I am really glad that they gave the option to have the original videos. Yeah maybe Rand and Robyn weren't the best actors necessarily, but I still think their performances were very effective. When I played as a kid, the way that Sirrus and Achenar just felt "off" in the performances and how something felt weird about them (as if the characters themselves were also possibly putting on a "performance" and not being entirely truthful) really added to the sense of mystery for young me; I didn't know which one I could trust because they both felt creepy lol and the acting enhanced that for me personally as a kid.
Your reaction to discovering Sirrus' toothbrush at 58:09 has to be one of the best parts I've seen of your LPs. You always find something new if you look hard enough.
realMyst just has the toothbrush in a plastic/glass cup on the corner of the sink, and as shadyparadox put it in his LP: "...But at least it's good to know that Sirrus brushes his teeth. Wish the same could be said for Achenar, especially if he's going to record videos of his _mouth_ !"
The indentations on the bottoms of the wine bottles are called "punts." They're an indentation left by the glassblower to strengthen the mold. On a personal note, I've always heard that the deeper the punt, the more expensive the wine. I guess that fits, Cirrus would only drink the most expensive and finest wines available.
I first encountered the channel wood frogs walking back from the mill. The fact that such a dumpy little goober apparently snuck up on me made me laugh my ass off.

Having to close the elevator door is surprisingly safety conscious for Atrus!
I swear that in the original Myst, that elevator in the tree went way higher than that.

Channelwood is my favorite Myst Age. It is the most chill. I would feel most at home in this Age. Sign me up to for the tree house village, please.
And in this version they made Channelwood an emerald swamp?! They know how to make a Gator feel at home.
It's also more consistent with the Age's journal - Atrus mentioned the water changing colors before remaining permanently green.
Channelwood is sunnier than i remember.
And I feel so silly but even hearing Sirrus's message to his brother, I somehow still thought it had to only be one of the brothers when I played this game. Also, I'm glad that we're always (initially) greeted with Achenar's entire head when first entering the torture room. Seeing his disembodied lips hover in the air would be way too unnerving.
The message Sirrus left for Achenar is actually in the version used in realMyst. The original had words in a slightly different order.
Of all the changes made specifically for this version, the Channelwood linking chamber might be my favorite. The other "places of protection" have a distinct connection between themselves and the arrival spot for each Age, but Channelwood's didn't have that until now. It kind of feels like a prototype for the swapping mechanism in Obduction.
The missing slats on the bridges gives me Crash Bandicoot Road to Nowhere vibe. :)
Oh god, you're giving me flashbacks to trying to get the relics on those levels in the N. Sane Trilogy...
I'm so glad they fixed the generic looking characters issue. Bring back the real peeps!!
I will never understand why Achenar's rooms are simple and primitive, except for that one gadget.

The one in Mechanical was built by Atrus, so maybe Achenar just co-opted some of his holographic doodads.
I know Cyan is trying to make Achenar's room look primitive, but seriously, no human would tolerate such a precarious floor that high above the ground. Obduction has a similar problem, too. Small gaps and cracks between floorboards is one thing, but giant holes are quite another.
Man, even the water looks murkier.
Channelwood has always been m favorite age. It's the one that feels the most like people actually lived there. And the one that least feels like a set of puzzles to me.

Upscaled or not, the original videos of Sirrus and Achenar are much, MUCH preferable to those dreadful CGI head models.

1:02:32 Don't worry, Sven. There's a DnD miniature-making website that I use sometimes, where they occasionally bring new themed accessories. Once they updated it with ornate fairy clothes, armor, hand-held fairies (OoT "hey listen" style) etc. What was I excited about? A small featureless sphere, the size of an egg. That happened to be the exact thing I needed to complete the look of a character xD

Channelwood has always been my faviorite age in myst. Of all 4, it feels the least arbitrary and most believable as a 'real' place people could have lived. The others feel rather arbitrary, But still Riven does a better job with this.

Darn it! I forgot you could turn the wheel less and the tree would go down slower! I was screaming at the game on Saturday trying to figure out how to get into the tree before it descended too far! Thanks, Sven. I'll try it again this weekend.
If you're using full motion rather than teleport, you can move a lot faster. Even more so with the sprint button and with moving backwards rather than turning 180 degrees twice (the latter helps a lot with the spiral staircase too).

Didn't the tree elevator go more levels up in the original? I thought it was more than three booms off the ground.
The water in the book chamber makes me worry about the stability of every structure on Myst...

I don't hate watching VR mode, but I can't watch it properly. I have to play it on my second screen and can watch for a minute or 2 at a time, otherwise I get motion sickness. It's just as bad as if I was just playing VR directly

Did an update randomize the vault location? I played through at launch and it was in the default place still.
