JLWii2000 Lionel HO Polar Express Review: • Lionel HO Polar Expres... - Zábava
when he was joking about the whole "two rails are not realistic" i thought he was gonna mention the gap of no ties in between the track pices.
Same
My first HO review! Bloopers and Outtakes are at the end of the video. Apparently, a lot of model railroaders don't have a sense of humor, so I'll just come out and say it: The 3-Rail comment at 16:45 is joke!
I have ho and o scale/o gauge
Thanks! I guarantee there's gonna be somebody who doesn't know it's a joke. That's gonna be funny.
Yep, one guy already went off on me thinking I was being serious. Hehe.
Really, the best part of the jokes is reading the whining in the comments. That's when you know you have success.
I don't know the extent of your "wittiness," but you could throw one of the little jokes in every once in a while. Your "first" one was terrific. Excellent idea to expand to another scale. Not a bad set for a "starter" set. Will they offer matching cars like baggage, RPO, etc.? Hey! It's Dec. 14, 2019 here in St. Joseph, MO.
As a HO scale guy who has been enjoying your channel for a long time I will give a big stamp of approval. I’m glad you are branching out into other scales.
Alco Power Thanks!
Hmmmm could it be that Lionel is coming out with a Cajun set- maybe a freight set with a hot sauce tank car, cayenne pepper hopper car and a caboose with an alligator brakeman and they but that passenger set in the wrong box????
I would buy a ticket to ride even tho I am from Georgia.
Actually kind of cool that Lionel "Re dressed" the Polar Express starter set. Alot of people dont realize that the Santa Fe actually did run 2-8-4 Berk's in the 40s. And they are fairly hard to find in HO! Im sure 40s-50s ATSF modelers are happy to be able to get one for fairly cheap and weather them up. good video!
Nice idea and I’m hoping they make more engines than just Berkshires
The bloopers at the end are a must-watch.
So it’s a repaint of the PE, but it looks nice
That’s Because it used to be an AT&SF Train
Yes it actually is
Yes, some people make jokes about the fact that it’s a repaint of PE, but it does look nice with the livery!
1:39 I don't know if you noticed that santa fe is written sante fe 😂😂
Love that you’re getting into HO now! Hope to see some other scales down the line. Keep it up, man!
"I shall call him... Mini Me!"
Love that Austin Powers reference. Those movies are the best.
As someone who has struggled with MTH realtrax assembly and take down, this magnalock business is pretty lit.
Wow finally someone made a review on these underrated ho scale lionchief set besides the polar express.
I just got the Lionel HO New York Central train set that came the same time I was watching your video. I was disappointed in one thing and mine came with track that is snapped together instead of the magnetic lock. I didn’t realize that they were using different types of track although It wasn’t that bad connecting the track. I have always been into Lionel O gauge trains although when we moved to Florida I had to put most of the bigger engines are in a climate controlled storage building which includes my B&O EM1 and Pennsylvania T1. Some of the smaller trains and transformers were lost when a hurricane named Ian trashed our house and our belongings except for a few clothes my niece got out and cleaned. The train gives me some connection to my old trains and I know it isn’t like the O gauge although with the sounds of the chuffing bell and whistle it will make Christmas seem more like the past.
Thanks for doing the review that was very interesting and got me ready to run mine.
Ed
Nice to see that Lionel is making multiple Gauges now! I want one of these HO Scale sets
Great video Eric! I'm a o scaler myself, but I do enjoy seeing other scales in operation! Keep up the good work! Thanks for sharing! Have a great and awesome day!
Thanks!
Great review, Eric. Nice to see you dabbling in HO Scale. That track system is brilliant. The reason HO scale track has two rails is due to the space constraints. It's a trade-off, but us HO guys have learned to deal with it. ;)
Lionel should make ho scale visipn line engines. Oh, and that 3 rail joke was hilarious!
I thought that joke was hilarious as well. I wonder if Lionel will make any other train sets, but with diesel locomotives.
HO vision line would be impossible. The engines are too small
I think HO vision line would be a possibility. Check out some of the HO Broadway Limited Imports engines. They have full sound sets, smoke, and even disappearing coal load in one of the large steam locomotives.
@@ChrisBookeBass think about the size of the locomotive though, how would you fit all the features of vision line into an ho scale engine. It's literally half the size of an o gauge engine
@Jason The Tank Engine yeah, we need that too.
I have to agree! That 2 rail REALLY looks odd. 🤔😂
As always, another great review and video.
I also wanted to mention that cajon in southern california is home to the famous cajon pass, where there were three seperate train accidents
Sweet! Excited to see more of this from Lionel, I will definitely invest!
OH, great. Just when I thought I had enough trains and track. Great job.
Dagnabbit! Now I want a Cajun set! Tabasco car and other assorted brands from down the bayou. Yeah boy. Great ending! 🤣
I would have to get a Tabasco car.
Thanks for the review. I'm an HO guy and was wondering about the set. The magna-lock track looks awesome. Also I love the "out-takes" and jokes at the end. Keep up the good work!
I recommend to look up some Ho scale modeler reviews on it.
LOVE the train set! Thank you for the video!
Love the Star Wars reference at the end
Yay! I've wanted to see someone review this!
That thing with the 1225 and the little Ho Engine was pretty funny! Great video Eric!
Strictly Steam it is 1225 in its former AT&SF Scheme
Great little set. And I agree, one of the best parts is opening the box.
Happy to see ho scale on the channel for a change
Great video Eric, Merry Christmas. Great review and I like what Lionel has done with the track, especially for temporary solutions. Keep in mind though HO has gotten really involved like O scale it will be cool to see some future reviews of yours for some DCC systems, other companies such as Atlas, Rapido, Broadway Limited. Whatever you decided in the future though, for what's next I always like watching your content even though I do HO now, what you have done with O can be applied to most other scales.
Nice job on this review, Eric. Even though I'm an O Gauge buff, even I sometimes branch out to different gauges.
Also, that Star Wars reference. XD
Thanks
You should have a transformer controlled layout for pre-postwar trains.
That 3-Rail joke was brilliant. Kudos!
Awesome video I loved the bloopers at the end
Impressive sound for a starter set. Especially in HO!
I'm an HO guy myself and let me tell you this is the Bentley of HO scale trains even though it's a starter set it is very very very nice and I love it and I wish I had it.
Thanks
set looks pretty awesome..thanks eric
I’m glad that Lionel is getting into ho scale again. True they’re known for o scale, but ho has been popular for some time due to its size. Some people just don’t have the room for even an traditional o scale train set
Eric great revew the thing that cracked me up was that you made the star wars reference with the HO and O scale 2-8-4
Great review man, thanks a lot. I just got the New York Central Waterlevel Limited version of this set and love it. It's a great set, feels good, not cheap. I hope HO makers try's to make a effort to make detailed engines like the lionel legacy trains. Working classifaction lights, the reds, greens, oranges, and light up cabooses with the lamps. Seen some people mod them online, but I want something out of the box. I don't have the room and money for a O gauge layout, but those O gauge steam engine you have, with all the lights and detail are so amazing.
Thanks!
Nice HO review Eric!!!
i own the o gauge thomas set and once i custom set the sounds on the app and deleted it, it still sounded as i set it even though i used the controller. amazing
The whistle on this engine is the same whistle on my O-Scale Polar Express!
Do you have the lioncheif polar express?
Yes
As it should be
@@KidCrazer14 I have the same one. I personally think that the lioncheif locomotives are much better
The very end was priceless.
Thanks!
Amazing review! Lol “Tracks have 3 rails in real life” 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I liked the Star Wars reference at the end. Overall, a very excellent review.
Thanks!
Glad I found your Channel and Subbed. I'm trying to get back into Trains and I'm hoping to start by Recreating my Childhood Train Set.
My Dad, distraught over the loss of my Mother, threw out everything when he sold our Family Home in' 04.
I don't know why I always do this kind of stuff when I have no Money to even think about undertaking this project.
I've pretty much found everything that I used to have.
Mike Jordan thanks!
good thing none of my videos have anything to do with the polar express either, luckily.
the only thing Lionel's HO Scale trains are missing is a smoke unit! many other maufacturers put smoke units in HO Scale trains, especially steam locomotives!
There are smoke units you can put into ho scale locomotives I think but my question to you is would you want to risk damaging a $300+ locomotive just to add a smoke unit
The engine is really cool. What I like the most is the magnalock tracks.
Here in my garage, got this new Lionel Cajon Flyer Set. But do you know what I like more than model trains, more model trains! LOL
I've got my first (and only) train set in HO scale that sits in my parent's attic still, I got it as a Christmas gift like sixteen years ago. This HO starter set looks like its about a million times easier to set up. That said my New York Central Flyer set, if i'm not mistaken actually was made of metal (not the tender) and had a smoke unit. Give and take I guess.
I am so confused now, 2 rails 3 rails arrghhh ! Not to mention HO, S, OO, G, Z, N, and O !!! I think I am going to build my layout with one of each of these gauges on it, that way there everyone will be happy. BTW another great job Eric, thanks.
Very cool set, for a starter 👌
When I had ho I had a few cars that the couplers was part of the tricks. Mostly was 86ft cars
Nice! Love your videos!😁😁😁😁😁
Nice to see you branch out and do other gauges/scales Eric. Even though my Dad and I are N-gauge modelers, we have a sense of humor so no need to worry about making a mistake as it happens to anyone.
Thanks!
For your first HO video this is great! The upcoming new run of the HO Berks *should* change the appearance of the locomotive from what I’ve heard. Separately applied handrails, flying numberboards, and a realistic pilot so the locomotive looks more like a Lima Berkshire than a scaled down O-27 locomotive.
27:56 Love the skit at the end of that, got a good kick out of it.
😮if I ever end up expanding my layout I want to completely convert to the magtrack
Thank you for make a video on HO scale
Eric it's sad that some in this hobby loose their sense of humor if Lionel is even mentioned,I enjoyed your review as I always do,happy railroading until next time.
Perfect! Just perfect!
Love that track
You have balls to make jokes like that there’s a lot of model railroaders that don’t know what laughter is
Cool Train Set.
I got this se t 7/8/22 and started to mess with it and it's nice! I love this set
Cool!
"I am your Father"! No, no it's not true.... LOVE THAT! Keep up the great work!
13:15, I've got a random assortment of cars that both have truck mounted couplers and body mounted couplers, I'm not sure which is actually more common. My trains have a more simple coupler style, though in the future I want to build my own set using trains the couplers shown on this set.
27:56 my last 2 brain cells at 2am
Is it me or does the "Ready" Sound from the Loco sound like the beginning of the First full of Dollars theme?
Hell, i might buy this! Getting tired of my power packs dying on me.
Marker lights are on the rear of a train. Lights on the front of a locomotive are classification (class) lights.
Review more HO scale Lionel model trains it's good that you reviewed something different then the ho Polar Express I hear that like about a thousand times
You know that the "j" makes the "h" sound in "Cajon".
nice set
I want that! I love steam locomotives!
It's like Lionel thought HO was some crazy tiny scale like Z when they were designing this set, the engine is very basic even by HO standards.
The magnetic track is so cool, though!
Yeah those details are pretty chunky, even by by Z standards.
@@dexecuter18 those are some *thick handrails*
@@RockyRailroadProductions_B0SS Good for kids though. Modern HO feels like it's falling apart in you hands, and honestly it basically is... I can't tell you how many horns I've accidentally broken off at my HO club
@17:03 had me for a sec then I laughed 🤣
My LGB people are going to need a grand scale backyard railroad. I hope Lionel does freight cars and turnouts or the locos are compatible with other HO rolling stock.
Clever track system.
I cant wait to see somebody do an over and under with this track. lol
Hmmm.Thats interesting thought.
I may purchase the polar express ho train set since i have more o than ho. I recommend nce power cab dcc set
so nice
Hahaha the o gauge locomotive talking to the ho locomotive
Are there MagnaTrack switches and crossings? That would make it worth it.
Do more Santa Fe diesels like the c44-9w and the Santa Fe sd40
Since It's Lionchief, couldn't you power the On30 line and run it on thst part of your layout?
Nice!
You should run this train on your on30 layout.
Nice review, Eric. Maybe a little long with the unpacking at the beginning. You usually don't do unpacking for your O scale reviews, but that was nice to see the full package. As for the product itself, I'm Hugh? Does Lionel expect to sell many of those "starter" sets? I was honestly expecting more from Lionel after seeing their Vision line in O scale. I definitely won't get this set, that's for sure. Maybe there is a market for these low quality starter sets but, in HO these days, it seems that most manufacturers are trying to make their models as prototypical as possible, even though the price might be higher, and it seems to work for them, Athearn, Broadway Limited Imports, Rapido, Bowser, etc. Even MTH has some nice locomotives and cars in HO. The only manufacturer that seems to aim for the low budget customers is Bachmann. I'm hoping that Lionel will get in the HO competition, they certainly have the skills and the know-how. The passenger cars with the silhouettes are a little old. Like Like had those about 30 years ago. Nice touch the back light on the observation car, though. All and all, I'm a bit disappointed by this Lionel offering. I like their track system, though. Probably one of the best "easy" track system out there.
Athearn/Roundhouse mount the couplers to the trucks on passenger cars.
Truck-mounted couplers are known as "Talgo Trucks."
1:11: Did anyone else notice that Santa Fe was also misspelled on the box? The box said SantE Fe.
Also, at 3:36 they misspelled MagneLock as MageLock. Get it together!
So, if you have a large layout with multiple trains every engine will have it's own remote?
So does this mean youll be adding an HO section to the layout?
You can SORTA quill the whistle by adjusting the pitch.
In my opinion, Lionel is amazing at O scale trains; but in other scales, not quite.
MTH, Bachmann, and some others are really great when it comes to HO scale. They have some really detailed steamers. Additionally, they have a much broader roster to choose from.
Five bucks says that the sensor on the tender wheel quarters the chuffing with the drivers so perfectly because the tender wheel is probably 1/4 the circumference of the driving Wheels
If you'll be doing HO reviews from time to time, I'd be interested in your take on the BLI 2-8-0 with smoke & sound.
Yeah BLI has to be the best with SMOKE!
If you play with the pitch of the whistle it's like it's Quilible
Cool 😎
