    I believe it was an actual 1953 Ford pick up that my dad had. He taught me how to drive stick with it. Great memory.

    Cool video. The mpc spirit of 57, 57 chevy with the flip front end shares the same chassis and engine as these trucks. Great chassis for gasser or streak freak projects

    I've built that MPC 53 Ford when I was a kid. I loved those spoked wheels. I didn't paint it or anything. It was just a gluebomb, but it was a fun kit to build.

    I still have the MPC version I built in the late 80’s - not in great shape, though all parts are still there. The more I think about it the more I want to build another with the “skills” I’ve acquired over time - seeing these in your videos just increases that desire.

    Talking about smell! Alot of them kits did have a great smell back in the day! And you and other builders from back in the day will remember.
    Just like the Cherry Bomb kit back in the day!

    Hi Matt! Don’t forget AMT also has a stock version of the 53, without the flip nose. Most recently as a Coca-Cola pick-up with Coke machine. Also earlier as a 3n1 kit with custom and service options. An iconic body style . I love the look I’ve built some over the years have a few in my “cue” line. Fun video.

    I built the 53 MPC. I don't remember when, but I remember that box. It's sad that I don't have any models left from when I was younger.

    I built the original and reissue AMT '53 Ford P/U. You're '53's appear to be nice kits. Thanks Matt for doing the comparison on these two trucks.

    The 1969 Barracuda kit was a MPC kit that was released as an AMT kit when Racing Campions owned them, also The Monkee Mobile was a MPC kit that was released as an AMT kit.

    in 79 it was that very kit my brother was building , that i kept steeling to play with, that got me into building models, only days after he bought me my 1st kit, the revell 55 chevy snap-tite kit, been building ever since, i did a couple of years ago grab one of teh walmart versions at auction to build into the very black one, also got decals from a guy to do it as such,. truth, you will find teh revell kit sucks compared to teh amt/mpc version as the parts are really thin and teh kit is finicky, the amt/mpc kits build up very smooth and easily, good video

    Great video. Again!! I'm up in age... and have 4 or 5 of those kits. Fun to build and modify. Only part of the kit not happy with is front axle is little flimsy... Revell kit is a 56. Amt mpc 53. Monogram has a 55. Truck and panal van. And ofcourse Revell. Foose 56. Keep up the great job bud. Excited for your next build and 👍👍👍🛵🚚🚛🚘🚗🚙🛻🦧🍌🙏

    Definately fun kits. I've built a couple of those flip nose pickups. One was the original 74 issue. My dad had a real 53 pickup so they were something special for me to build. Amt also had a regular pickup version of the 53. As I remember just a couple very minor quirks but overall goes together very nicely. Love the channel!

    I built the MPC in the early 90s. (the AMT is a rebox of the MPC) wasnt a bad build, the front end sits too low though so you have to lift the model kit up to open the hood. Only issue I remember.

    I like these also, never own one, but I have been looking for these. Revell had also that 56 in HOTROD magazine series, I have been trying to get as many as I can (two so far hehe) mainly gassers and street machines. Very cool kits and box arts.

    I remember my dad building the early MPC 53 flip nose kits when I was pretty young. I honestly think that’s what sparked my interest in model building. If I recall it was molded in purple? I’d like to find one of those to build.

    Cool video Matt, I had an AMT kit, I think I mentioned it in a past video, it was warped too badly to attempt a build. I currently have a 56 Panel truck, I believe it’s a Revell. It’s the Harley Davidson model.

  • @MasteringTheModel
    @MasteringTheModel Před 2 lety +1

    I remember building the MPC kit in maybe '87?... give or take a year. What I remember is the kit wasn't too bad to build, not perfect, but not as bad as some kits I remember from that period. I did purchase that same MPC kit a couple years back with plans of a nostalgia build.
    Maybe we can have a MPC/ AMT/ ERTL '53 Ford pickup build off?

    Hi Matt Fred minier noted that the mpc57 Chevy and the mpc truck has the same frame and motor, he's right also in the mid 70s there was a Datsun flip nose pickup that had the exact same motor frame and front and rear suspension and ladder bars as the 57chevy and53 Trucks and another guys commented on the smell you got when you opened a new kit, that was a wonderful smell, I think you don't get it anymore cause of the baged parts,,,, love the bags but miss the smell of fresh styrene,,oh yeah

  • @paintnamer6403

    I built the AMT '53 Ford pick up when it was in their StreetRods series and no flip front. That had the optional DeSoto Fire Dome hemi with eight short direct fuel injection stacks or a log manifold with for eight carbs. My '56 Revell Ford kit had the Thunder Bird stock four barrel Y block or a super charged Pontiac V8 and no stock wheel option just CenterLines and Good Year slicks. The Foose FD-100 by Revell say that it was Chip's father's 1956 F100 that he customized and that has a nice Ford FE series single four barrel engine, like a 390 - 428. I do not know if this was ever sold as the '53, it is not anything like the '56 kit I bought in the mid seventies. Ok bye.

    I had someone tell me that this model (the first pop in photo) was made off the '57 flip nose Chevy. If you look at the chassis and motor and wheels...they are the same. Check it out. Wonder if the chassis will fit each other?

  • @michaelhintzmikesminiature1812

    Great video Matt, and it was quite interesting. I have only built one of the `53 Ford pick ups, and that is the blue AMT kit with an ordinary hood, not the flip front. That one went together without any problems, its a nice kit. Thanks for the video, and keep up the good work buddy 😀

    Mat , I have built the Revell 53 ford truck,the fit of that kit was awful, flash on everything 😠, a lot of sanding and trimming to get good fit and finish, but that's part of model building 👍

  • @CycolacFan
    @CycolacFan Před 2 lety +1

    The flip nose version apparently shares most, if not all, its chassis with the MPC ‘57 Chevy sedan. I’m presuming the Chevy came first and the pickup was a cheap way of combining parts to get a new kit.
    Does the MPC flip nose F100 share its bodywork moulds with the stock AMT F100?
