The scary business of being a male feminist

  • romoting gender diversity and inclusion is still very much a female profession, say WE/MEN founder Pirmin Meyer and member Nadine Jürgensen. Formed last year, the initiative wants to engage more men in ensuring an equal voice for women in public discourse, on podiums and in the media. Many men in Switzerland still find it “very scary” to call themselves a feminist, says Juergensen. “But there are role models for men as well where they can break out in this country.”

He says men are not present in the public discourse about gender equality. Yet at no point does he mention how frequently feminist alienate men from virtually any input of gender, except when that discourse agrees with the feminist narrative excessively demonizing men. Feminist constantly tell men, men's experiences and perspectives are not only not welcomed, but not needed, and when described, described as sexist, manplaining and proof positive that men are misogynists. If feminist ever bothered to attempt to understand the complexities and nuances of men and male identity (that will never happen of course) they would discover just how little they know about men, and that the feminist standard model of men is essentially an oversimplified demonized caricature they keep presenting as the absolutist definition of men and male identity

Men are in the discourse. We talk about making family court more fair, giving fathers equal rights over their children, and many other topics. But since that doesn't tow the feminist line of what counts as equality, it doesn't count. Male feminists need to be ostracized from society and much worse that would get be banned if I did it.

@@lawv804 Male feminists are simply men who gave up. By this I mean, they gave up a capacity to recognize men are complex and nuanced. Instead they accepted the oversimplified definition of what generally embodies male identity as determined by feminist caricatures of what determines all aspects of men's lived experiences. Most men may hope for a part in the discourse and among other men mention the importance of fathers and the value of husbands, this is ultimately meaningless within the legal and policy making spheres which continue to give exclusive deference to the feminist social narrative, a narrative that is the dominant feature within all aspects of mainstream discourse on the subject.

i’m so disappointed in these comments literally y’all are some of the many reasons feminism continues to exist today, y’all can jump out and say “well y’all can vote now so you good don’t complain” but it goes beyond that. feminism isn’t about female supremacy it’s about breaking down social inequalities & injustices the people complaining in the comments don’t understand what women go through every single day especially when walking down the streets or in an elevator with a man but not only that y’all don’t even try to educate yourselves enough to understand that feminism very strongly helps a lot of men out.. y’all complain about having higher suicide rates but have you ever asked yourself why y’all have higher suicide rates maybe it’s idk...exactly what feminism tries to help fix and deconstruct like men being told they can’t ask for help, get emotional, dress how they want? and all of that is deeply rooted in misogyny, and it’s weird that being a human being suddenly means ur not a man like if you truly think that you are a part of the problem it’s okay to ask for help sometimes and it’s okay to be expressive without being judged or labeled. im a white woman but my feminism includes WOC & trans women who have it even worse than i do so i listen and learn and do everything i can to not contribute to their suffering. do y’all ever stop and think that so many women complain for a reason and it’s not bc they just wanna be upset at something? we need to all start asking ourselves “why” and do some deep research before shitting on stuff we don’t understand i did that for BLM and i’m sure a good handful of you did as well i’ve never been in that seat yet i listened and i learnt. feminism is equalism call it whatever you want too it means the same thing. men are NOT simps or followers or lost puppies who can’t make decisions for themselves for becoming feminists in fact they are the opposite, they are aware they will get so much hate yet they took it upon themselves to understand the meaning behind the word feminism and decided to continue with the movement for themselves because they are people who want to help spread awareness and make changes to this toxic society if you think it’s all about sex for everyone you need to sit back and re-evaluate your life choices bc men wouldn’t risk that much hate for a little bit of fun or whatever tf? that is literally so sexist yet y’all continue to say women aren’t looked at as objects we victim blame women all of the time and worry about men’s lives being ruined after ruining a women’s... y’all think ur smart when u say “men catcall and go to jail this is what feminism does” yet men don’t really go to jail for actual rape and we always assume it’s bc women lie but it’s because the justice system has failed us, it’s because this “innocent till proven guilty” mentality when it comes to assault cases yet 1 in 5 women experience sexual assault usually from a man and when men experience sexual assault it’s usually from a man we are at a point where men are scared of other men if they don’t fit a specific standard, height, weight, demeanour etc. and back to “women who lie” that’s 2% of all cases and usually women do get shit on and in jail for it although a lot of those cases of women lying have enough evidence to prove they weren’t lying yet the men who actually assault/rape and get away with it never get shit on for it and even if they are proven guilty ppl still worry wether or not it will affect their future not to mention catcalling IS an issue so why ppl acting like it’s nothing to be held accountable for? even women don’t talk about being touched in public or being catcalled like it’s an issue bc they “don’t want to be dramatic about it bc it happens all the time to everyone anyway” like wtf?? and y’all think that’s normal...?? the only thing some ppl can think of is women having more legal rights over the kids they pushed out of their OWN bodies and btw in most countries they actually still don’t have those legal rights or the rights to vote... oh and the work argument suprise! it’s not about women who work harder often more white women, men of colour, white men are more likely to get places in ceo positions than women of colour which is a big issue and still a woman issue but a woman race issue but anyways y’all hate on the men who just want to make a change bc you feel emasculated for some reason idk i think these men are more masculine than all of y’all combine if it’s coming from a genuine place :/

So much of what you've written is completely inaccurate. You're using a clever feminist strategy of grouping together a lot of anecdotal comments on wider male concerns and decontextualizing them from the foundation of how and why men make those informal rather than strictly academic pronouncements. The lists of reasons you and other feminists are incorrect is long, some of which i will touch on.
      1. Feminism in theory is not feminism in practice.
Feminist like yourself, like to speak substantially about equality, social justice and gender equity as the root goal of feminist ideology. Yet in practice feminism concerns the expression of feminism in endless anti-male campaigns of prosecution and persecution, best exampled with an easily observed public shaping of social consciousness associating men and male identity with almost wholly negative associations. Masculinity is "toxic" Fathers are "nonessential to the family" Virtually any expression of straight male sexuality is "predatory" and defined in virtually only pathological terms. In practice feminists have led the way in some of the most anti-male public policy and legislation of which the modern nightmare of contemporary divorce and custody courts is utilized to destroy fathers and husbands in the name of satisfying the entitlement mentality of feminist orienting views that men's perspectives and lives have no tangible necessary value.
Feminism in practice resembles nothing of feminism in theory which has been discredited by easy observation.
      2 Feminism is reductionist.
Feminist uphold and maintain the most overly simplistic concepts of what determines men and male identity. Its easy to excoriate men as evil and demonic and "the problem" when the majority of all feminist rhetoric and social narratives reduce men and male identity to only rapist, oppressor and abuser." Its easy to reduce men as the exclusive problem of all of human history and society when men's contributions to elevating the quality of life, the arts, science, engineering and a myriad of other things is virtually never discussed in favor of constant demonization. Its no different than when the conservatives only reference black people with terms like "Thug," or "criminal" or the "threat to law and order." By never recognizing the contributions of blacks or in feminist rhetorical discourse, men's overall contributions to society and relationships, its easy to frame a narrative that ignores balance, context, complexity and nuance.
      Feminism is absolutist
The ideology of feminism is absolutist in its expression. In much the same way as Christian religions export the only path to moral and ethical salvation by exclaiming, "Only through Jesus is the truth and the light" Feminism exclaims through inference or exact expression of its ideology that Only through feminism can an individual recognize and accept the truth of anything and everything. Feminim projects an ongoing appointment to themselves that feminism and feminism alone has an exclusive monopoly on all higher morality and ethics, and feminist and only feminists are qualified to judge, define and determine the entirety of men's lived expereinces more than the men actually living their experiences. And more often than not the judgement is simplistic
to the point of caricature. The understanding of positive human potential, rights, equality and humanism is principally about ethics, not ideology. When a man rejects feminist ideology it is not because he doesn't believe in equality or social justice, its because he rejects a simple basic moral expression of ethics doesn't exclusively belong to any one singular ideology, like feminism. Only feminist and totalitarian and oppressive religions uphold the absolutist tradition of declaring if you don't endorse feminism then you don't endorse anything related to morality or ethics.
You say feminism isn't about female supremacy but breaking down social inequities...
Like much of feminist claims its more gaslighting than the reality of what is involved with social disparities. This is where the distinction of feminist theory and practice is most visible. Feminism absolutely preaches female supremacy. Observably, the majority of feminist discourse on gender routinely appoints only negative associations with men and male identity, while promoting infallible moral characteristics, positive associations with women. You will never hear an equal commentary on female culpability from feminists with the same zeal they run men down with all day, every day at every opportunity. Feminist don't work to break down social inequalities but rather manufacture more systems of female centric policies, legislation and social engineering aimed at designating men as deserving of less on merit and women more on privileged entitlement.
You claim feminist attempt to "deconstruct" men can't show emotions, dress like we want, or ask for help. etc..."
This is a typical feminist bad faith position because it relies on feminist appointing themselves a qualification of determining and judging and defining the lived experiences of men more than the men living them. It also promotes a feminist oversimplification and upholds a caricature of what men think feel and believe across all spectrums. Several hundred of years of books, plays, written philosophy, media articles and art have done a fantastic job of showcasing the diversity of how men precisely show emotions, ask for help, express tenderness and tolerance towards different expressions of human living. Brian's Song was a favorite film of men whose main plot is the friendship between two men coping with what happens when one gets cancer. No man who saw the film ever held it against another man or the film for the depiction of men crying, or showing tenderness towards each other. This is the hallmark of several examples from poetry to literature to day to day human interactions. This is also complex and nuanced, with communication spread across different communities with different cultural identities. But since feminist don't deal in recognizing male complexity and nuance and only with the caricature of men they've built over several decades, They look at an old Adam Sandler movie and appoint the depiction of men in those films as the derogatory standard of all men.
You like to throw around misogyny when judging the character of men These days "misogyny as used by a feminist has no more meaning than a slave owner on a plantation declaring the runaway slave is a racist against white people because he left the plantation and didn't accept what the slave owner decided was what defined his moral character. The definition of misogyny is essentially anything and everything as long as its referenced as anything men say or do that doesn't automatically communicate in action and deed unquestioned and uncritical deference to women on all levels. Misogyny is the feminist dog whistle to deflect from female culpability, and to maintain oversimplifications to avoid examining social issues objectively. These days a man is called a misogynists as the near exclusive rebuttal to any subject that doesn't include mindless subjugation to his own demonization at the judgment of a feminist. These days when I hear a feminist say a man or "rooted in Misogyny" I essentially put that in the same category as wacky fundamentalist bringing up Satan to blame for everything.
Thanks to advancements in DNA profiling, what has been uncovered in recent years is hordes of men who have been imprisoned or had their lives ruined on false allegations of rape. Yet feminist don't speak on this issue, instead choosing to conflate their definition of sexual assault , (which is anything)with rape until there is no distinction and for the purpose of keeping the falling numbers of rape up to justify an anti-male narrative of male reductionism. Since feminist don't sincerely believe in due process rights for men, it makes sense concepts like evidence and exculpatory evidence suggesting a man accused can be proven innocent rather than guilty. Like the conservative white supremacist in feminist ideals there is no such thing as a man that is innocent when accused by a woman. Its easy to play a numbers game with statistics on an inverted axis with self serving metrics of conflation and post modern relativism to come up with "only 2% of women falsely accuse men of rape and sexual assault. Objectively the numbers run significantly higher, because a false conviction of rape isn't counted as part of the statistic. When a man is discovered to have been innocent after his life has been ruined the new discovery is never added to the statistical numbers of false allegation.
Most men aren't concerned with what women do their bodies as long as those women accept personal responsibility for their own life choices and life decisions. Have as many babies as you want or not. Your body your choice, but not also my wallet your choice. Feminist love to demonize men in domestic violence while ignoring 50% of domestic violence comes from women against men. And while feminist trash talk men within women shelters, while advocating no money be spent on men's shelters, feminist conveniently choose not to mention 90% of all funding for women's shelters come from men. 99% of all funding for planned parenthood clinics come from men. 90% of all social and legal services benefiting women come from men. 95% of pro bono legal counselling is paid for by men. Feminist like yourself will never recognize what women contribute to the damage they do to men's lives, because unlike the inverse, women destroying men is socially accepted within the mainstream narrative of social progressivism and female empowerment.
