit of the understeer out, gave all that to my team-mate and then had the bright idea to add 0.3 PSI to the tire pressure.
Worked well in qualifying, but in the race...........I had overpressure in the tires from Lap 5 onwards. Didn't help that my teammate, who was faster, did accidently turn me when he tried to overtake into the first hairpin.
It was the first time in heavy rain in ACC for us after all. (Thank god we didn't get the puddles like in Pcars 2, because those are just plain mean.)
Pity that there isn't such a video for the other sims that I enjoy.

I had no intention of ever getting a wheel. I wasn't really playing enough to warrent one. Now here we are 5 months later after a few long breaks and almost giving up on Sim racing I have a wheel and I play all the time. Every day for hours. I'm still a beginner but learning every day. On a sidenote, this is one of the few videos on YT upon which I have EVER bestowed the honor of being synced up between two different computers. I encourage everyone to try it at some point. Syncing = cool.
One more thing.......this really plays like a movie trailer. And a bloody well done trailer at that. GJ Chris. And as movies go, you could experience far worse than the magical world of pretend racing cars.
Peace out bois. Go burn some tires.

The most amazing thing about simracing for real racers is the skilltransfer. That is what makes it so different from other esports. Soccer players playing fifa doesn’t work for more than a game or two. No other sport hit by this horrible virus has this amazing out that simracing offers racing. And that’s in large part because of the loyal simracing community that paid for it and supported it continuous development in both software and hardware.

So what is Sim-Racing to me, Chris --- well, it's actually in my Channel name.
It's BOTH the enjoyment of sitting in private as a "Single Racer" trying my damn hardest to beat my last previous RSR Hotlap Record --- but then the EQUAL enjoyment of racing total strangers from the complete other side of the world to Australia, racing against them in Online AC Servers...………………………………………………................................………………... Man, this hobby is magnificent!!!

This is a great video, thanks for your dedication and work!
I am not able to afford a wheel at the moment, but I've always been incredibly passionate about racing, and to have an accessible outlet to do it and finding a community that has embraced me as a racer and as an equal (I'm a woman and some guys can be assholes sometimes lol) has been such a major thing in my life. I currently have over 400 hours on F1 2019 (on an xbox one controller) and plenty of experience in other arcade-ish racing games like FH4 or FM7, and honestly, when you get a lap just right or you manage to beat everybody else on pure pace and skill (or you manage to somehow survive a lap 1 carnage lol) there's really nothing else that can compare to it. And to have people close to you and pushing you to improve and being positive about racing and with a respectful attitude is just great. I've heard much about Sim racing being elitist, about being "for try hards" and being "sweaty", but I was quite surprised to find a place of wholesomeness and brotherhood in it as well, and it's just nice. Many can debate that the games I play are not really sim, but I don't care - Sim racing changed my life for the better and I'm thankful!
Thx again for the vid, and race on 🤘
