102 years in the EFL all came down to that game. Been a tough season but we go again in the National League.
Ps. Thanks again for letting me go in the video
Honestly, thank you Luke. For those that don’t know, Luke has been to 53 matches this season. Every cup game, every single home and away league match. Proper fan 👏🏼
It's been a pleasure. Hope to see you again at some point next season. Just hope that we can start things off better next season and that things improve as a club
Gutted
@RAFC Luke I hope you bounce mate take care 👍
@@LukeJames805 Thanks for donating six points to my club, few are so generous! Hope things go better next season!
Respect for fans of Rochdale. I hope this club come back again soon. I love this emotions.

You don't know how they are close to being liquidated? They don't even have enough money for staff, let alone players
i am a cardiff fan so used to being relegated...i wasnt that upset about being relegated from the PL but would have been devastated to go down to L1....we flirted with relegation all year and it might be only reading losing points that saved us
You are incredibly skilled at conveying how much a football club means to us and that we follow the club through thick and thin. Even here in Norway, people have been following Rochdale. There was a lot of focus on Rochdale in a Norwegian football newspaper in the late 70s and 80s when they were in danger of losing their place in the league, but were voted back in an impressive four times.
We have also learned that the fourth division is also called the Rochdale League. There should be three teams that are promoted directly from the National League and the fourth place goes to the playoffs.
I hope we see Rochdale back in the football leauge soon.
Oh wow. I didn’t know this, thank you for sharing. I’d love to come to Norway for a match. Thank you so much for the lovely words.
4 might be a bit much lol
The Rochdale league is class 😂
@@stuntpeggnieve That went fast. You covered the whole Nordic region in a few days. Where was the best football experience in the North?"
Thanks - I didn't know re-election to the Football League was a thing en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Re-election_(Football_League)
Stockport fan here. This is the best football vlog I’ve watched. Especially toward the end, where it seemed like you were on the verge of tears on behalf of the Dale fans. Great work
Indeed Hatter to. But I have to be honest, I was partying after the game as Rochdale are our Rivals.
Another great video Nieve! A completely different take on football in your videos. Very interesting to watch. Keep them coming.
Thank you so much!
@@stuntpeggnieve hey how u was wondering if your available to do collab i really love your football knowledge way your passion and you go to football grounds i love it even if its 20 min stream love to do collab
@@stuntpeggnieve Great job again. You are amazing. Thank you. PS. Loved Napoli’s video. 👍
@@stuntpeggnieve love your videos, funny, genuine, heart warming, informative, passionate
Being from the US, we don’t have promotion or relegation. Our teams have bad seasons and we just move onto next year. People stop supporting the team all together due to bad play and they take it for granted. This is why I love football. It’s just complete, raw emotions from every single fan. It makes promotion that much more meaningful.
P.S. just found this channel today and am already a massive fan! Well done!
Been watching her vids for 5 years back when her team was battling promotion to the championship. Great videos
So its all pointless then?
@@northernmonkeyplaystgames3121 u want a medal?
Being a Canadian that was new to it but played footie in England it's super rough getting relegated.
That’s why I stopped following Sacramento Republic. They’re in the 3rd(?) tier in the States. Won the league in their first season! No promotion so there’s no point. Players change every season so you have no attachment
Nothing but the utmost respect for fans of smaller clubs in the north west, particularly with the Manchester giants on their doorstep. Proper, proper football fans.
Cracking video again Nieve - you’ve got a long and successful career in footy journalism ahead of ya.
This is an incredible video. To make me, a Sunderland fan, feel genuine emotion & empathy towards the plight of Rochdale is a real skill. At the end of the day we all just want a football club to be proud of and when that is taken away from you, it hurts, but the feeling you get when it returns is just absolutely brilliant.
Not a single stoney in sight
100%
So glad the algorithm sent me your channel. I've learned so much about football culture in England. Thank you!
So lovely! Thank you
I’ve supported Halifax Town since 1993. Two relegations into National League. Folded as a club and watched them compete in the Evostik Division One East. One Fa Trophy amongst that. Trip to Wembley this season and happy survived relegation this season. The joys of supporting a football team.
Yep.
As a Wrexham fan, we know exactly what it’s like to go down and hit hard times. Hopefully you get back up in no time
But you and I know how tough it is and it's unlikely to happen, I think it'll be a long time before they play league football again, our clubs only got out with cash behind us.
Noone cares who you support. Yawn
Most Wrexham fans don’t know what it’s like to go down, they only started supporting once Hollywood bought the club
@@cam5556 They had an average attendance of a couple of thousand before the takeover.
@@olimob0854 must be higher now though surely? I was talking out my arse tbh lol, I have no idea
Consistently one of the most interesting football youtubers around. You used the word empathy earlier and this channel has that quality in spades.
"Without those sad times, you just have expectation, you wouldn't have hope"
Truer words were never spoken; I remember speaking to a New England Patriots (who play in Boston) fan after they won the Super Bowl in 2019 (their 3rd in 5 years).
He was not elated, he wasn't even excited, it was just like any other game to him.
Boston teams have 12 championships across leagues, and appeared in finals 12 additional times.
Boston have so many winning sports teams that fans expect winning, and those fans have definitely turned from hope to expectation.
I got kind of upset at his blasé attitude, because I know how much it has meant for me when my teams *almost* made it to the promised land (none have in my lifetime).
Having a "well, that's another season done 🤷" reaction to the team that he was supposedly passionate about winning it all just rubbed me the wrong way
As a Patriots fan, there’ve been times I’ve considered switching teams, probably to the Jacksonville Jaguars, cuz they’re my second favorite team in the NFL, the super bowl didn’t even feel special, it was like ok, we won.
One of my best moments in AFL here in Australia was when my team Geelong was beaten in the grand final by Hawthorn in 08. We were expected to win and yet we were outplayed on the day. Standing there surrounded by euphoric Hawthorn fans watching their players get their championship medals was a great metaphor for life. Sometimes it really hurts. That’s when you dig deep and keep moving forward, knowing it will get better.
This is a hidden jewel of a channel. Absolutely amazing
A very articulate and empathetic way of recording this sad day for Rochdale.
I hope they bounce back soon, from a Bradford fan.
So happy to see you uploading consistently. I don't follow many of them, but I think you're the best matchday vlogger there is on here - no fake, over the top excitement, cool shots, a relaxed vibe, and a spotlight on various teams that as a non-english person I don't know much about. Keep doing what you're doing!
Yes I totally agree. I'm an American living in the states and just love how nieve takes me to places and gives insight that no corporate TV could take me. I enjoy the videos!
It's amazing to see, how English football clubs and their fans live through decades of the history of their club and experience all these ups and downs through generations. I don't think that there is any country in the world, where promotion to/relegation from lower tier football leagues can have such an impact on people. It's just unconditional love and passion for football and own club.
Just went down the rabbit hole and watched a bunch of your videos, you are an amazing sports reporter! Your passion for the sport definitely shows! Keep up the amazing work!
That’s really lovely that, thank you Ryan. Honestly the amount of times football has got me out of a rubbish place. Love it so much.
@@stuntpeggnieve Youre a star and a true fan ! Keep the Faith; Best wishes from Sydney ( Aus)
What a poignant video the passion in the narrators voice is 100% from the heart ❤ i wish you the very best for the upcoming season
Respect to you for conveying so well what it means to be a fan. You fall in love with a team and never fall out of love, even if loving your team is sometimes hard. Lovely to see the unconditional love so many of the fans have for Rochdale.
What an inspiration you are. Amidst the heartache of relegation to the National League you still managed to provide a positive outlook on things. Hope and faith. That came over in abundance, and those two go beyond football as well. You've got a new subscriber. Chris (an Evertonian) 💙👍
My club (DVTK, Hungary) just got promoted to the first league after two years in the second tier. Tears of joy there, tears of sadness here. You just have to love football for how much passion and emotion it creates in people!
Very true, the same in e every country
I remember Stockport being in the Championship, then...it happened so fast...not only were they out of league football, they weren't even in the 5th tier anymore. That is the depth of their fall, but now they've struggled back, it took them years.
Rochdale have had a bad time, but their town will continue to have a club, and that club will be back as one of the 92 again, some day.
In 1987 my lot Burnley nearly did a Rochdale, we won the last game of the season to stay up. For most of us football is a cycle of ups and downs, it's only the super rich clubs that have it easy, not winning a cup or missing out on qualifying for the Champions League registers zero on the football hardship scale. I hope Rochdale come back and prosper but more importantly it's great to see that Luke will be back next season, people like him are what football is truly about. Great video.
I remember that day in 1987-like most neutrals who remembered Burnley as a top flight side with a talent production line I wanted Burnley to stay up , but not only did Burnley HAVE to beat Orient; they also had to pray that other teams lost as well-it wasn't entirely in Burnley's own hands. Could never fathom Burnley's decline-particularly as they'd been in the second tier in 1982 with Trevor Steven in their side -bad owners ? Bad owners are more disastrous than a bad squad ! Different for you these days !
A sad day for football and I’ll never forgive Orient.
One of my friends is a Lincoln City supporter. He has nothing against Burnley, but he hated the way that Burnley were regarded as important by the media and that it was somehow vital for football that they had to stay up. Lincoln City were expendable by contrast, when they went down the media celebrated Burnley 'surviving' and totally ignored Lincoln.
@@RW-nr6bh yeah that's always the flip side BUT what I would say is Burnley have a very different history to Lincoln, League Champions, FA Cup winners, European Cup quarter finals twice etc etc - can't twist it any way other than Burnley were the story. I do understand what he means though
I am NOT a football fan.
But watched this because my nephew lives in Stockport. I thought this was gritty, passionate & compelling to watch.
Many see ordinary here.
I see spirited people & an area on the way UP.
Very professional, video.
So sorry to see Dale go down. Fantastic club and great, friendly supporters. I came to Spotland to watch my team Bradford recently and we received such a warm welcome. You’ll be back and hopefully it will be sooner than later. Brilliant, impassioned film by the way. You are very articulate and empathetic. Keep your great films coming. Mike
Wrexham fan here, I feel this. I remember being relegated at Hereford and then spending 15 years struggling to get back.
I really pray for Rochdale, hopefully you bounce back soon. Proper football league club.
So much emotion in that video well done nieve that was from the heart a true football fan something the big six will never have is a journey up an down the football pyramid proper history ❤
Thank you so much for these videos. I live in America and we don’t get these perspectives you show about the love, support, and care fans have for their football clubs. Some network in the UK needs to hire you as a football analyst or reporter. Your command of language and your perspectives are spot on and really bring emotion to what you’re communicating.
You were always a pleasure to watch, but your last few vids have got me teary eyed for small football towns halfway across the world.😅 You are a blessing to the football(soccer) community. Keep up the great work. ❤
Notts County fan here.
Best of luck Rochdale. Hopefully, we're _not_ playing you next season, but the National League is probably one of the hardest in Europe to win/get out of. Keep your heads up.
7:21 So beautifully put. You just summed up life. Blessings from New Zealand
Just for into although Edgeley park is surrounded by housing, it's not a housing estate. Nice to see you visited x
I just found this channel today, during a shift at work and been loving it. I searched for Rochdale and found out they are 30 min away from playing Chesterfield, which took part of the previous video I watched. WTF. Wish I could find a way to watch this match
I've got to say that's the best I've ever heard from a commentary, and your message to those fans was heart felt and genuinely sincere.
Heartbreaking I'm from Northern Ireland lived in Chester for 21 years supported the team now back home so sad to see the decline.
This is the first video I've ever seen by you and I hope it blows up, wonderful idea and we can tell you truly have passion for football and empathy for the Rochdale fans
She was born in Rochdale.
Stunning ending monologue, very well written and said.
I’m sitting in my garage in Texas watching this crying tears for some reason.
I love the way you document lower league football. probably one of the only (and best) larger channels that shows the true culture of football in england. as an american, I appreciate it
Very sad times for the Dale. Hope they bounce back soon! Also hope you’re all OK Nieve, great video as always! ❤
❤️I’m really good thank you Tom, hope you are too
Hope they don't...Oldham
Fair play to you, Nieve, for doing videos about these wrenching aspects of football fandom. I don't see other vloggers making this kind of content, and it's very relatable and affecting. I think you sum it all up well at the end, too. Fine job.
Feel gutted for Rochdale, I have had a soft spot for them, ever since I started following football, way back in the 70's. I'm from New Zealand, but my grandparents are from Lancashire, and every Monday the newspapers would print the English football leagues out in their entirety. My grandfather supported PNE, and in those days would scroll down to third division tables, I used to do the same, and week after week, year after year, Rochdale would prop up the rest of the football league. Really hope that they can recover, and bounce back. When I spent some time in the UK, I lived not far from Barnet, they were a real yo-yo team, if ever there was one. They have struggled along in the National League for a few years, and their form hasn't been great lately. I have a soft spot for them as well. Bristol Rovers, and a couple of other teams have bounced back after a relatively short time in the National League, hopefully Rochdale can do it.
Watching this straight after ben fosters wrexham vlog, its easy to get trapped in your own teams bubble, but its crazy to see both the highs and lows this sport manages to deliver, utter jubilation to complete devastation
From a West Ham fan
Great video. These are true supporters the life and soul of a club . Hope you come straight back up 👍
What a fantastic video. Such a brilliant way to convey just how much football means to people. Brilliantly shot and edited, interviews were heartbreaking. Keep it up Nieve, hope you’re doing well
respect from a Portsmouth fan hope to see you back in the efl soon
I'm a West Ham fan but I read 'Kicking in The Wind' a few years ago and always looked out for Rochdale's results. I seem to remember a fanzine called 'The 92nd Club' as well?
Best of luck in the National League, hope you bounce back
Ironic, the two teams currently bottom of Division 2 are two of the best footballing sides I have seen at Blundel Park this year. I hope they both are back soon, the EFL needs teams like Dale and Pool, fantastic fans.
Thank you for the insight into this, I’ve been a football fan for years but I don’t have a local team so this was interesting and I can’t imagine the heartbreak they feel… knowing how long it might be before they can get promoted..
Great job on the video and interviews!
Stumbled upon the video - excellent so eloquent and well filmed and really got over the emotion of the day. Very best of luck to you and team for next season.
My goodness, I just learned about the whole pro/rel system two years ago. And this season was the first that I watched multiple tiers of English football for the entire season starting back in August. They post promotion videos on CZcams but there aren't many interviews like this that show what it's like to be in the stands the moment your team is knocked out of the division. It honestly looks and sounds like a funeral procession coming out of the grounds. It seems to me that being relegated hurts 10x worse than the joy of gaining promotion. I don't know how you guys do it.
Well done as always, Nieve. You are a wonderful human being and I love that you cover angles of the game that few do. We're all better informed for it.
Superb video, really encapsulates the emotion of not only relegation but out of the football league. As a Bristol Rovers fan bouncing back from relegation to the National League at the first opportunity was the biggest achievement in the clubs history. Such a tough division.
This is absolutely spot on. You've hit the nail on the head. I know exactly how it feels, been through it all as a Stockport County fan. Every emotion you can think of has perfectly been described by yourself. As we all say in football.. "We go again."
Brilliant, passionate, profoundly articulate. Thank you for this.
Thank you so bloody much!
It's not the end of the world, as you said we (County) were out of the league for 11 years, we still had football to attend every week, great vlog by the way.
I love this style of video, and that message at the end was perfectly delivered. And that's the sad reality of football - in the blink of an eye you can find your club in the national league when 5 minutes ago you were fighting for promotion to the championship, and once you're down there, it's usually almost impossible to make it back soon (ask Yeovil Town fans as well this season - mental as a Brentford fan to think that they beat us to promotion to the championship a decade ago, and now we're top half in the prem and they're in the 6th tier next season)
This video came up in my feed so I watched it. Firstly commiserations to the fans - this excellent video was packed with raw emotion, and here's where your hope and your first challenge awaits - bounce straight back, you can do it. I'm a Sunderland fan and watching us plummet like a stone and struggle in league one for 4 painful years was hard. And here we are now knocking on the door of the premiership. Accept this, learn from this go forth with belief and attitude and you'll do it.
American here, you came up on my feed and I checked out a video or 6. I just gotta say you are great at this style of reporting. Love the videos and the way you put them together.
Gutted for Rochdale supporters, I know the feeling minus 30 years as Scunthorpe went down in 21-22 after 72 years. And now we’re going down again. You’ll be back Rochdale, real great video, your videos are always great. Up the Iron!
I love how you capture the community of watching football. Really enjoy your style of videos. Your love of English football really shines through the camera
A Dale supporter since 1964 here. I have seen all the highs and lows in that time and know how the Dale work. I needed this video, you have sensitively recorded and shared the hurt and pain of relegation to the NL. Your note of optimism at the end about better days is coming to fruition now with Big Jim and ‘total options’footy. UP the DALE💙
What can I say I’ve only just recently come across you. I just wanted to convey my admiration for you wonderful content. You are fabulous. Your delivery, research, editing, emotion just spot on. I will look forward to you presenting pitch side on tv cos that’s where I think you should be in the not too distant future. Well done.
Wow, Craig. Thank you so much. I wish I could properly put into words, how much comments like this, boost my confidence and passion to keep going.
@@stuntpeggnieve I can only confirm what Craig is saying. Same here, binging your videos since finding the one about Wrexham. I absolutely love the tone of voice and your storytelling, choice of words and emotion that I feel through the screen. You have a great talent, making these football 'documentaries'. Keep it up, you're making something special here
I think you summary summed up everything about being a football fan. As a Manchester City Fan for over 50 years I have experienced all those ups and downs and thankfully mostly Ups at the minute. Keep up the great work your content is always informative and entertaining.
I feel the passion and disappointment in every word you said, amazing video. Football is all about the ups and downs. No clearly can that be seen than in my club here in Ireland (Cork City). We won the league and cup double in 2017, got relegated in 2021, dominated the second tier in 2022, and now we are struggling near the bottom of the premier division so far this year. The true fans are the ones who will back the club through the hardest of times. I hope this pain isn’t too prolonged for Rochdale fans.
Excellent video from a new US subscriber. Thank you for showing the heartache of the relegation experience, something that is missing from the MLS/US version of the game, and something most Americans wouldn’t understand.
Love your work. You’ll be a sports journalist sooner than later!
I really do hope so, thank you Alec!
Bristol Rovers fan here, hope Dale get back ASAP. Know the feeling. Don’t give up
A moment of sad history. Glad you were there to bring us this footage, great content.

Hello I'm an ipswich fan I went to Rochdale about 3 half years ago wasn't sure how welcomed we'd feel as it was my only visit to the stadium and I have to say I was laughing and joking with the Rochdale fan's in the chippy across the road and loved the vibe of the place as I'm a Nottinghamshire lad I get the culture the humour the music played before the game stone roses, oasis, inspiral carpets a proper feel a proper football club real genuine roots .With those credentials YOU WILL DEFINITELY BOUNCE BACK I'm convinced. I can guarantee you the board will already be planning a quick return but its you the fan s who make all the difference. I really hope you return next season please don't lose heart stay true YOU WILL BE BACK.

youre an incredible journalist. this was such a great video, although the result is hurtful for the Rochdale fans. that you find such great stories to bring to people every time is what makes you great. keep it up, and dudes, at least you're not Chelsea
As a football fan from down under, I don’t know why the CZcams algorithm led me your way…but I’m sure glad it did. As a fan of both struggling AFL and EPL clubs, the high and lows are amplified…but you always stick by your team and ride it out. Your closing words brought a lump to my throat. Thank you.
What an absolute heart felt video. Could see the emotion in you.
Rochdale being so close to family i feel your pain just as i did for bury. I hope you jump straight back to winning ways next season
Absolutely wonderful, heart wrenching video. One of the things that I was looking forward to most about getting promoted back to League 2 was visiting Rochdale again after so many years. Gutted they are going down.
Fair play to the Rochdale fans and fans of all clubs in the lower divisions whether football league or non league. Football is for the fans and fans are the lifeblood of any club. Away from the glitz and glamour of the top divisions, you have this more pure version of football.
And shoutout to stuntpegg for these kinds of videos - always awesome seeing the fan experience at other clubs, especially those down the pyramid or without the profile of bigger clubs.
Great video , gutted for Rochdale ,all the best for a quick return next season from a Cardiff fan

Excellent video. As a Brighton fan, I know about those tough times. But also I always look out for Rochdale's progress, because we had some great away days at Spotland. They treated us with great hospitality and fun. A top chap called Less Duckworth oversaw everything and made us feel at home. Hope you bounce back soon!

wow i just found your channel and have been so moved by your videos thank u so much and keep it up:)
I love your videos. I'm a season ticket holder at a PL club and my local club also (Bohemians) who almost went to the wall at one point. It's fantastic to see the great big world of football that exists out there beyond the premier league.
Reminds me of when my club (Grimsby) finished bottom of the EFL 2 years ago, (2020/21, behind closed doors) only that we couldn’t be there to see it happen. Maybe for those Grimsby players, it really was for the best because it would have got very ugly amongst Grimsby fans…
Luckily for us, we ended up with better owners, denied Wrexham and went straight back to the EFL via the hardest Play Off Path that is possible. Look it up, the National League Play Offs are brutal.
We also went on to cause 5 FA Cup Upsets (the most from any team ever in the FA Cup) which included Southampton at St. Mary’s to get a 1st FA Cup Quarter Final since 1939, and the 1st as a League 2 club since 1990; but that’s another discussion for another day. Point is, when you get relegated out of the EFL, you don’t imagine amazing stuff like THAT FA Cup Run or that immediate EFL Return happening at all.
Great comment. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Grimsby fans, so I would like to come and visit soon. I was so happy for you in the FA Cup, what a run. Those play offs last year were absolutely bonkers weren’t they.
I felt the same with my Bolton a few years ago, I was at Wycombe away, we sold out the entire away stand, we didn’t know who would actually be playing as players were refusing to play because they weren’t being paid, and we thought it would be our last ever game. Suddenly, wonder woman herself Sharon Brittan saves us…since then we’ve had a promotion and a trophy at Wembley, and on track for the play offs back to the Championship! Crazy!
@@stuntpeggnieve Thanks Nieve. I am a Season Ticket Holder as well, which meant I was able to go to Brighton.
It was an awesome atmosphere in the away end. In fact, I uploaded 2 videos, both are unlisted.
The first was the entrances and the second was the post-match party-like atmosphere which you wouldn't expect from 4800+ Town fans after losing 5-0.

We have Jason Stockwood and Andrew Pettit to thank for our takeover in all seriousness. If you want, maybe I could tell you more about the club because a lot of the stuff that happens with us doesn't get a lot of attention, except that run and when we beat Wrexham 5-4 in the Play Off Semi Finals... in Wrexham! I was at the London Stadium to see Grimsby defy all the odds and get promoted despite finishing 6th in the regular season.
I'm Irish, but I've been keeping an eye on Rochdale this season. I was hoping you'd stay up. Even had notifications on my phone for your results. It's a sad way to end over a century of league football. Hopefully, you can bounce straight back up. But, we all know that the Conference is a tough league to get out of.
Such a refreshing thing to see about football ... your piece to camera at the end is exactly what supporting any team in any sport is about.
Wow this was a really well done video. Love this style of journalism. Great soundtrack too. Keep up the great work!
I remember for donkeys years Rochdale were stuck in League Two and then finally got to League One and now this....sad times.
I really appreciate your videos - thank you for all your hard work.
Thank you very much for this comment, makes me so happy
another great vlog to watch here in New Zealand to remind me of olde blighty well done as always Stunt Pegg
Your channel has taught me so much more about football that as an American fan watching the Premier League I'd never know. There's so much beauty in the experience of those lower tiers, it makes me wish American sports had promotion and relegation.
Feel for you Rochdale from an Oxford fan. National league is the hardest to escape from, but there is hope...however down you feel, your time will come again
