I am almost your same build, but not as buff. A TLR-7a doesn't cost much space or weight, it makes little to no difference to me so I opt to have the option on my EDC even without grip switch. But if I ever need a new holster I'll evaluate going without, see if it makes any notable difference.
My nightstand blaster is a a nearly identical layout, with an Omega9K and XV400H (IR laser version...). It also serves as my warbelt pistol, thus the IR capability. I cannot seem to find that nifty switch for my make/model, though.
I always carry a flashlight, it comes in handy surprisingly often.
Fun fact: The XV400H has the exact same head as the Scout M640V. All the output specs are identical. I believe there are other X300/400 equivalents to Scout M640 series as well. If one is really cramped for space on an SMG or might like to run the light on bottom to be ambi, an X300/400 is a viable alternative to a scout. This is what I am moving towards but with IR laser and illuminator.

Finally, someone who admits they don't always have a flashlight. I don't remember the last time I was somewhere without ambient light. I'm retired and boring.

I normally have a light on my pistol. I also have a small handheld light. To be fair though I am at work about 3 to 4 hour before daylight depending on the time of year.

You ain't a normal dude!, I was a normal dude and weighed 400 pounds, bad knees, all kinds of metabolic problems. Through you, and the knowledge you pass, I'm getting your normality. Thanks, keep it up.

if you use a hand held light , it's maybe a good idea to attach a lanyard to it...(e.g. opening a doorknob with gun and light in hands)

It is funny how people choose rather to be tacticool then practical. I guess one has to decide before even entering the realm of gunfighting if he wants to play games pretending to be delta operator or he wants to develop real world fighting skills. Not a bad thing about playing with guns, but one has to realize what it is he is doing. If you realize that, then suddently all decisions around gunfighting or combatives are much clearer. Just enter the realm of real world and confront your ideas with real world environment.
I remember having exactly the same conversation with you about flashlights 15 years ago (wow, how the time flies) in Slovakia. It is funny that in some cases you break through the traditional thinking of gun industry with your ideas (like the RDS on pistol) and in some cases you probably won't. Pistol mounted flashlights would be probably hard nut to crack. They are too sexy on pistols, too much marketing money in it, too many instructors paid by surefire.
Anyway, I like about you that you never lost the touch with reality and the whole EDC in your case looks like something everyone with normal job can do. That is not always the case with other shooting instructors out there. I like your videos, keep up the good work and take care :)

Gabe's ass kissers are legion. So are his haters. Excellent post Taipan. I cannot tell you how much more $ucce$$ful you could be delivering the same factual messages but with pro communication coaching. You would make a ton here. Love ya.
