I’ve had dinner with Brad at his home when I was a student at BYU. He’s the real deal. A true man of God.
I remember one day at BYU I was feeling just down and alone, and I passed by Brad. He just gave me such a genuine smile with so much love, didn't even say anything. I didn't even realize who he was at the time. It really improved my day and I'll always remember that experience, thanks Brad.

He passed me and my husband in the SLC airport at midnight we were rushing to our gate with our two little children who were sleeping on our shoulders and with so much love, he kindly encouraged us by saying “You got this. You’re doing great! Keep going” and that comment went way beyond the current situation it was the encouragement that I needed in my life in general at that time and I know it was God’s way of reminding me that He was aware of me and my little family. 🥹

@@haydenhodges34 I'm sorry if that's what you've come to the conclusion of. That's not been my experience with him and his words. I don't worship him by any means and recognize he surely is an imperfect man but are we not all sinners? Regardless of your personal opinion on him (a side note, I know many people of color who hold him in a high esteem) his words helped me that night to feel God's love for me. And I'm not saying because it was him (my comment is relevant because of the content of the video) that is why it was from God, anyone making that comment to me that night would have made me feel the same way. God works through all sorts of people. May God be with you and may you feel His presence in your life as well and not miss His messages for your because of a hardened heart.

Brad’s mom was my 2nd grade teacher and was the most loving and kind teacher I ever had. He is definitely his mother’s son!
Best interview yet. I’ve seen some folks complain about Elder Wilcox online, exaggerating their issues with him. After this, I can see the kind of man he is - a disciple of Jesus Christ who exemplifies his charity and mission. What a guy.

About 20 years ago, Brother Wilcox came to our stake and gave a talk. Afterwards we had a dance and I saw him get out there and dance with the kids (obviously no slow dancing). I admired him for that.
I met Bro. Wilcox at a Stake Women's Conference. I was there as support for the Audio/Video as it was part of my calling on the High Council. I've met a lot of General Authorities, and this was before he was called to the Young Men's Presidency. I had listened to his talk, His Grace is Sufficient, many times. It will forever be in my top 10 as it succinctly taught me how we should understand grace.
So I shook hands with him and made sure we had everything set up for him. I watched him very closely the whole time. He was always smiling! Every time the organist completed a son, he turned, patted her on the arm, and complimented her. After the meeting, he shook everyone's hand who wanted to meet him. I waited for a while and then jumped in to see if I could talk to him, and get a picture. He gleefully agreed to my request.
He was so kind, patient, and happy, everything you would see in a man who gave that talk I so dearly love. I don't know him personally, but I love him. He portrays what a true follower of Jesus Christ should portray. He's been a huge blessing in my life ever since then because I can look back to another great example of the kind of person I should be.
We always need to put Christ first in our lives. The next needs to be loving and honest in our lives with those around us. THANK YOU brother Wilcox!!!
I'm preparing a lesson for the most important celebration in the universe, Easter. I did a CZcams search for "Brad Wilcox and his thoughts about Easter" (I didn't get to it yet) . I got sidetracked and started listening to his interview with the awesome Stephen Jones. I never knew the fact that he lived his first 7 years of life in Ethiopia. What insights. He is a committed individual that God has placed on earth to be a humble, funny, wise, compassionate servant -- especially to the youth. How blessed to have this kind of man in the world
I love how he said, The only thing I can do is be real. I feel the same way. I do relate very much to a child seeking love still. I have sought love in some destructive places in the past and I can testify that the Savior can turn that place of destruction into a haven of love and mercy to all those that repent of their destructive ways.
I see that as I’m passing through the veil, I’m not perfect. But I’m going further because I’m going through the Savior, who is perfect. He recommends me to our Father. Beautiful symbolism.
Another great interview! Who knew all of this about Brad Wilcox? We rarely get to see the personal side of leaders in the church or the many others you interview. Bringing others to Christ and sharing the good news with each interview. Information that others just aren't able to capture. Such an intimate feeling across the tv screen.....you capture every time. You have the gift of bringing out the best in each person you interview. No wonder it's called "Let's get real!" So real.....every time! Scripture central has hired a gem! @@LetsGetRealSJ Im 23 with 2 kids and just finished my first semester as a full time Seminary Teacher. I love teaching seminary a ton but lately my family has been wondering if the sacrifice is worth it. As Brother Wilcox was speaking about his experiences with teaching, it reminded me why I'm doing what I'm doing.
I especially loved his message on the law of sacrifice and consecration. When he said that he could consecrate his youth to the Lord, I felt the spirit testify to my heart that that is what I can do. Being a young dad and a seminary teacher, there are many things I get to sacrifice. I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn about these two special covenants and learn first hand how they bring me closer to the Savior. Sometimes life feels like I'm juggling, but I am learning how true joy does not come from the world, but from focusing on the Savior.

I was at TOFW one year and I had cancer and wore a beanie to the conference so it was evident. The following year I attended and I went to the bathroom and had to pass the front row which had the speakers that were listening to the current speaker. As I walked by he said to me, “I’m so glad you are here..” Now I’m sure he just said it for no reason but for a brief moment it reminded me that I was glad I was there….that I survived my biggest battle. For a second i thought, “does he remember me?” I know he didn’t but I was so taken back and it just made me grateful that I was there…..
So the next year
Brother Wilcox, I was having a really bad evening, with many tears but your interview brought me out of it!! To much gratitude for my Savior!!! Only with Jesus are we worthy!!!

@LetsGetRealSJ Brother Wilcox was my son's 5th mission president (long story) in Santiago Chile East. President Wilcox came in and stabilized that mission. He was their when Elder Holland was their and Elder Oaks wss in the Philippines. My son loves that man. Tremendous interview. It amazes me how the destroyer works. Comments here, I can only smile. Brad Wilcox’s powerful devotional talk on His grace being enough changed my perception of the Church’s erroneous policy that members must first work and do all they can do and Christ would make up the rest: His Grace Is Enough.
It’s a misunderstanding of that verse. “After all we can do” means in spite of what we do, meaning we are saved by grace and not our works. Works will determine our reward after this life, but not our salvation.

When I was a teenager I was so insecure I didn't make one single friend in Highschool. Now I am 40, and have never been in a single relationship.All my friends from college have moved on, gotten married, etc. There are few people who have experienced the loneliness I feel....some of the younger generation may feel some lonliness, but I don't believe it holds a candle. Not that it is a competition.

People can be mean. There are many days I wish I didn't have to associate with anyone. There are very few relationships worth keeping, in my opinion. Wish we lived close. I would love to be friends with someone who seems to value a relationship.

How do you cope? My world was in books for most of my youth.

This is an amazing discussion. I am not through with it yet, but I just had to interject. Today in Sacrament Meeting, the Sacrament Prayers were in Chuukese and a baby was blessed in Spanish. This is a Ward in the Longview Washington Stake in Southwest Washington State. The Church is truly international.
I love this man and his authentic perspective! He makes me feel soooo normal.

I love this guy's message but I still haven't forgiven him for making me sing a primary song verse he made up with my entire graduating class at BYU-I! My family drove in for that, man 🤣 Great message, Bro Wilcox and Steven! FSY was an incredible experience for me as a counselor, and I'll forever be humbled and honored by my opportunity to be a part of that sacred 2022 year, for all my shortcomings.
I used to be in Brad's ward when I was a teenager. His energy and love have followed me in my memory ever since. I wish I had known that about him playing in _My Turn on Earth_ ! That's a favorite in our house.
The need for validation... I've been hearing a lot from therapists (maybe more from their disciples) lately about how it's better to learn to self-validate, or to be emotionally self-sufficient. I took the Church's Emotional Resilience class last year and there was a lesson on validation that seemed to directly contradict things I've heard even from LDS therapists.
I've been thinking about this a lot lately: the atomisation of Enlightenment Liberalism and Progress Theology. The wish to find mortal human beings with whom it might be safe to open up, and the appeal of concluding that's impossible and that it's much safer to keep yourself closed off - to people, anyway. The verses about Jesus being our Friend mean a lot more to me than they used to. If you can't rely on people to understand and validate you, you can at least rely on God.
That part about juggling was very inspiring, thank you.
You are 100% correct about the misunderstanding of validation. I clear the subconscious trauma caused by toxic shame.
Solid core level love for yourself provides that internal validation.
External validation needs is a cup that is never filled.

Too bad I can't afford any kind of therapy.
The church is so far behind the times when it comes to the types of therapy that really help people. EMDR therapy is a great way you can deal with trauma.

Thank you. That role changed my life. I always told myself if the opportunity ever showed up again in any way, I would take it no matter what. It was an honor to help tell his story. It helped me see forgiveness in a different way and I couldn't help but realize after all Elijah went through he stayed. He wasn't perfect, but kept holding on. I feel a responsibility to do "my part". but as Bro Wilcox alludes to that essentially means saying yes, accepting and seeking His grace ongoing, letting God prevail. Acknowledging that I am better w Christ.
Stephen, of course, Brad Wilcox is spot on about the ‘New Epidemic’ and sadly this epidemic has been exponentially growing for 100 years. The root cause of this epidemic that no one is talking about is ‘Toxic Shame’. Toxic shame in our very early years is what leads us to not love ourselves to our core. Not loving ourselves to the core leads to anxiety, procrastination, depression, addiction and other maladies.
My mission in life now is to help people clear this trauma of toxic shame and teach themselves to love themselves to the core.
Trauma is not what happens to you, it is how you feel about what happens to you.
Would it be worth while to explore the sources of the shame, that result in trauma?
Thank you for sharing this. Trauma and shame is a huge issue in our day. Shame is a focus on self, whether by others or ourselves. For me, I've found the more I focus on Christ, the more easy it is to handle (Matthew 11:28-30). It isn't easy for us but it is for Him. Easier said than done though.
stoicism teaches this. It is not what happens to you but how you interpret what happens to you. The culture of the last 30 years in the USA have created victim mentalities.

Love the video. One note to make though, when the people were chanting "line of Juda" it was not to somehow say he is replacing Jesus. They believe that their kings are direct descendants from King Solomon, who was obviously of the line of Juda. True or not you will never convince them otherwise.

I grew up NON LDS. I never heard that 4 letter word starts with "L". The family was toxic beyond your imagination, to say the least. I am not married, and feel beyond hope because of the requirements for exaltation. Be grateful for your normality. There are people in this world who suffer beyond your capacity to believe or imagination. I don't like being condemned to the Devil's domain because I can't say that word and lack humanity and Christ like qualities.
Well, we also teach that God understands your situation and will give you more chances to fulfill those requirements. There's more hope than you think, you just need to push your hand farther down instead of letting it float on the surface of what you think is the case

I don’t believe in anything the Church leaders say anymore except for those things that are actually helpful. I don’t believe in surrendering critical thinking to these humans at the head of the Church, people who practice double-speak, who do perverse things sometimes (looking at you, Paul H Dunn, who used to be my hero till I found out his amazing stories were lies) and deserve public criticism. When they say nice things that actually encourage positive self-esteem without caveats (e.g. only if you do as we say and perform rituals that we prescribe and follow the Word of Wisdom, in which over-eating is as much a sin as drinking alcohol), then fine, but I also find such encouragement from non-LDS sources too. Ok… so all church leaders are guilty of Paul H. Dunn’s actions? You seem to be holding them to an unrealistic standard. Not believing ANYTHING the church leaders say is as bad as what you’re professing they are guilty of. How about this: don’t put them on pedestals, don’t demonize them, still use critical thinking, and be appreciative that they’re willing to take criticism like yours and remain steadfast.
@@bballer2324ify Nope. Not all. Its the Church that says ALL Church leaders must be respected and never criticized. Other Church leaders remain my heroes. Its never an all or nothing scenario, but the Church does teach that all leaders must never be criticized. I’m not gonna do that. Dunn sure deserved criticism, public or private (I really did love the guy), and the next leader that lies or has questionable ethics will get the same from me. I am not interested in blasting my views publicly or in social media, but this video triggered me. This is the first time for me and sure got aggravated.

What Sunday school class can we actually speak out loud out disagreeing with the canceling the word Mormon or problematic aspects of embellished stories by dr Nelson for faith.
