I've mentioned it before, but an HR woman at my job is from the US. First time I spoke to her I didn't even notice her American accent until she mentioned that she was from the US. So it is certainly possible for Americans to learn Swedish really well. She moved here in -95 so she has of course had some time to learn, but you'll also have the time!
Oh, and midsummer is really about the summer solstice, celebrating the longest day and the shortest night of the year, or the Northernmost position of the sun in the sky for the more astronomically inclined.

Indeed. But also social codes of conduct. Especially so in the anxious middle class. And also in a conformist consensus culture like the Swedish. Being born here, I still struggle a bit to fit in nicely ;)

I can imagine me as a swede moving to America, espacially in the south like Tenneesee, Mississippi, Louisiana.
But i can not imagine myself already living in the American south moving to Sweden.
So i think you are very brave and courageous woman, especially as young as you are.
I can understand if you are above 60+ and want to move away from big America, big cities and just wanna relax and settled down somewhere else.
    Keep going strong 💪.
    P.S tomorrow it's valentines day, don't forget that 😀
And one more thing before i go 😀.
You can speak SWEDISH pretty well, i heard you when you did that video " speaking swedish all day" and that was ages ago.
Don't doubt yourself, you doing fine 😀

Im a child to immigrants born here in malmö. and honestly, I spent my whole life to blend in, and although I do not consider this that much, Its always somewhere in the back that to some swedes ur never gonna be completely swedish. In a sense America is much more open to immigrants. Once u make it there no one is gona pass u on a interview for having a greek name or whatever.
You could always ask ur followers to hang out, u have allot of friends here online, I would love to take out for coffee or an ice cream. :)
Another thing u can do is start going to places like Kallis for example. There people are very social in the sauna and u don't even need to speak, u can just listen to the conversation.
If u like climbing, klättercentret seems to be full of english speaking people, kind of like a expat hotspot for some reason.
At the end of the day having hobbies is the way to socialise. I roller skate dance for example. A bunch of us meet once a week and have super fun.

    • @DannyPodcast
      @DannyPodcast Před rokem

Haha I saw the news picture on the site!! The former prime minister Magdalena Andersson! Many Swedes call her "Arga Andersson" and that meens Angry Andersson, becous she has a really really short temperament in debates and tv interviews etc! Maybe that will help you get little included if you throw it out as a joke or something in some situations here in Sweden!
I like your videos btw, you've got a great peronality! :) Good Luck to you // Mikael Hammarström

I think you are on your way to learning Swedish, give it another year and it will flow well. What is the language at your job? Only English or mixed with Swedish? Just because you are forced to speak, read Swedish at work usually makes the difficulties go away more and more. I know from my own experience that speaking Swedish at work makes the Swedish language better. I have had some staff, in my previous profession (Retired now, yes I know I am old😁😁), from Syria with very poor Swedish skills. But after about 10 months, the Swedish was ok.
I hope you will feel more and more included in Sweden.

It is hard making friends as a Swede as well... Swedes are reserved and introverted and often socialize in smaller circles/cliques, which as a newcomer may be difficult to get included into.
The best option is probably either joining interest groups, where the focus is on social activities.
    There are some on Facebook.
Some work places also have social groups, such as book circles or innebandy Teams, that one can join.

I’ll write in Swedish now so you can practice your reading comprehension if you want or translate it. I will do my best to write correct Swedish and not using slangs or that sort of things.

For the most part I do like your videos that you post, but in this case it feels like the language part was more of an excuse for the sponsor ad... Many people usually say they feel included in Sweden because of the fact that most Swede's are very good at English.
However, not speaking the native language will obviously affect how included you feel, but that will most likely be regardless of what country you move to (or even more so if you move to a country where people are not as good in English).

Yeah.. learning swedish so you understand what they say to you is a good thing! Or to read the signs!
In anyway.. the pro is that 99% of swedes, that is raised and born in sweden understand English.
The con is that a lot of us switch to english if we hear your american accent.. or if you strugle to find the right swedish word!
Its easy.. use swenglish as much as you can, "put in some english words in a swedish sentens" if you strugle to find the right swedish one!
On the other case.. you is living in Skåne.. so you have to learn a bit of Skånska to.. there french "R", and a few old danish words!
In any case, the easyest language to learn for a english speaker is Norweigan and Swedish.. becuse its mostly the same language!

Midsommar is a celebration of the summer solstice and fertility in the old days. Midsommarstången is suspected to has been a phallos symbol until the church made it into a cross. The rings might be a step away from religion. A theory that might be true?

Well… this video kinda feels like it’s mostly supporting your sponsor. Google/bing/Microsoft translate is a thing if you want to read stuff or signs and about 90% of the population speaks English already.
Sure. Swedes are a bit less open to talk to strangers and value personal space but there are Americans that don’t fit the stereotype as well as there are more outgoing Swedes. Getting a job sure helps with your social life though. 👍🏼. You would be less fortunate if your native language was anything else than English.
