Battery is only 2 years old, fan is clean and working, so can only assume lack of RAM (4Gb) is not enough to run Win10/64.. so will follow your excellent guide to get in and upgrade. Unit already has SSD and HHD but only 4Gb RAM so aiming for 2 x 8G

Hi, I have the same model and it comes with a ST1000LX015-1U7172-SSHD. To improve the speed, should I change to a 2.5" SATA SSD or M.2 SSD ? In either option, I would like to discard the current SSHD.
For the M.2 SSD option, the system will be able to recognise another new drive in Windows 10 which I can then clone to it using Macrium Reflect? Once I do that, I can take out the old SSHD and it can boot Windows 10 from the M.2 SSD? THanks in advance!

What is the model number of your laptop? I think you can not use Samsung 860EVO on this laptop, because it is V-NAND 3bit MLC.. and as per service manual this series of laptops only support TLC SSDs.. some of the owners who have used Samsung M.2 SSD found that their SSD is not recognised by the system..
Can you please confirm is it true? Did you face any such challenge after upgrade?
Are you using your hard drive as well or only using SSD?
Please reply so that it can help others looking for upgrade..

    @nitingaikwad30 Před 5 lety +2

Very nice and skillful execution.. I have couple of questions..
    1) I heard HP BIOS prevents you to upgrade any thing except RAM that too if it is written in service manual. E.g. mine is x360 14ba073tx with 8GB RAM.. it's manual says there are two slots and we can add maximum of 4GB extra memory, totalling to 12GB max..
Also, though there may be an M.2 slot, it might be in a blocked state through BIOS..
    Is it true?
    2) Did you face any issue after first boot? How did you manage to unlock the BIOS advanced settings?
I believe you must have added that 128GB M.2 to be used at boot drive.. then how did you make original HDD/SSHD a secondary or slave drive?
    3) How did you transfer original windows from HDD to new M.2 SSD?
    4) Does it support NVMe?
    5) Why not used two sticks in dual channel mode?
    6) and lastly, How's the performance after upgrading both RAM and HDD?
Please provide details so that it will help all.. Thanks in advance..

      yes and no,
SSD and HDD are not blocked by HP,
expansion cards like wifi/bluetooth are blocked but certain bards HP uses are whitelisted by all their bioses, this is why i installed a differend wifi card for my HP Pavilion gaming laptop,
original it had a single antenna realtek card and upgraded to an intel dual antenna with 5G support.
